In addition to my initial message, I will add this. I also enjoy pushing my character/class to the limit of their capabilities. I have done solo character/class/restrictive runs in various games, and being able to push yourself to the limit, using every corner of your set of tools is part of the whole experience. You truly learn to play your character/class through these experiences.
Because I love triage healing and I feel this is the only game it hasn't failed in yet. I've played the whole :spam aoe until you top the hps: crap as well. I don't really see the difference between that and the competitiveness associated with Dps in this game. Except that racing for hps is pretty meaningless whereas contributing Dps is very meaningful.
I love knowing exactly how much healing needs to be done following an aoe and doing that and have people barely live they squeak in discord and my astrologian just says "Calculated™". It is severely cool.
I was really resistant to healer Dps at first because I actually didn't believe healers had enough time to substantially contribute to damage in a meaningful way to the point where it would affect the fight. But now with fflogs and seeing how much healers really can do I've been slowly crawling up in my own rankings and just trying to get better Andrew better each tier. Even though I still suck it's fun to me to try and improve each week. It's like a mini game.
Because if i didn't, it would make the already boring experts even MORE boring.
Cause i only have equilibrium and bloodbath and inner beast so my axe is craving for more.
When i play a healer-job it's kinda the same.
I like the sounds and animations of Holy and Assize. It's really that simple.
I enjoy it because it really DOES make a difference when trying to clear a dungeon. I've noticed that I can outpace some of my DPS partners depending on the situation. I've found I really love doing so with WHM the most out of the Healer crowd--Holy is awesome to smack mobs with in CS. I like AST as well, but WHM just seems to fit my play style the best.
Throw out Medica 2 (and sometimes Regen on Tank if the mob is bigger) so that the party is covered, CS and go to town. ;D
That's one of my biggest things when I'm playing AST, it's so easy for AST to regen an entire party, throw up Bole if it's available, and literally ignore the tank/party for the majority of a fight (until the regen has to pop again) and Lightspeed makes it so easy to hop back into healing mode and save a tank last second...not that I ever...call it close when I'm healing >w>''
Why wouldn't I love to DPS as a Healer? I've played many a game where being a Healer meant you can barely defend yourself other than spamming heals. Here I can watch mobs explode in a shower of rock-shards, satisfyingly mass-stun that 40mob pack the tank pulled, spew an AoE DoT onto all of them, then do a little dance while assize shreds everything in sight. If that isn't enough, laugh at the fact my abilities are hitting harder than some of the DPS own kit... A DPS healer has a much more relaxing time in levelling/open content compared to some DPS (who probably have to be wary of their health after a couple of fights, depending on gear), helps dungeons go hella quick, and never, ever, has a shortage of things to do.
because i dont want to get booted =P
I don't. I just do it because current content allows it. I'm hoping SE fixes this in Stormblood.
I love being active in the fight. I love having to be reactionary rather than follow a boring, cookie-cutter rotation that is the same as everyone uses. I feel these things are being lost in the quest for high DPS numbers and just making us a green DPS rather than allowing us to maintain our uniqueness as healers. I want to be active, but I chose a support role on purpose. I want to be kept busy healing, cleansing, and even Twelve forbid, utilizing crowd control tactics.
Better than sitting there doing nothing when you don't need to be healing
I like dpsing between heals, because it gets so boring just standing there. I feel lazy or like I'm not pulling my weight if I don't (though I sometimes use downtime to text people or to get bites of food in >w>). I've also noticed that a big difference in my performance between when I didn't stance dance and when I started doing it. I've gotten a lot faster with my reaction time, and I feel like I'm a better healer now because of it.
