Same. I've been around since about a month before HW was released and I've never seen anything quite like this. Again, I'm wondering if the Aether Data Center is having trouble handling the new Cross World Party Finder, seeing as we do have the two busiest servers.
I think it was something very similar to what happened tonight, but I remember it happening for like 3 days at least. You had to log on incredibly early in the morning, or you would be in a huge queue for a very long time. Though, I was on Balmung at the time, so maybe Gilga wasn't as bad.
Yea I agree there, I've been playing this for a few years now and I have noticed this happens every time there is a new patch and when hw was released. The 'temp players' are not solely to blamed mind you but they do contribute a large portion to the issue, there is also bugs after the patches that add into the whole issue. These crashes are only going to get worse in my opinion as time goes by and as more new players begin playing the game.
My thoughts were along similar lines. I suspect it has to do with the queuing mechanism needed to handle players return to their server that is messed up. If it is running slow or missing signal I could see where it could result in a large number of player drops.
Influx of players due to new content isn't exactly the problem. Heavensward release did have an influx of players and did put you into login queues, but you would eventually get in.
The issue today and yesterday is while there's a smaller influx than with Heavensward, the instancing server keeps breaking.
So now you have queues and they aren't going anywhere or if they do go anywhere, they end up resetting. You can't instance for a duty, to change areas, and to log in.
Yeah I was there when heavens ward launched. I didn't notice any problems either. I remember when heavens ward launched vividly because of the 20 or so fresh dark knights I saw on the beach at Costa del sol.

That and tank roulette bonus wasn't available for a few days because everyone wanted to try dark knight.
The only reason why Heavensward didn't have much problems is due to the brackets that were in place. Remember them? :P There was 3 layers of brackets. To help ease congestion. And didn't put huge amounts of stress on the servers. I remember this because I couldn't see the person that I was married to at the time, til I used my Eternity Ring to get to his bracket.
Square Enix can simply fix this problem by doing two things (maybe!). 1) Increase data capacity. Or 2) Enforce those brackets again til they fix every single problem that is incurring.
Both seems to be the best bet to do. There's a lot of data that is stressing servers needlessly. SE can fix everything within 1 patch or the day after patch by having another maintenance. 1-2 days is acceptable. But all these problems are needless.
When hw launched I randomly got dc'd especially when trying to change areas or things would freeze during a cut scene and I would have to re-start my whole console to get it to work again. There were numerous problems like what we're experiencing now when he had launched including getting a in que message while trying to log in saying the world was full. The issues we're experiencing now is in part to the temp players coming back to the game and the new cross world party finder probably among other bugs that come with any new content.
If the problems really are because of new players or players returning, I actually am a little happy if that's the case.
I love this game, and I think it deserves more recognition.
And although I haven't used party finder much (maybe just 2 or 3 times) it's really cool to see pages of people looking for groups on party finder. I may use it more now.
All in all, I'm upset but if it means the games doing well and if it's the price we pay for improvements like cross realm party finder, I'm not THAT mad.
