Can someone please explain grand companies ? Like for the rankings and quests you do. Really whats the point of it. What u do for it and rewards i guess. Thanks guus
Most of the ranks are gained from buying promotions with GC seals. A couple of the ranks require filling out the grand company hunting log (ie, monster hit list) and some of those monsters only dwell in optional dungeons. It might change by which GC you pick. For Maelstrom, I had to visit Sunken Temple of Qarn and Aurum Vale. The last rank requires building a squad and taking on a lv 40 mission. The Grand Company squad mechanic will be introduced to you when you reach the requisite rank.
The point is that higher ranks give you access to more things you can buy with GC seals. The gear is useful while you're leveling in the 20-40 range I've found, but isn't going to cut it at lv 50 for sure. There are some furniture and vanity items you can buy. can buy retainer ventures. The big thing is materials you can buy. Those are used for a lot of things. You can buy them with seals and sell them in the market for a good price. There is a cheap item to reset your attribute points and an expensive one that resets chocobo companion's skill selections.
For storyline purposes, youre asked to join a company. They give you a few things(access to your first mount for instance), and thats it. You dont have to put any more effort into it if you dont want to. However, they do offer certain things to higher ranked company members. As Rinari mentioned, they sell some gear that can be useful at the mid levels. They sell some crafting and quest materials that can be tough to obtain otherwise. They can provide ventures to keep your retainers busy. And one of the requirements to buy a house is having a certain rank in one of the companies(you also have to be high enough level, and find one for sale - easier said then done on many servers). If you do decide to rank up, youll get most of them just through buying the next rank. A couple also require clearing the hunting log(which provides extra seals anyway), or clearing specific dungeons. If you ask the quartermaster of the company you joined, theyll tell you what the next rank requires.

For grand company seals what are all the ways to earn them. Ive seen supply and provision but u get such little seals from it. Whats the best way to earn them ?
-As far as supply/provision missions are concerned, the amount of seals you get is based on the level of the item you turn in (and thus, based on the level of your crafter/gatherer classes).
-FATEs all give seals, based on the medal (gold, silver or bronze) and the FATE level. Gold is typically easy to obtain. Note that if a FATE fails, you still get company seal and experience rewards, so long as the progression remained intact. (If it was a boss FATE and its health went back to full after it lost aggro on all players, progression is reset.)
-Guildhests and the guildhest roulette.
-Grand company levequests.
-Grand company hunting log. (This is very limited.)

I don't recall exactly how to unlock guildhests exactly, but I *think* it was by undertaking a levequest from your starting city-state, which leads you to a nearby town in a field map (Bentbranch Meadows in Central Shroud if you're from Gridania, Horizon in Western Thanalan if you're from Ul'dah, not a clue about Limsa Lominsa), which then has an NPC in there that unlocks guildhests. They are sort of a mini duty of sorts, far shorter than a dungeon, lasting between something like 30 seconds for the shortest ones, to maybe five minutes for the longest. In retrospect, I don't think guildhests give company seals. I believe that only the guildhest roulette does. The guildhest roulette is unlocked after completing either the first, or the first two guildhests, I forget exactly.

Guys between NIN and DRG what would yall choose im so unsure. Theyre both so cool and their dmg and glamour potential is so good and ive seen amazing dmg output from both but im not sure who i wanna continue with for the msq and max out in general
Honestly, the class balance is fairly good in this game. While there are preferences for groups, that really doesn't factor in unless you're doing endgame raiding, and even then no class is straight up unusable. Plus with new content with new mechanics every patch, and the occasional class adjustment, which one's better may very likely change by the time you hit 60. So, with that in mind... why not both? There's nothing stopping you from taking every class to 60. The only real restriction is that the very top end equipment (latest tomestone, latest 24-man raid, and both normal and savage versions of the latest raid) have weekly restrictions on the loot you can acquire, so gearing up multiple jobs can be difficult. That said, second-best gear has no such restrictions, and is what you would be using to enter endgame in the first place to GET the high end gear. Plus by the time you hit 60 with both you may have a better idea of which one you prefer.
And i didnt see anyone answer your other question, so ill hop back in. When you open your hunting log(its in the logs menu on screen - H key is the default if you play on PC), it has several entries you can look at. You have individual lists for each class, and underneath those icons should be one for the grand company you joined. Click that, and youll see who they want eliminated. The class based hunting log gives bonus exp for completion, the grand company one pays in seals rather then exp - so plan accordingly.
Figure out if you like lances+mail or knives+leather aesthetic better and let that determine DRG vs NIN choice. As Urthdigger mentioned, Class balance is pretty good. I personally like the lance+mail look better. I've dabbled in lancer a bit, and it seems fun. It will be the first DPS job I level when I get around to it. You aren't locked in, so you can change your mind and level any job later with a bit of effort. I've got warrior at 59 and paladin at 51. I'm raising both so I can jump between tank options at will. Dragoon, scholar, and dark knight are on my 'to do later' list, heheh. It's a big game.
Tbh i love the NIN leather and dagger aesthetic way more ive seen some amazing dagger glamours. But theres some very nice drgs as well. And its just so confusing. But i think i like nin more and ima go with it and just come back for drg. Im just a lil worried for the dmg output as i keep hearing drg is way stronger.
Nothing is way stronger. As mentioned before, they're all pretty well balanced. At the moment Dragoon seems to have a slight advantage, but it's very minor, and (as with all such differences) completely overwhelmed by how skillfully or poorly each is played. That makes a far bigger difference in damage output.
Also, what advantage Dragoon does have is there at the moment, during this patch. Nobody knows yet which is going to be stronger next patch. They get slight balance adjustments over time, and simply the design of each patch's latest endgame content will change which jobs are most in demand by the cutting edge groups trying to lead in the hardest content. (Which are the only groups that even care about such trivial differences.)
If you're talking about which will give you the best chance of being recruited into a good static, that will depend more on what other jobs they already have. Between the two you mentioned, a group that already has a Dragoon would likely prefer you as a Ninja, while one that already has a Ninja would likely prefer you as a Dragoon. (Even for this, it's minor between two melee DPS, but it does broaden the availability of support skills to have everyone on a different job.)
Let's not forget that FFXIV's real end-game is glamour. You'll want to spend most of your time in the job that has your favorite outfits available. 5% more theoretical DPS isn't going to give as much satisfaction as wearing your favorite glamours!
Agreed guys. The main three classes i want for end game are MCH DRG and NIN. So im prob gonna continue with NIN then come back for DRG and then finish MCH off eventually.
My subscription is ending soon so i just wanted to plan out a future standard / goal I can work for when I come back and im a little busy rn and i dont want to forget everything when i come back.
At level 50 where should I be in the game. Like at what armor and weapon and etc. Cause I see people talking about raiding gathering crafting etc and Im a little overwhelmed with the sheer number of things you can do and have to focus on to really build a good character. Gil also seems to be a really big problem aswell.
Can someone like give me a criteria or basis or whatever to outline where I should have progressed to by 50? Thanks
There is a ton of things you CAN do at level 50. Very few of them are needed. Once you advance into the Heavensward areas most of the old level 50 stuff becomes somewhat obsolete anyway.
First of all do your level 50 job quest. That (together with the level 45 job quest) will give you some decent armour for starters.
Then follow the MSQ. There is a lot of it to do at level 50, and it will give you all the gear you need as you progress through it.
That is all you really NEED to worry about - everything else is optional.
I second MistakeNot's suggestion. Focus on main quests (MSQ) at 50 until you get to Ishgard. It's a long slog through the lv 50 MSQ, but you need to do it to unlock he lv 51+ content. The main quest will gear you up through quest rewards and forcing you into dungeons/trials that give poetics tomes you can use to buy gear.
Of course, don't burn out. MSQ can be tiring and it's very long. You can do hunts for allied seals (buys some nice 110 accessories). You do PotD and secure a padjila (ilvl 235) or even kinna (ilvl 255) weapon. You can work on crafter and gatherer classes. You can work up grand company ranks and build a squad to send on missions. You can run some extra dungeons for fun and end up with more poetics tomes than you know what to do with. I did all that and had fun with it.
Oh, if you do end up nearly capping on poetics... buy some unidentified craft materials (300 each). They are used (10 each I think) for the anima weapon at 60 in the first stage. That stage can be skipped with if you did the lv 50 relic weapon entirely (I think). There is no reason to do that lv 50 version though. It will be much quicker and easier to wait to 60 for anima chain. Just make sure you buy something useful with poetics so you don't hit 2k cap. I'm still hazy on the whole relic/anima weapon thing, since I haven't done it yet. Maybe a more experienced player can chime in.
Can you/somone explain anima and relic weapons, poetic tomes and the grand company missions thing a little more in depth. Also is the only benefit from leveling gathering classes is the gil u can get.

'Relic' weapon is a quest weapon at lv 50. You go through a series of quests requiring grinding out various aspects of the game to upgrade the weapon between stages. 'Anima' is the same thing, but at lv 60 with a better weapon. You can ignore relic and just work on anima when you get to 60. The anima weapon ends at ilvl 270, making it tied for second best weapon in the game ilvl-wise (there is a 275 that's higher). I haven't done any of that yet, so I can't speak from experience.
Poetic tomes are a form of currency you get from completing lv 50 dungeons/trials/potd (potd = palace of the dead). Poetics buy ilvl 120 gear. Lore and Scripture tomes are from lv 60 content and potd. For potd, you must be lv 50 (outside of potd) to start getting poetics, and lv 60 to start getting lore and scripture. Lore buys ilvl 230 gear and scripture buys ilvl 260 gear. The gear you buy can be upgraded later.
Gathering classes get many of the materials that crafting classes need to craft things. You can sell that for gil or use it in your crafting classes. Some of the equipment crafters make is great stuff, but you also have to consider glamours and furniture for housing. While that stuff may not be objectively useful, it is highly desired and fun! Also, gathering classes can find treasure maps in lv40+ nodes, but I don't know how useful those are yet... almost to 40 on my miner though, so I'll get to try it soon.
Relic weapons: There's two kinds: Zodiac weapons are the level 50 ones, and Anima weapons are the level 60 ones. Rinari did a decent job explaining them, but to go a little more in depth, they require a questline to create, and are notorious for the amount of grinding required. While older steps have been reduced in difficulty since being introduced, the fact remains that they take far more work to create than a weapon of similar power. The main advantages of a relic weapon are prestige (It's a sign of dedication), and that it's the only way to get an "endgame" weapon without stepping into raiding or extreme mode primals, albeit at the cost of taking far more time. You also get to choose the stats on the relic, which is good for those who aim for specific substats. So, all things considered, I wouldn't go for either of the current relics currently unless you want to just do them for glamour/prestige, but I would recommend going after whatever relic they add for 4.0.
Poetics tomestones: As Rinari mentioned, these are used to obtain ilvl 120 gear. However, they can ALSO be used to obtain upgrade materials to make that gear ilvl 130 (and in fact a set of ilvl 130 gear will make you start off Heavensward in prime condition, you won't need any gear upgrades until well into it). Furthermore, there are an assortment of other materials you can purchase with them, such as crafting materials or items used in relic quests. Lore and Scripture tomestones are the current two endgame tomestones, allowing you to purchase equipment for level 60 characters, with Scriptures being the highest level and lore being second best. Whenever the item level cap raises with a new cap, they introduce a new tomestone for the new item level, the previous best tomestone gets downgraded to second best, and the previous second-best tomestone gets removed from the game and the items previously purchased with it become acquirable through other means such as grand company seals or centurio seals. In any case, the highest level tomestone is only used to acquire gear, and has a weekly limit of 450 able to be earned, which limits how fast you can acquire the best gear. The second-best tomestone has no such cap, allowing you to get the second-best tomestone set as fast as you please. The second-best tomestone, like poetics, are also used to acquire a number of miscellaneous items.
Grand Company missions are fairly simple. Basically, you want to train your squad three times a day and send them out for missions once a day to level them up. Every so often there will be a difficult mission you need to do to rank up. The main advantages for these missions are the first lieutenant upgrade which unlocks more items you can buy for GC seals and raises your cap, the scrolls from the highest tier of missions that essentially function like personal FC buffs, and the various goods you can obtain from Squadron Chemistry such as materia or crafter/gatherer scrips.
Gathering classes can indeed be boiled down as just there for the gil you can get, though for plenty of people like me, there's satisfaction in having gear you created completely from scratch. I do wish there were untradeable items one could gather, such that you can't just replicate having a gatherer by having a lot of gil... but I know whenever I suggest untradeable items for crafters/gatherers, I get a lot of pushback from people who feel the main purpose of gathering/making items is to sell them. Kind of a catch-22 really...
