When inspecting actually good-looking male Au Ra:

I usually try to hide in a crowd of people when trying to inspect others, so it will be less obvious, or um... duck behind some piece of the landscape... like a stalker... I feel super embarrassed when I get caught and a bit awkward when I see other people inspecting me, although if someone is blatantly staring, running around them in circles to make their head do gymnastics is pretty entertaining. XD
I just click on them and look at them. I'm completely shameless about it.
I've only gotten slapped or reacted to a few times.
I use to care now I just look. It is, after all, a game option not something I came up with. Ultimately the person behind the character has looked at others at some point.
Not really, if I see something I like I'll check it out. Besides may seem awkward but if they do catch you just opens up the chance to say hello and meet someone. If I catch people looking at me I just /bow to them.
I am 100% Shameless. There's one particular catboy on Ultros who has probably long since realized I check him out on the regular. It's whatever though, I'm #unbothered.
spam "fondling" emotes the whole time im inspecting. I like to be thorough :)
What does that have to do with social anxiety? :/
We all know that in real life it's rude to stare and often uncomfortable if someone checks you out way too obviously. This is just a game, but we are all aware that the other players are real people, and that as well as the fairly realistic movements of our characters (eyes fixating; head turning) makes it feel like a real social situation where the rl rules apply, even if there is a valid reason for the function ingame (ilvl, glamour, other leveled classes, etc.).
Unrelated:
What's worst for me is when it LOOKS like someone else is staring and I target them for emoting, only to realize they are looking at someone else behind me/nothing at all xD Makes me feel so full of myself for assuming they were looking at me^^°
I look shamelessly. No point in hiding it lol. If I'm looking it's because I like your glamour/character's look. If especially pleasing to the eye I'll 360 around you lmao.
In dungeons or trials (pf or df) I'll inspect everyone I don't know to get an idea what kind of run we have, or if I have to slow down (I mostly tank stuff, so if I see someone is undergeared I know I have to take it a little slower. Sometimes)
In the overworld...I try not to stare (click on them, examine, quickly target something else or untarget) since it is a bit rude to,especially if I don't know the guy I'm examining. Certain people I will sometimes just target and somewhat afk just to get a reaction :P
I'm usually passing through places, so I'll run by and when I'm at a convenient/ inconspicuous angle, I'll have a peek. If it's a dungeon or trial, I don't bother being discreet - most people seem to outright check out the group they're with anyway. Though if I'm looking at you for a while, it probably means I like your glamouror you're really undergeared and I'm crying
I don't mind people checking my character out for whatever reason, but I lol at how some players don't even try to hide it. I get a lot of people running straight up to me and just staring, though the most common one is when they stand right behind me with their back to my character (but I see their head turn.) I'm guessing it's a camera thing.
He's like, "I know you noticed me senpai... I know you did OwO"
But yeah, when I'm inspecting someone I usually run far far away before I click on the person.
There are times when my target was looking at me as well and it gets a little awkward.
And times when I catch someone inspecting me, I blow a kiss at them and they go /blush. Love these moments, so cute!
In FFXI, when you got inspected you would receive a "{Your name here} has just examined you." In the form of what resembled an emote. For people who did not use voice chat and conversed primarily in text form would get overwhelmed by the chat clutter of shouts, linkshells, tells, and examine messages.
Examine messages obviously being the least useful was annoying. Especially if you get examined multiple times by one person or in quick succession from multiple people.
I love checking people's glamour, and I'm openly to get looked by people around me lol
It amuses me that some people have a hangup over this. It would never occur to me to be ashamed of inspecting someone else's character, or of being inspected myself. Most, if not all, seem to pick their names and gear for attention, so why would they pretend to be shy about getting inspected?
An inspection notification would be annoying, but only because I hate emote spam (turned off my own, right along with background music, shortly after I started playing).
I'm just curious but to the lot of you when you go through this much effort to inspect others gear is it to just look what they have on or is it to actually go ahead and copy their glamour?
I hate haaaaate when people inspect my gear at the beginning of the dungeon or raid, like when you are in the middle of teleporting into a raid just know a miqote is already inspecting your glamour before you even finish making it into the raid
I've had players deliberately lock onto me, and then start running in circles around me, but I assume said person is just being a goon and not even examining me.
I definitely try to be discrete when examining others. Run-bys are typically how I do it. However, if there is a character that I admire the way they look, I don't even examine them. I go right up to them and start letting the camera fly.
When I notice someone examining me, I usually just /smile. If emote exchanges commence, then I will examine them as well usually followed by a /salute
