If leveling a job to 50/60 is your greatest achievement or accomplishment in this game, then I don't know what to tell you.

I'm not saying I'm in favor of these leveling and story skipping potions, but they're hardly the Armageddon people are making them out to be.

I remember making a similar post when I quit FFXI after 6 years of time put in. The ToAU expansion in that game took away everything I loved about Red Mage, and it became nothing more than a haste/refresh bot despite all its power. I was DONE, so I know how you feel.

Now, I am not totally against it. I understand that in order to stay marketable and competitive, the game has to conform to today's standards, and I honestly feel SE is putting a lot of thought into their final decisions. But here is a fear of mine, and hear me out:

Aside from this game, I also play Destiny on PS4 with four other mates. They have no interest in playing FFXIV because I've told them about what they have to go through to catch up to me, and they are more the first-person shooter type anyway. However, say I told them about these potions, and they became interested. They could just hop right in with me into Qarn, Aurum Vale, Snowcloak, Keepers... Or how about trials such as Ramuh and Shiva. Easy-peasy to us, right? How do you think YOU would do in these dungeons/fights two or three days into the game? How about even a few hours?

There has to be some kind of requisite prior to using the potion(s). Shit man, at least put these people through Sastasha/Tam Tara/Copper Bell and a trial before grouping with 50's.

Only has Bard capped at 60, no wonder he's bored of the game...

I understand where your coming from. I hardly play anymore. I was fine with Yoshida San making this game like a Theme Park. But for me the lack of life and excitement out side the city walls. Beside doing hunts FATES and quest/Beast tribe quest and farming/gathering is boaring as hell. I'm not a fan of Durty Finder at all. I want more areas to explore in the outside world but that's never gonna happen really. A few open dungeons would be amazing. I only play once a new patch comes out.

I'm not into grinding crappy tones just to get gear that will be useless later on. I'm not that fussed as you are when it comes to Jump Potions. It's not that hard to just redo old dungeons to improve your ability at playing ur job. But I'm holding out till Stormblood to make my final decision on quitting for good or staying. The fact that they killed my favourite Job Summoner makes me worried about Red Mage, Blue Mage, Dancer and Beast Master when these Jobs come along.

Well I actually don't think this will help new players unless SE goes one step further. Now if they are giving the potions away with base version/collection edition of the game then yes it will help.

As it currently stands price is high enough to stop anyone paying for it straight away, yet it is still low enough for LONG TERM players who want to level an alt and don't want to do the crappy 50 grind on MSQ. Don't get me wrong I loved the story and watched it all and have also watched it again while my son plays it. Now do I want to watch it a third time NO!

Also what I find funny is you said that the game wont change/sway away from current format with an expansion. Hmmm yet you said you played FFXI for 11 years? Did you forget about Abyssea and Seekers of Adoulin? Both completely changed the game format and has continued to change well past the last expansion.

Just admit this is your actual reason for leaving. Yes, jump potions are Vogue right now, but we all know you simply have no faith in Stormblood differentiating from the standard affair. Which is fine, by the way. Saying that wouldn't make you come across so melodramatic though.

Quitting because of Jump potions though. That isn't a reason that I would dismiss this game, if you have a problem with Jump potions why didn't the OP leave when the Mog Station was selling stuff? XD

So I agree to an extent that it's a very emotional and maybe over-the-top post, but the silent majority of players leaving don't seem to get any kind of message across. These threads might actually communicate some pointers of great value.

Getting a bit off topic here, but they said they would enjoy seeing people idle. Easy enough to see people idle while passing through an area.

That aside, this all feels like an over reaction if it really is just about the jump potions. If its about Storm Blood being bad, it feels a little premature to pass judgment.

From my point, this is not the problem, the fun disappears. Endless routine with roulette is the real matter. The question is not if it is difficult or easy, there's no fun, no surprises. I'm sadly obliged to see there not as many players as it used to be when an event started, especially when there are (school) holidays (at least in France, I don't know for other countries).

This bit is what irks me most about players whining about the skip potions - the idea that other players have to "earn" their place at endgame the same way that we did. It implies that leveling a character or progressing through the main scenario is "work" or "a challenge" - and NEITHER of those things is true at all. Leveling a job is laughably easy. Main Scenario is a story to be enjoyed, not a mountain to conquer. We here in the current endgame didn't get here through blood, sweat, and tears - we earned our place here by casually enjoying something that is fun to do.

Using a level/story skip potion isn't "paying to win", by any means. If anything, it's "paying to lose", since you miss out on a great gaping chunk of the product you paid for.

Additionally, even if one were to argue that leveling/story IS a rite of passage that everyone should have to fulfill - the fact is, that NOBODY is going to go through the same experience that older players went through. Every low level instance is now populated mostly by experienced players at or exceeding the level cap for that dungeon. Gone are the days when you'd have parties composed entirely of newbies in crappy gear, struggling through Cutter's Cry and wiping to Titan Normal because that healer just can't seem to get out of the way of Landslide. New players doing old instances are not facing any kind of challenge - except, possibly, the challenge of waiting in queue long enough for the instance to fill.

Something needed to be done. Even just a single expansion in, the gates put in place by the Main Scenario were oppressive, to say the least, and it was only going to get worse with each additional expansion. I don't like the solution they chose, but in the end, new players ARE more important for this game than the devoted core are, because new players are necessary to bolster the devoted core. This game was rapidly reaching a point where new players would be entirely alienated.

I would have preferred another solution, that expansions going forward be built in such a way that new players could feel meaningfully included without reaching the end of MSQ first. Level and story skips strike me as a hamfisted Band-Aid approach. But they are by no means pay-to-win, because no one is winning anything by using them.

You've got to realize too, Yoshi and team were, from a development standpoint, handed a steaming pile of goobue dung that was 1.0. It was a disaster and you can't completely remake an MMO in just a year or two. So they had to build upon that structure. They could have easily thrown their hands in the air and said "hell with this" and watch the final fantasy brand go down in flames like Dalamud - but they didn't.

Because you went through the original story, you got to experience something these new players (or those who use a potion) won't experience like you did. And that's okay. Because it's a different time, a different scenario and different play styles. Its like people that grew up in the 70s and 80s talk about how different the world was back then compared to kids growing up now. Today's kids would marvel at the clunky and expensive "technology" of yesteryear, but I wouldn't want to inflict it on them because that's not how things work today.

The funny thing is that for years people have yelled at newbies to skip cutscenes, but now we're raging that people will be able to skip the entirety of the MSQ...

I dont like the idea but I do not play the game for what others do or have or can get I play it for my enjoyment. This is just like the people that win the lottery with just one quick pick, I say good for them who cares if that is how they get in the game? More people= faster PF hopefully more population more things to do. Bye to you but really SE doesn't care how many leave they are hoping to replace them 10X over

I believe it is safe to say that this is something that happens with all games. Sooner or later, the more you grind in a game the quicker you burnout. Many people seem to play this game as a chore, they all sheepishly follow the apparent optimal path and method for each dungeon, mechanically grinding away at the game, because they've done it so often, it's almost automatic. People team up with others, they don't talk, not even a hello often times, and then mechanically blow through the content. Only if someone deviates from that path is there communication.

The game is an RPG, so it has RPG content, that means dungeons, raids, trials, and a boatload of side content. People complain that it's a formula. No, it's an RPG, this is what RPGs do.

You say the fun disappears and endless routine with roulette is the problem. Break the routine, break the grind, find fun in something else, play another game on the side. Endless routine will kill any game, so don't play that way. I graze on the content, sometimes i run a roulette or two, sometimes FATE, sometimes hunts, sometimes the saucer, or dailies, or crafting or gathering, or making stuff for my friends, or what ever I run into in the game. I had friends who played the game and literally used a list of things to do each day (same things) and they would speed run and grind to farm gear. They burned out, got bored and left. I didn't do that, I'm still here and still loving the game. I think there is a lesson there.

Peopled who think jump potions are P2W have no idea what P2W actually means. Now if they got full Alex gear for 70 bucks, that would be different. But no, all they get to do is skip the tediously designed content of 2.0 and get into the vastly improved 3.0 and beyond. I had to do this climb myself (started a new non legacy character myself) and I can say that it's a pretty huge downer, and I've already done all of this stuff. To anyone who starts fresh and wants to join their friends, they can't until they slog through the MSQ. Jump Potions will allow people to reach the content in the game that actually matters, while providing revenue for Square which will allow them to further develop the game and increase on that very content. For every person who leaves without properly understanding this, I bet 5 or 10 more people will be willing to stay if they can actually play with their friends in the content that's currently relevant.

Summoner is a complete wannabe warlock from WOW they just stuck the name Summoner on it hoping people wouldn't notice. I will make my final verdict on SMN once the new egi glamour comes out. But let's be honest that's not gonna improve SMN as a pet class since it's no longer that it's a dot class.

But you won't see them since you might not even be on the same server as them so ur comment here is just silly really. But I get what you mean though all these commplants about Jump potions are just stupid. We still don't know if they will implement them like how they did it in the Chinese version of FfXIV or the Korean version or if they will change it for the western market and Japan.

Ether way just seem like people are crying and butt hurt because new players will be able to get to are level with out going through all the boaring repeatitive work that we went through. Saying that people won't know how to play there jobs is just silly. Since it's not hard to redo old dungeons or find someone who would be willing to teach you. Or just quickly redo some of the Job quest won't take that long at all even though that didn't teach me how to play my job.
