It actually works, isn't 99% cash shop, and the dungeons are actually playable. After playing pay to win Chinese and Korean mmos, XIV was something worth paying for.

Why do I play Final Fantasy XIV?
I find it relaxing, soothing even.
I've been out of the game for a long time, and recreated my character.
Playing for nearly 2 months, slowly raising my jobs.
Working on my Paladin relic, clearing old content on my own pace.
And it's fun.
It helps me get rid of stress
I enjoy just existing in Eorzea. Currently working on leveling Astrologian while also leveling all the craft and gather classes. Helping new players to learn the game is something I also greatly enjoy. I just qualified to be a Mentor yesterday and I've already started helping a particular sprout who /telled me out of the blue asking for more tips and info, and used my recently leveled crafting classes to save them gil on a new HQ bow.
I'm not on the bleeding edge of the content, but I love the experiences I've been having while going at my own pace.
Why do I play MMO ?
Because I like playing with others, it's more fun imo
Why do I play FF14 ?
Well.....no other populated MMo atm moment so.... :/
At first I joined cause my girlfriend wanted someone she actually knew personally to play with. But after a while I just got roped in by the good story, the fun combat and the overall enjoyable community. I am closing in on my second full year of playing the game and I overall cannot say I'd play any other MMO then this. It's polished, fun and has great people. (Plus my girlfriend would probably put me out on the couch if I quit...)
as I have 4-5 games dividing my attention (FF14, Destiny, Star Trek Online for PS4, Overwatch & Modded Origional Skyrim on PC) my enthrawlment to FF14 has become lower but I still play (Mostly to get my weeky caps & keep the FC house)
I do enjoy FF14/MMO's for its interactivity between ppl for social & progression as it forces u to constantly rework & improve apon u'r teamwork skills unlike Destiny, unless u'r lucky enouf to have a team of friends, which in Destiny u can walk over the corpse of u'r dead PUG & with mass-skill win without him/her, which is a concept that works best in Single-player games (granted I will give any team that can beat Destiny's Raids props cause THAT takes teamwork)
Basicly I play FF14 cause I want to, do I need any other reason?
Did I mention I like sitting in front of my monitor all day long (or while I'm playing XIV) while multitasking in my powerful computer!?...
I'm still doing PvP for the exclusive mounts and queue times take the longest so I just sit somewhere around my house waiting for the window to pop while browsing, hearing music or doing anything else in the meanwhile!...
I have over 6,000 hours of playtime but a good portion of them must be idle waiting and AFK-ing, still the best FF in history, I wish they could make the rest of FF games online MMOs, it would be really nice to revive them once more, offline FF games die sooner or later, XIV does not ... yet!...
I work full time and go to school so don't have tons of play time, I have always loved mmos but most you cannot accomplish a ton in short periods of time. This game you can always accomplish something (besides the savage raids) in a short amount of time, love the story for the most part as well really adds to the content having a worthwhile story along with it
Not to mention that, for the most part, the community has always been pretty good! I have been playing off and on since beta and the community, as a whole, has always impressed me
PvP, and I'm not joking.
Mostly I use gaming as a form of Therapy. However I play Realm because out of all the console games, MMO's etc. I've played in 30+ years this is the only one were I can always find something to do. The community for the most part is the friendliest, and least toxic of any MMO community in my opinion, and Free Companies if you're in a active one really to help make the game more enjoyable. I've made friends from hunts, or just helping a stranger who I see is struggling. Something that never seemed to happen in other MMO's. Story wise Square has done an amazing job immersing the player into the story, hitting you in the feels, and making you want more. Even the side quests, jobs, dungeons, and raids have some amazing stories. Visually this is one of the most beautiful games. Sometimes I'll just walk around a map admiring it, and the hard world the dev's put into making it feel alive.
I didn't read comments, so I might repeat someone :o
Two different questions, so two answers :p
Why XIV and not other games? (PS4! Oh and at least 3 more reasons)
main character
I need to like the character I am playing with. As beautiful as catgirls can be, I wouldn't play anymore if I hadn't my lively lala. I want to emote with her, I wouldn't with other races. Other exemple: I played with Penelo, not with Fran.
gameplay
The gameplay isn't perfect, but it is way better than most self-called "AAA" games. I want to play, not to struggle with commands or interaction. I hated Witcher 3. I am ashamed by last Tomb Raider's close combat.
Nice looking
I can walk around and just enjoy the scenery, or set up screenshots. I spent hours playing with Last of Us' photo mode.
Never-ending games vs. games that end?
Exemple: FFXII vs Last of Us (both games that end, yet...)
Both had a playable character I liked (Penelo/Ellie). Both had a very good gameplay. Both were nice looking (though at a very poor resolution for XII). They differ in one point: open world. In Last, you follow the story. In XII you can walk around and do side quests. I finished Last many times, just to play at it again and again. I finished XII's story once, just to see its ending, though I spent easily more than 300 hours on it.
If I don't like a game, I hardly finish it.
If I like a game, I finish it and try to complete anything possible.
If I really like a game, I don't want it to end.
Last of Us: movie (short, ends)
FF XII: serial (long, ends)
FF XIV: series (long,never ends)
How much of your games do you want?
I do play other games, but very few match my tastes and, well, they end.
Because I enjoy suffering.
i play final fantasy xiv because:
- it's final fantasy
- i like the art style/direction
- the community is generally good and nice
- it's one of the (if not the,) most polished mmorpg out there
- lalafells :3
I play FFXIV for a number of reasons.
1) The Community.
2) I like the Lore.
3) I like the Gameplay.
4) I like the Company and how they treat both their players and products with respect.
To dress in better fashion than i do irl
The extremist animosity between the "I just wanna have fun" casuals, the "git gud, must know every single second of every fight" elitists, and the "check out my glam while I afk-dance in Limsa" innocent bystanders. Great background music for them helps, along with popcorn irl.
Game's fun. Raiding, friends, irl sucks and the music.
Because its final fantasy, and I have been the biggest of fanboys since I fell in love on the NES with FF1. Until I die, I will knock you all down forever.
