Well you know I figured since this is a FFXIV discussion forum I could come here and ask a question about the future of FFXIV and discuss it with other fellow FFXIV players. As far as outtages being canceled, awsome!

So what about discussing what might happen to the game if Godzilla finally decides to come ashore to Tokyo?
There are realistic scenarios, and less realistic scenarios. The closure of the servers for a week or two is a concrete possibility. Months? Not likely. several months? We're skimming on science fiction and FUD.
Oh never fear, if you build it, they will come..
i probably won't come back... I don't know.
guys i don't understand the hate towards the people that say they probably won't come back if the game is down too long. i think we all understand this is a horrible scenario gong on over in japan and that this shutdown is needed in this time of disaster. i also understand that alot of people are out of school on spring break and out of work so home gaming alot. this is just a fact of life that if your first choice of something to do changes and you find something else you enjoy more comes up why would you go back. i love the potential this game has in the future, but at this point is nowhere near there. if someone else plays something else during this downtime and decides to stay there does not mean they don't care about what's going on. i was just seeing there are alot of reasons to leave a game and i doubt that not caring about what is going on in japan would be the reason people left.
Don't know, don't care. I love this game and will be back the instant the servers are up :D
The second round of power cuts is not happening as well, right now. They may happen in the future, but so far the energy situation seems better than expected.
There has been a lot of confusion in communication from the Tokyo Electric Company (there are being a lot of complaints about that in the Tokyo area). Who knows. If they had been more clear in their communication we might still be playing right now.
Not that it isn't understandable, considering that it's difficult to be 100% prepared for a situation like this.
I will probably be back, I was just doing little things in game, waiting for changes to see if it improves the game, add content and such.
Though the game being down isn't so bad, I actually picked up a book today......then I hit my little brother with it, but the second part is a completely different issue.
To be honest I could not care less if any of the people who were on the fence about the game come back. I have a wonderful dedicated linkshell of awesome people who LOVE this game and will most certainly come back the second the servers are back up. FFXIV is an amazing game and it only keeps getting better every day. I have tried other games out there, I have even went as far as to play some of those F2P games. Let me tell ya NOT one of them compares to how amazing FFXIV is and I say this with my current / past MMO experiences.
It is certainly going to be hard finding something to do now tho :( I started watching "Snapped" the show about women who go crazy and kill people..... needless to say I found a link for all their episodes. The women 90% of the time kill over money.... I hardly consider that snapping but greed instead lol.
1. While the servers could be down for more than the projected week, I doubt it's going to be months. That's getting a little carried away.
2. I've been waiting the past few months for things to improve, and will keep on waiting. In the meantime, I'll be playing World of Warcraft. WoW and I have an on-again off-again relationship.
3. While I can't forgive SE for releasing FFXIV in the state they did, I can forgive them for the current circumstances. This is beyond anyone's control. And I don't think taking down the servers necessarily means that game development has come to a halt. Even if it has, again, it's totally understandable.
I'll be back!
I have not been playing much due to many reasons at home and the game not being that fun at my level. I did play from Release too 2/15/2011 for many hours per day. I can say i play more FFXIV then i did when i first start playing FFXI. I be back for sure when they open up again. At least now this give me time to read up on my anime and many other stuff i been not doing.
about the game development has come to a halt i don't think it be a 100% halt but do see a dalay too they fix the problem and things get better. I think they still going to work on the game and still do many other stuff.
eh if they released a patch on relaunch they'd rope a bunch of people back in to see what the fuss is all about
I already took a multi-month break and came back, and I have a backlog of games to get through (Renegade playthrough of PS3 Mass Effect 2, Fable III, Dragon Age 1 replay and Dragon Age 2), and I have been playing WoW the entire time I've played FFXIV because sometimes leves aren't enough to satisfy my MMO itch. SE definitely did the right thing by doing this to their servers, although sites like Sankaku Complex, in their never-ending hatred for this game and SE, have framed this as some horrible intentionally bad decision. Everyone needs to give a bit, especially in Japan, and SE is doing maybe more than their part by doing this.
I do, however, recognize that MMO gaming is like a drug, and it works best when you don't have to take a break. I took a break from FFXI and haven't been able to get back into it because I just don't care enough about the new gear and stuff to go through the obscene amounts of grind. Here's hoping if the game is down for more than a week, the dev team has a new minor or major patch to lure back players.
In any case, the servers of two MMOs going down for a week is a minor worry compared to everything going on in Japan right now. I'm thankful that most of my Japanese and expat friends lived in Tokyo and the Kansai and were thus relatively unaffected, but I do have a couple in Iwate prefecture that I'm worried about. When I think about that, whether the servers are down a week or two just doesn't really worry me.
I don't understand why a question like this is even being asked? Of course people are going to come back. In droves? In small waves? I wouldn't know, but people are definitely going to be returning - me included.
EDIT: I apologize. I didn't mean to sound rude, but I've been seeing threads like this pop up in places... It kind of got to me. XD
I wouldn't know about XI but for ffxiv they will be, I mean if you've been playing this long still, a week "break" won't stop them from moving on forward when it comes back up.
After the servers come back up, I suspect that you'll have a higher number of players than usual logging in to check things out just because they'll be curious how the disaster and the lapse of time have affected FFXIV. Whether or not they'll actually stay is a different question all together.
The thing is, the longer the servers are down, the more people you'll have that will have invested their time and energy elsewhere. During this time, they will find other things to do and other games to play. This isn't their fault. It isn't SE's fault. It's just the way people are. Now I don't think a week will be a huge problem - you'll likely suffer some loss, but the curiosity factor may pull some people back in. But anything longer and FFXIV will probably be hit hard.
You can throw your hands up in the air and say "Well, we didn't need them, anyhow. We don't want them here.", but that's incredibly short-sighted. For a game like this to work, you need the casuals as well as the diehards. You'll need enough players to make running and improving this game financially worthwhile to SE.
It's a sad situation and I feel bad for SE.
It's a good timing for me
I temporary quit playing it a week ago and planned to comeback after the next update (hope they're working on it while the server shutdown then release it immediately when server is up)
