At least I'll have a mailbox. Oh, and content.

Good to hear some XIVPads Chatter. :o :D
My site can only reflect stats that has members. So more the merrier etc. There are a good amount of characters that likely dont exist, but out of the 8.8k that there is on atm, 7.5k i think have been updated since 1.18 so that gives us a nice perspective of activity.
But then if you compare my characters to say FFXIVPro, Pro has 380434, (shit jealous) characters added to it. (http://www.ffxivpro.com/achievements?st=380430), So that is another figure to goo off.
Another one is each character has an ID number, this used to be 7 digits long back around release but by around April characters started having 8 digits long. I dont know how these work because they are not incremental but something in the system has made all new characters have an id that is 8 digits, 7 digits would max out at 9,999,999 thats 10million characters. Which we all know there hasnt been and after trying to do a script to parse, after like 1000 numbers i'd say I got about 200 chars. So how it works, who knows. But now we have 99,999,999 as the max ID number.
One way I think is pretty accurate is:
Producer Letter "View" count
FFXIV Youtube video "View" count
If you balance out the 2 factors:
People who dont play watching the video / read the post
vs
People who play and didn't watch video / read post else where (unofficial site)
From this you can kind of "Grasp" the population.
The most recent is:
- 18,537 (English)
- 28,187 (JP)
I ignore GR/FR, you guys get like 10 hits lol.
There is also "visual" factors you can take into account
Uldah looks Busy!
Limsa/Grid is dead
Camps Taken!
No one doing anything else
In the end, if the game is doing well enough to recieve a full overhaul of an entire new game (v2) and is ran free for a whole year and now are planning subscription, I don't think SE is to worried, so neither should you =)
Hope it helps.
I have no clue what your even talking about.. the population on the 2 servers I've been on are more populated now than they ever were. As others have said, recently it's becoming more and more of an issue just having to compete for camps, and it's pretty quick (sometimes practically instant) to create parties. We definetly don't need a server merge on Mysida, but perhaps there are some dead servers out there still.. though yours is the first I've heard in awhile.
Beta testers? Really? Ah I see, so you're just one of the bitter ones...
You forget: a good UI, the ability to use right click on anything you want to interact with the world, full voice acting, solo AND group friendly content, a protagonist that isn't silent and has speech options, text speech that isn't written like Shakespearean language, quick and snappy responses to actions, more players...
That's perception. It has a steady player base, but it doesn't have a BIG player base. I consistently see lots of people all day on Saronia too, but it's a lot of the same older players, with a few new faces here and there.
Basically, there's no sugarcoating about it - Saronia is a low population server and IMO needs to be merged with a bigger server. What's keeping me from moving to a densely populated server is that I enjoy the company of my two teammates and me not wanting to have to go through the crap of re-doing EVERYTHING tedious about this game (GC chocobo, story quests, class quests, etc)
There are more people playing Final Fantasy III than XIV.
i only played wow for 2 months so i don't think that would be a problem for me(new), the bigger thing is population and content. and while u keep thinking the game will be better without me but i would of been one of the players that stayed for 5+ years like i did in ffxi. so i'd say your wishing gonna bit you in the butt when this game becomes desolate and void of real players and your only hope is 2.0 that still has a very good chance of flopping 6months later. guess it is better without, so that it gets none of my attention so double edge says you and your comments on the threads will create a 2.0 that no one will play all over again. /cheer. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U70oaQR6tKE
also for those saying there servers are high population then you must of never played another mmo at launch time or least not a good one, if you even played ffxi at launch then you know what a real population looks like. the highest pop server combined with the second highest still probably not even close.
i love seeing XIVpads but i think its far from accurate if you want a 'world' view of the servers.
Considering half the playerbase is JP, that means a whopping load of pple are missing. And i can say that, among the JP XIV strategy sites and info forums, FFXIVpads is not well known, if even at all.
The UI is no better, more responsive yes, but no better. How do you right click with a controller? Voice acting? This is something people like? I always thought it was a negative...
So in other words, SW is for illiterate, mouse onry space nerds? I'll pass thanks.
I'm not defending XIV, it sucks atm and will continue to do so until 2.0 servers. Just saying, SW is still WoW in space.
If that means I'll never have to read a post from you again? /hurray.
What the meaning behind a large population in SWTOR? That you can rest easy that you picked the "right" MMO? that you'll have an active chat box while you SOLO your way through the game? Congrats!
Ver 2.0 might not recover FFXIV, but at least we won't have to suffer any more of you, in our future.
good luck with that since i plan on playing this game off an on too since i have the time too, so you'll probably hear tons of complaining on how people like you are ruining all mmo's not just this one. no matter what mmo im on i'll always be saying the same things cause as you can see companies like turning all there mmo's into the same copy paste and i think we all have the right to show our concerns.
and the point behind a large population on a thread about server population is simple, ffxiv doesn't have it. the biggest thing about playing a mmo is joining up at launch so there are millions of people all at the same levels running a muck together. it's what really clenches the love for a mmo that keeps me there for years, how many mmo's have you played after it's been out for over a year and half there zones are empty? probably none ..least none that you stayed with.
fact the reason they building these mmo's way to easy is for that reason most likely, and why they let people powerlevel and so forth ..push you to where the .. check this out ... "population" is. i was just using swtor as a example of how a mmo should look like for the first few years at the very least. i could of used ffxi, it was packed. the dunes ..i loved the dunes ..party on every piece of sand in the zone, every zone after that the same. people all running from npc to npc's doing quests and missions. all things swtor had and ffxiv has not had since first month.
also maybe you should quit with the insults since it's obvious you have no real constructive criticism outside you being some wannabe white knight that thinks i can't have my own opinions on the matter. Your future is dim, enjoy what you get.
Seriously, even EQ UI is better than FFXIV UI, lets just be honest, FFXIV UI is horrible, the targeting is horrible, as for the voice acting being a negative... Why ? If you dont like it, you have the option of not having them :/
Also i'm not defending Swotor, but it is not a wow clone, just because it has similar graphics, i mean this game is not a FFXI clone, FFXI is a decent game, this one is just garbage :/
wait.... you're complaining of MMOs being copy paste, yet you're singing the praises of starwars, which is a blatant rip off of warcraft. Dude take off your blinders and realize what you're so excited for is basically a reskin of a game that came out almost a decade ago.
um...
Lord of the rings
Age of Conan
War Hammer
Aion
Rift
You should hop off that hype wagon you're riding. I'm not saying FFXIV is the best MMO. I'm saying that this community will be better off with out people who nay say the future of FFXIV. Newsflash for ya, FFXIV doesn't need a million subs to be successful. Nope. I'm sure SE will be operating the game at a loss for the majority of it's lifetime. But if they can launch a solid PS3 version and keep true to their vision of 2.0 this game will be just fine with it's own niche crowd. You don't need 11 million other people to tell you: "yes this is the game to play". Guess what I disagree with the 11 million people who are hooked on WoW, it's a POS game.
SWTOR is just like wow. how do i know? I PLAYED THE BETA!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you wanna discuss starwars go do it on their forums, keep that garbage out of here.
i'll discuss anything i want, where i want. long as i don't screw with the guild lines and obviously i wasn't cause see, this was a thread on server population and that was what i was talking about not how great swtor is ..a game i don't have any intention on playing long term. but like i said i will have way more fun there then on empty servers here. i didn't screw up a launch se did, so keep on galloping away at me cause i remind you that your precious game will probably crash and burn. se don't need you to come to there protection they have mods for that so why don't you stop twisting words and tossing insults where they don't belong.
Bold text and bad grammar is the first sign of frustration.
na it's just lazyness in figuring out how to do different colors, bad grammar cause i'm not an english teacher, nor do i come to the forums to test out what i learned today in class. he trolled all over me, not other way around no matter who is in the right i didn't attack him or his personality nor his lol grammars. if anything he must of been frustrated and not read half the thread and just posted from the 2 words he reads from mine, i think that a bigger sign.
Uh..why does it seem so hard for most people to stick to the topic?
How about discussing ways of finding out how many players we have instead of arguing over SWTOR's graphics being similar to WoW?
Okay, we all know the number of players in FFXIV has been increasing for a while now, especially since patch 1.18/1.19, and not just people visiting for a few hours/days and going again, but people who really are staying and playing regulary.
We also know numbers wil be falling again next month when FFXIV goes P2P again and we lose the people not willing to pay yet.
So does anyone have an idea on how we could get exact numbers?
Maybe a FFXIV site which is more well-known than FFXIVpads?
Or maybe SE could just tell us? We already know population is just in the tenthousands, so would it really hurt to tell us the current numbers?
If they're coping over FFXI's /search system like Yoshi said then population numbers will be found out soon after 1.20
I doubt SE will say anything regarding subscribers. They will keep it hidden as long as results are subpar.
We may hear something from SE if XIV reaches a milestone like 500K players or something. They'll never say "hey we got only 80K players" (or w/e exact amount it is).
a lot of my friends and server are playing skyrim right now. i'm thinking of finding something else to do too. i still play ffxiv but my interest is dwindling. i'll keep playing and i'll pay my sub cause i want special gift... but i'm still just kind of biding my time til 2.0.
What does it matter? If the released the population numbers what would you do with it? If there are say 30k subs would you bail? IF there are 200k would you stick around? Is the number that important to people? I'm full aware that when XIV goes P2P we'll see a big dip. At least the people who stay are here for the game, not a free lunch.
@Weeble I'm a fairly loyal gamer. I've been playing FFXI since NA launch still am, I've played Lotro for the first 1.5 years of it's existence, conan for 6 months, War for a year and change, Aion for 6 months, and Rift for 7 months. I've been With FFXIV since Alpha 1. I'll be paying for FFXIV once it goes subs because I want to support the dev team in their efforts. Not because I think currently FFXIV is fantastic, but because I want to see it get there.
So when you come into a thread and say a certain game has a huge population and a ton of content and you're not sticking around here because you've found a better game. I say "Good riddance, we'll be just fine, maybe better off without you. So long, farewell,Auf Wiedersehen, adieu, good bye."
Leaving aside the amazing sidetrack (funny how forums do that), It has to be at least 40k I think. Which certainly isn't good, but it's more than some other games. I'm staying when the game starts charging again, but I'm basically taking a hiatus for the month of november because basically all the AAA games this year are crammed into a 3 week period. I, being an idiot, decided to play oblivion again before skyrim, and it's already taken the better part of a week.
Anywho, I'm willing to guess any metric will be inaccurate during this heavy game release period. I'm not myself, but a lot of people are getting their Modern Warfare 3/Battlefield 3 on at the moment.
Don't kid yourself. This game is dead as heck... Maybe in a year after 2.0 hits things may improve but my god is it ever a laughing joke at the moment.
No, I want to defend my inferior incomplete MMORPG that I will be paying $13/month for while a vastly superior one is coming out on the market! Screw what you think, I'M GOING TO MAKE ASSUMPTIONS ABOUT SOMETHING I HAVEN'T PLAYED BECAUSE I AM SMARTER THAN YOU AND MOAR LITERATE THAN YOU BECAUSE PEOPLE WHO WANT TO USE A MOUSE FOR A PC GAME ARE STUPID.
Depends on what they do with the price. Square's still been pretty silent about a reduced price, and yeah, a drop in population is sure to come once it goes P2P. How big of a drop will be determined by what Square does with the P2P matter and how accessible it is to actually get Square to take your money (direct charge vs Click2Buy vs PayPal). Now that the patch notes are in place and there's healthy discussion abound (which I enjoy - these patch notes look like they're going in the right direction, but still need further tweaking) I think a greater portion of players will stick around now that they have a more concrete idea as to what's in store for us.
I'm totally with you on that. I'm not questioning the need for a subscription fee, and I hope the right price will maximize the number of players willing to pay while granting the best amount of revenue. But, no matter the price, a fee is going to see players drop off. Just how many is the question we may never know the answer to.
