The only thing that made me very pissed is that you can't have TENANTS, or share them with another player. I wanted to share my apartment with my GF's char so we can say we are "living together", but apparently that isn't possible :(

They could include a balcony and still have it instanced. You'd just be seeing your own view of outside and there'd be no view back and forth between your balcony and the main housing ward area. It'd be like the way you can see what looks like a portion of the neighboring region when you're near a region boundary. It's really just backdrop scenery.
I don't mind the setup at all. I got an apartment in the Mist ward after giving up hope of ever getting an actual house there. The great thing is when I teleport to the apartments or leave the building, I can see the beach. That's all I really wanted honestly.
The hardest part is trying to decide how to decorate it.
If the balcony had special scenery verses overlooking the rest of the ward, a balcony add-on would be possible.
The only issue I see with that, though, is that the Goblet may get the shaft as the area is surrounded by a fog covered canyon. At least compared to the beach and ocean or the forest. Perhaps if it overlooked Ul'dah? There is a path in the city that is supposed to lead directly to housing.
>> Balcony
Something like this?
I bought an apartment (Even though I share a house with my in-game hubby) and he bought one also. I also like the fact it has no reclaim/demolish timer on it <-- this in itself was worth buying it.
I've made mine into a really nice kitchen apartment although its not fully finished just yet. Sure its a little small but the 50 limit is alright and can be worked with. (15 of the 50 limit mind you is already taken up with housing foodstuffs - but no regrets). I have a room in the FC house also, but I am not changing that room. (The sacrificial room for ending the lives of sky breathers (non lalafell's) will remain untouched).
I think a balcony should be available for the apartments. The interior is instanced anyway.
Keep it instanced as well and simply match the current weather.
It would be great if they allowed all the apartments and the homes to have interior "expansions" one day. They really should strive for that.
I would love to have a conservatory for the homes, I built many of these in Rift, they can be gorgeous additions. (mind you in there I had personal space that equalled the size of an entire ward to decorate and build on ;;.)
But even if they could add features like the balcony and or sunrooms etc , that would do for this game :)
Pretty much the only possibilities for expansion is if they work with the instanced areas like the interior as opposed to the fixed "un-instanced" exterior.
Hope the apartments owners get their request! :D
Here's the thing SE can easily change the layout of inside the apartment due to being instance based. If they wanted to they can easily swap out the apartment (FC chamber code) for a small house code. They could easily add in airships for apartments and personal housing by swapping it out with the FC housing code for each layout. The apartment format is an exact copy of the FC chamber format. All they did was create the location and script for the apartments then copied paste the FC chamber script into the apartment script. Modified the existing FC chamber codes then tested it. Once all the tests were done they added it to the patch.
They can easily do this for housing as well. They can keep the ward lay out but just turn the plot itself into an instance. All you have to do is warp to your "house" location then go up to the gate and select your plot as if you were selecting your fc room.
They choose not to do this because of server limitations. They dont want to shell out more $$ for every player to have a sweet living space.
Would be nice to have the barrack's layout for apartment. Slightly bigger and something new for a change.
Also, pigeon hole-style mail box please!
There is no reason why apartments couldn't have been better. Another half baked idea lacking imagination. They should of been two floors with a view. It feels like the team behind it are not passionate about their work. Stop white knighting with the "it was meant to house the FCless homeless and nothing more." excuse. Fc members have the benefit of the house space + room.
There is an old game out called the Sims, I think it has great potential to appease the masses who are upset by a silly fluff feature in this game. You can build a palace in that game with no limitations!
I was hoping it had floors with more common area? I was hoping to like run into people in hallways lol. But a balcony is nice. Otherwise I can't really complain. I heard it didn't have a item limit. Not too sure how true that is but I am glad I have a permanent place to call my own. Now to find some crafting friends >.<
These aren't replacements for Housing how is someone to use Outdoor Furniture (taking up valuable retainer space) and to be able to try out gardening and not the in-door gardening pots either, if anything anyone with housing should lose their apartments they could also get their stupid guild back! And or anyone only with apartments they could add gardening for each apartment and only anyone with only an apartment can get these gardening add-ons where you could place like 6 gardening pot inside and be able to place other Outdoor Furniture!< this is the only thing really missing from apartments is Outdoor Furniture and Gardening!
And only anyone with only an apartment because anyone with housing they already have been able to use gardening so it wouldn't really be fair to others!
They missed the boat on apartments by making them just like FC rooms. They should have been larger, have a more interesting design with more than one room, and could have had access to some sort of instanced gardening.
