Does FFXIV *Really* Want A New Non-Viera Race?

the elves in ffxiv really do have awfully gross proportions. i hope a new race if it's tall that they make better proportions ><

Rather than make a new race, why not give Elezen a third clan that has all the proportions people expected to see in them?

Honestly I don't know what the big deal about Elezen proportions are. I just don't like the male faces, the females are quite pretty. There's a lot of long neck jokes, but I feel like a lot of clothes we find in Eorzea accommodates for that since they're the most populous race. I just with so many of us didn't get stuck with such massive collars D:

But what would said proportions be? If that happened, we'd have a race of Hildas, and it would rob the race of one of their iconic traits.

I know people don't like the Elezan proportions, but take that away, and they may as well be a third Hyuran clan.

Elezan proportions are fine. They're actually quite beautiful when standing still. It's their movements that are terrible. Elves should be graceful and these are the exact opposite, with the most stilted awkward and clumsy movements of any race in the game. (At least the female Elezen are. I haven't played a male Elezen, so haven't watched them in motion enough to notice if it holds true for them as well.)

To be honest personally would rather us have more character customization. Hell, third clans would be great if they added them.
If they did add a new race I'd rather it not be Viera. We already have enough cutesy races with Miqo'te, Midlander Hyur, Lalafell, and Au Ra. I'd really love for them to give us a so called "ugly" race over anymore cutesy ones.

As I always say in these topics, we really don't need a race of elezan wearing the gold saucer bunny ears, as that's all viera would be.

For a start, taking humans and putting cute cosmetic additions on them is nothing more than that, adding a cute factor. PlayBoy's bunny girls have been that way since the 50's at least, and no one accuses anyone finding them attractive of being a furry, because they're not. Seriously, are you saying that wearing fake ears makes you a furry? If so, you're wearing fake pointy ears, I guess that means your an 'elfy', right?

They'll likely just repeat what they did with Au Ra in 3.0 and toss Fantasias into one or more of the Special Edition/Collector's Edition/Pre-order bonus packs.

Something like Bangaa or any bestial race like the werewolves people would post in the past or some other strange ideas would never work because of the Ceremony of Eternal Bonding.

Try to imagine how a Bangaa and an Au Ra female would go through the Ceremony of Eternal Bonding: The Lover's Kiss :p

And they can't give a race exclusive ceremony because then everyone would want one for their race.

I'd rather have 1. Mixed races/more customization. 2. Viera. 3. Other stuff like beasty races. I just don't think a beast tribe-like race wouldn't fit in..

I would love to see the Viera added, and yes a second race for the others who hate the Viera. More options for our characters would be most welcomed, and alot of people do want them! And yes, we do need butt-sliders or even a patch that makes us have alittle more in the butt area. I hate running around with a flat butt, while Au Ra's have their cute bubble butts, along with every Miqo'te as well. Even my Roegadyn has a flat butt, but I guess her huge arms and shoulders makes up for it? Bad joke, but thats something else that needs fixing, the female Roegadyn needs to be more slimmer, less bulky in the shoulders and arms. And those noses? I think in time they will add quite a bit of these options for us, if we keep telling them that this is what we would love to have.

Before we had any info on FF14 other than the fact it was an MMO and being made, I had hoped it would have taken place in Ivalice. If it had been, I would have mained a Bangaa. FF12 and the Tactics Advance games made them grow on me, especially some of the allies you got. I was also one of those people disappointed in Au'Ra when they were first shown due to them being another Miqote style hybrid. I'm STILL craving an actual beast race to play as...such as this, I would play this race in a heartbeat.

That said, I'd totally play a spriggan. My theme song would be Pa Paya, and I'd use my gem as a weapon.

People complain about Elezen and ask for Viera forgetting that Viera in XII (and other Ivalice games) have very similar bodies, if not more elongated.
So uh... yeah, if you don't like Elezen, assuming Viera are actually true to their previous incarnations, that's what you're gonna get, awkward run and everything.

While I'm a big fan of Viera I feel like providing to different demographics is more important when having varied races so I'd much rather see something different, or y'know just expanding the current options (I'd love to see some more clan specific facial features and such). Personally if we were going to pull from Ivalice I'd be all over their Moogles but somehow I don't see that happening.

Now that I think about it, we could get half-breeds, maybe something exclusive to FFXIV. Half-Goblins, anyone? They'd have the beastly appearance mixed with humanoid stature, somewhere between the sizes of Lalafells and Midlander Hyurs. Not too beastly, but not to humanoid, and it could fetch so many moe points that people would Fantasia into them. Nu mou are mostly magic users. They'd need a new design to fit with the physical jobs.

I wouldn't mind having Viera in the game at all. So don't see as that much of a big deal at all & as a matter of fact I'm all for it, but the Real question is... Do we really NEED another race in this game? Because lets be serious, another race in this game isn't going to make much of a difference. We all ready have 6 Races in the game with 2 clans each that make ZERO difference except for lighter or darker skin tone (with Hyur's being the exception). There wont be any interesting stats, racial abilities, or anything that sets the 2 clans apart or unless your a roleplayer I guess. The only reason I see them doing this is because they'll make TONS of Phantasia sales. And it was a missed op when the concept art was revealed because reactions were huge for this. How many MMOs have you seen get coverage on gaming websites for just 1 single race? Doubt it may happen again, but life is weird like that lol

Well, it could tie in to the game's future story yet-to-come in SOME way. We've got Highlanders from Ala M. From the looks of things, we might be on our way to the Highlanders' homeland soon. I think it'd be cool if we visited the homeland of every playable race. Midlanders--some of them are Domans, we could visit Doma, eventually. Au Ras, from Othard (I think). I think we might've visited the Elezen's homeland already--Coerthas--but I'm unclear on their lore, as well as Miqo'te lore. If we were to see the homeland(?) of the Sea Wolf Roegadyns, we're probably gonna need a really big boat and thick raincoats.

The real question is would it just be a better idea to have a totally new race, and also viera on top of that. The new race would be the challenge to create, for viera... just longer ears and a different tail. Could actually do it as another miqote clan really.

Now that I think of it though I remember that viera lady from FFXII being tall and lanky kinda like an elezen, so why not just throw the ears and tail on an elezen and call it a day.

Technically they'd be the 'pretty Elezen' with rabbit ears. It would be easier for SE to just make them a third clan of Elezen (or redo one of the current clans), sans the rabbit ears (I said it before, but Viera are pretty much the elves of Ivalice).

I don't think there's going to be a new race because they would have advertised it by now or something but for the most part I'm kinda ok with it if there isn't. If it ends up as part of the story then so be it, it'll be an after thought until the next expansion

They might introduce the new race differently than they did with the Au Ra ... and even then the revelation was pretty meh. We got to see how the Au Ra looked like in fanfest (or was it some other event?) before we got to see Yugiri's face. I think we they should have revealed her face before doing that event and the way they did it was pretty bad too. She came in without a mask and was like "oh it fell when I saving Tataru: like it was no big deal.

Anyways, I'd rather they not make another race for the next expansion. It seems like the devs bitten off more than they could chew when making Heavensward. Not only did they have 3 new jobs, they also had to give each jobs 5 new abilities on top of making Zones, gear, dialogue, etc.

I'd rather they give us more faces and/or facial options per race. In anything, they can introduce another type of fantasia where it's only for face/ body options

Well, not every expansion has to bring a new race.
From what I have seen on the forums, I believe that many people would actually prefer more available customization for existing races.

I personally don't care, both options don't affect me so I am fine with whatever. If the expansion didn't bring any new race nor customization I would be fine with that too. But the "saved" developement time would have to be used somewhere else in the expansion.

If I'm going to use a fantasia, I rather use it to become a new race. Not to waste it changing my nose and mouth on existing races.

Seriously. People wanting more faces on current races over a brand new race mind boggle me. New races come with lore, and comes with new faces and features anyway. Which is far more exotic in my opinion then adding a 5th face to existing races which may not even be great. And while the new race could be awful to, the addition to lore makes it a winner in my book.

Just my opinion anyway.
