With the folks I run with to do maps, it is the map owner gets the loot since it was their map.
I'm happy doing this activity with my FC and LS mates and having a blast doing it.

We have it set up so that the map owner gets a priority on one item from the run, everything else is need. We do this often and has worked great for our Free Company I have seen other peoples rules etc but that's why I refuse to do maps outside of our FC.
The other day I got 3 bunnys on my run plus other lesser minions, gil, materia etc, I reserved 1st bunny the rest of my FC needed on every item we had a full clear. I think it is just greedy to keep all the stuff to yourself, hell me and 1 other supply the majority of the maps I either purchase them for the group or farm some.
For the same reason PrimalEx farm parties have Lootmaster, pick 1 rules. Its to mitigate bullshit unshielded RnG that this game loves.
Why would I spend my time to do a map if I don't get anything but a few scraps? Me and my fc/ls mates always do a everyone need system. Otherwise why spend your time on helping me open my map?
In my English LS on my server, we never do "owner only can roll need" because currently what we need is the Gil on 7th chamber lol.
I must be weird for thinking that the Aquapolis gives more than "just a few scraps". If you get lucky and you get a few goblins during a run, that's already 10-45k per goblin. Get to the end? Another 100k for everyone in the party. Get Arges to spawn in one of the later rooms? Chances are you might end up with a good grade V materia (since those aren't rolled on)
Sure, the map owner also has a chance of getting some big rewards, like a good minion, or an orchestrion roll. But the most I've seen dropped during my maps were cheap things like red scrips, and glamour pieces that have tanked in price since 3.3, with a few of the cheaper minions.
I guess that works as long as everyone has a map. We often just have three or four people that collect em and we pick a day and get a group to run them all at once. It's a hell of a lot more fun and less hostile than what you guys are describing. Plus with Aquapolis a single map owner can super luck out and get so so much, whereas others could not get portals and be shafted.
I join the pts where everyone just keeps straight to bag drops and then owner can need items on their map.
It's easier and less frustrating to get nothing worthwhile the entire run when you get nothing from your own maps over getting nothing at all from a run even though your map dropped 5 highly sought after items and you rolled a 10 or under on them all.
Went with few FC members and an outside friend who wanted to see Aquapolis for the first time.
The rule was that the map owner gets everything and this was the second time I went in and the rule wasn't mentioned til the 2nd/3rd chamber, my friend kept looting need and one of my FC members got angry at her. I think if the game doesn't allow you to set loot rules than everything should be fair game. FC lost out on a Thanarvian (spelling?) dress and said "STOP NEEDING!" You can get those for 10k on Tonberry and the marketboard is right outside our FC house so it's not like he even had to go out his way to get one.
It's like the rule for Aquapolis loot on Tonberry was decided from the get go.
RNG is RNG.
everyone can get a portal or no one will get a portal.
But that is no fault of anyone in the party.
We just accept it and move on. Hoping for a better turn out next time.
The general rule I go with is:
- Everyone brings an equal number of maps.
- Map owner loot priority.
- Method of door choosing is determined by the map owner
- Help everyone finish their maps.
PS: the rules are not set in stone and can be adjusted according to the needs of the party member
My FC has done several map nights since it came out. We do map owner needs, everyone else greeds. Whatever drops directly into your inventory is yours. We now have a bunch of different people actively gathering maps to do since everyone loves doing it. We routinely bring along people without maps as well, because this is finally content we can do together, no matter what number of people are on/what jobs they are.
Everyone is very happy with the money they make off the evenings, even when they don't get the chest drops. I don't see how anyone can call hundreds of k of gil a night, and multiple Tier 3-5 materia 'scraps'. We had a very lucky night this week, and everyone made 600k ish in straight gil drops. I don't know how much money everyone else has, but no one considered that 'not worth their time' because they couldn't roll need.
My FC is pretty laid back. Everyone gathers as much maps as possible and we go for a long dungeon map hunting FFA.
It pretty fun when everyone rolls greed and tease each other. Hey i don't mind feeding my boyfriend his coke addiction and my FC mate his ore addiction. Certain items like the Thavnairian glamour set i would ask for it tho but everyone was ok. Point is stick to friend and your FC to do maps and you will be fine. :D

Check it out its our first 7th chamber completion!! All right doors plus 4 ogres XD
For my FC, we typically follow the rule of map owner rolls Need on whatever they want, everyone else rolls Greed, auto rolled loot goes to whoever got the loot.
For people trying to say that this is group content and that people wouldn't even get the clears without everyone involved, I only have this to say: You can do Aquapolis duo so it doesn't require a group at all. With that said, it is a lot more fun to do this in a group which is why with my FC we typically run it in 4-8 man groups. It's something short and fun that everyone can participate in and come out with free gil (as most of us are capable of gathering our own maps). People without maps have no problem with our loot system as they are getting free stuff and making a decent amount of gil for essentially hanging out with friends. Also, on my server at least, maps aren't even expensive to purchase (last night they were around 50k each).
Your map, your loot, Aquapolis included in rule for rolled items. It's seems to work out just fine for me in PF. Best drop so far was when a Control V dropped in someone's inventory (not mine) who wasn't the map owner and no one complained, so it's working fine. No one is wasting their time, since everyone gets items and gil dropped in their inventory. Been doing this rule since patch day. You're making an issue where there is none. Don't like the rules? Don't join their party.
We do our maps as a group of 3, a warrior, a white mage, and a black mage. We need on our own maps/greed on someone else's, if we already have the item or do not need it, we just pass so the loot goes to the person with the higher roll on greed. As for the stuff that goes straight into our inventory, most of the time they would just trade it to me those that they don't use regardless of whose map it is, since I have a retainer just for 3.0 crafting mats.
I don't like doing maps with strangers since there's the looting issue. Been doing maps with just my 2 other friends since 3.0 started so that's kinda like our daily thing.
Oh and since we've been mass stocking up on maps before Aquapolis came out, we sent maps to each other's mail so we no longer have any idea which map belongs to who. We just grab whatever we have and go treasure hunting.
We usually go with a group of four and bring about 2 maps each, 3 if we get unlucky with too little or no Aquapolis portals. I've seen people generally favor the your map, your loot method even when I put up a Party Finder from time-to-time.
All it does is shift the RNG. Does your map pop a portal? If so, you're better off doing "your map your loot", and if not, you're better off doing "FFA inside".
Neither is shady in any way as long as the rules are known upfront.
i am only doing maps with friends. it's free for all except minions and orchestrion scrolls - if you don't have them you can roll need, if you already have them and just want to sell them then roll greed.
yes, the map owner has gathered or bought the map. but all people in the group are working together to clear the map and dungeon, so everyone deserves a fair chance on the loot :O
If doing as random pf will only do all FFA inside aquapolis otherwise you get people who leave after finishing their maps.
