yeah calling BS on that, lol.

I'm not someone who wants it right now and handed to me. I am fine with doing stuff every day and working towards a goal...
however at this point, it would have been good to maybe lower item cost through tomes from 680 to maybe 350 or 400 instead of nerfing a pointless portion (crystals). From the initial release, would it really have been "handed to you" if it was 10 of each item instead of 20? still take a month or more for most people to complete. It's just excessive and punishing for some people...especially those that felt 2.0 beast tribes were boring or pointless thus limiting their options.
With 2 weeks of play time you can only get 12 items through beast quests, which means it would have taken roughly 23,120 Esoterics and Poetics tomes in order to fill out the remaining 68 items. Even if you did every economical roulette for the bonus (Main Scenario, Trial, Leveling, 50, & 60) that would only net you with 4.760 bonus Eso and 2,640 bonus Poetics, which is a far cry from the amount you would need. It would be more realistic if you said 2 months instead of 2 weeks.
I don't have much of a problem with the unidentifiable items. It's the crafting items that stumped me.
Please keep in mind that while:
The majority of us have. On the long run they shouldn't nerf it as a whole for the sake of a very, very, very, very small percentage of players that "barely have time to do the daily roulettes". If you can't play 2 hours a day regardless of the day (including the weekend), doing one of the most grindy optional quests in the game might not be aimed at you.
And please, don't assume people that can achieve something you can't have no life or nothing to do; everyone has their own routine and daily struggles. The fact you got time to make this thread makes you a "no life" just like me and everyone else here.
They should have left the gil portion out of it mos def.
You think getting the relic takes a long time? The alternative to the relic quest is doing Savage raiding, and that, my friends, is a timesink if ever there was one.
The relics are intended as a means for less "hardcore" players to obtain high-level weaponry. It is a walk in the park compared to reaching, clearing and farming A8S, even if the time investment is significant.
The minimum-effort way to an i240 weapon is logging in once a week to clear A8N for seven weeks so you can get the Lore weapon.
I didn't find it that bad to be honest, didnt really do any serious grinding, tried the alexander grind, hated it, so just stuck with pretty much roulette and beast tribe dailies. Now with just that I manage to get 2 done by the time the next step come out, each taking about a little over a month to complete. These weapons are meant to be drawn out and tedious, completely optional and not for everyone if you dont have the time, patience, and sometimes sanity, then this is just not for you. They gave us about 3 months, between 3.15 and 3.25 to get at least one completed before that next step, and if you're finding that difficult to achieve, then this weapon is just beyond you as harsh as that sounds. Now if you really want these weapons then just hold and and the steps will "eventually" be nerfed, but keep in mind you will be in pretty much the same spot cause there will still be more steps.
At least at this stage the previous version was fun kill x mobs, kill Chimera, Hard primals and Hydra. Now that was fun and probably took same amount of time as collecting 20 items. This was locked behind a time sync but least it was fun and rewarding nothing about Anima is classed as rewarding. I don't even know why they even bother making any quests for it just make each stage collect 100k lore. They could of used diadem, weeping city, deep dungeon, Midas, Aquapolis hell even hildy fights to make it interesting.
MMORPGs are time consuming genre of games.
Deal with it.
EDIT:
By the way relic quest isn't meant to be hard, it is meant to be grindy. There is tomestone weapon, grind weapon and hard-obtainable weapon (raid).
Even Yoshi said (2-3 Live Letters ago) that relic is grindy alternative to other weapons that is supposed to be a bit behind raid weapon and is supposed to take some time to get.
Yeah love that about the old relic, plus it felt more like an achievement when you got it after doing all those. I guess they moved away from that to better differ they ways you get weapons now, so like;
Savage Raid = heavy skill+time
Anima = no skill+heavy time
Primal EX = skill+no time
Tomestone = balance
I am however liking that they are at least giving us different options to complete these step, but really wish they would do something else other than tomestones grinds, dont mind the grind but its very very boring. They should at least toss a few tests/fights in this, if they dont want skill based then they dont need to be difficult, it can just be story based or something of that sort...
Tomestone is still locked behind 7 weeks of A8 kills and still requires some skill. Lost count at the amount of times I have watched someone run away with the AOE marker. When you compare that with Anima which can be done in 8 weeks for a lesser stage.
SE said they wanted to make it easy for casuals, but when the tome weapon which is for casuals is harder than the Anima then I'm sorry they screwed up.
I suppose so but its still one of those "eventually" you'll get the weapon, and to be honest kind of expected them to have added another way or eased up on getting that high capacity tomestone by now. That and unidentified, things actually feel a bit late with these kinds of nerfs, I wonder why...
I like the way you assume raiders have no life. You know lots of raiders log in and raid for a few hours a week, since thats what they enjoy and thats what they have time for.
Back to relic, its not designed for everyone. There also isnt a time limit on it, you can complete it however you like in what ever time period suits you. There are lore weapons there for those with less time than is needed to commit to relic.
I've been working on it for over 2 months now. Still not even close.
People keep saying can't expect them to make it too easy to obtain the best weapon, firstly it is not the best weapon. Secondly the part the OP is complaining about only bumps the weapon up to 210 and not 240. I can very much understand why someone would think the amount of work in this stage just to go from 200-210 is not reasonable. While people will be harder pressed to argue about the overall amount of work required to hit 240, there is a valid argument to be had about the various stages not being equally balanced in terms of effort vs reward for them.
Each stage is not equally shared in terms of amounts of effort and for a pretty low stage this requires a lot of effort, perhaps too much when just going from 200 to 210. It might have been better to more equally share out the burden across all stages rather than making some extremely hard while others easier and if they are to make some easy and some hard then the hard ones should be in the latter stages and not the early ones.
They'll nerf it later. They always do.
chimera and hydra were awesome! , the 3 trials were cool , titan was "hard" at the time? yeah but give me 10 titans instead of farming tomes , or buying HQ items any day of the week....at least that would challenge me....but noooooo fate spams , low lvl dungeons and then farm this content x100000 and pay or level crafting or ask a stranger to craft ....i dont see anything close to "awesome" in that content ...nor anything that feels like i deserve a powerfull weapon...
This, exactly. Thank you.
People cried about the challenge, thus we got a mindless, uninspired grind. No 4.0 relic for me, even if they go back and actually challenge you to earn it again. I'm done with this nonsense. Made it through ARR, and so far all of HVW without a relic. I think I'll be fine to completely opt out next time around.
This. Before you actually had to interact, carry your own weight, and make friends in the process of getting your relic. Now, you have to mentally prepare yourself to farm x currencies to obtain x item to trade in for x material to upgrade your relic. Have fun!
I hope those who wished this current system onto the game is having lots of fun with it.
I smell b8
While I never really minded the presence of more difficult content in obtaining a Relic (I was hoping the last step of ARR would involve the three original EX Primals so the process could come full circle), the Zodiac/Anima questlines are some of my favorite content in the game. I had 4 Zeta weapons by the end of ARR (and a Nexus that I abandoned until after HW), and I'm on track to have 3 or 4 completed Anima weapons by the end of HW.
Regarding the topic itself, I am quite surprised they have yet to lessen the requirements for the 210 stage, though. By this point into ARR we had seen reductions in tomestone costs for Animus books and increases in Atma drop rates. All they've done so far to the Anima line is increase the luminous crystal drop rates. Normally when we get a new tomestone, the cost of items when converted to that new tomestone are reduced, and they kept the Esoterics cost equivalent to the Law cost for that portion. Coupled with the recent restructuring of Hunt Mark rewards and the changes to tomestone rewards from dungeons, this actually resulted in the stage becoming a little harder in 3.2, though it's since returned to about the same as it was initially with the adjustments to Tomestone rewards in 3.3.
Glad the thread was bumped so I could see this post. In what way was it fun?
I fully enjoyed the opportunity to invest an effort I'd otherwise never see reason to for a quest line in this game, as someone who hadn't bothered with raid based content in the past at the time. But as someone who has played the entirety of my time with FF14 in Hyperion, I can say that there were a couple of phases that were not appealing to me. The amount of Grade 4 Carbonized Matter I had to sell..... lord. The silver lining could be that it did enforce the need to cap both my Botany and Miner to 50.
If I were to choose which phase would be my favorite, I'd say it'd have to be both the Atma and Alexandrite grind. It allowed me to unite with strangers to meet a common goal, and boast about my unnatural luck.
From what I've experienced with the Realm Reborn relic though, despite the Eso/Poetic grinding, it feels much easier.
I somewhat understand where OP is coming from.
Doing Gordias is pointless. Queues are too long to get 10 items for one reward. So that easy part is off the table.
Then it gets down to doing daily beastmen quests and tomestones. Just to get one item from one beastmen camp takes 5 days.
Unless you are repeatedly doing dungeons over and over and over again, it will take a very long time.
I'm hoping that they reduce the requirement of the unidentifiable items to 10 on the patch this Tuesday. 20 of each of those items is extreme
when there are 240 weapons available.
Since majority of people wait for nerfs and buffs to do these quests, can we just have an engaging and challenging quest chain that was on par with Titan HM back in the day?
Is that possible? For me, the whole point of Titan HM's difficulty, was its quickened pace and enforcement of the aoe mechanics in the game, and the realization that there is a very minor latency gap between the end of a cast meter and the actual cast time. By level 60, that should be considered too easy for people, or at least I'd hope for it to be the case. If we'd return to what felt like a challenge in the past, we'd need something new and potentially inventive to add to the whole schtick, which I'd be all for.
Yeah you have that already. If you clear the engaging and challenging fight of Nidhogg EX, you can get a i235 weapon. If you want something even more engaging and challenging you can try your hand at Alexander Midas 4 Savage to get a i245 weapon.
And no, a majority of people don't wait for nerfs to do this. 210 stage might be nerfed when ilvl250+ weapons are easy to get so those that wait for nerfs mainly just go for alternate weapons. Most people do it as it's released.
Ive done Nidhogg EX and have my weapon which has been since replaced with the i240 anima weapon. Most people would like some engaging and challenging (hardmode fights are barely challenging) but something that isn't just a grind with no substance. To sit here and say this is acceptable is crazy. And yes a portion of the community do wait for nerfs you can see it in most threads that relate to this subject.
Ive said it before they should have 2 versions, one that is engaging and requires some effort (new trials, solo fights, etc) which is more difficult and a boring way with lots of grind like we have now.
I know the game has been updated since this thread was created but it isn't 'hard', just time consuming. I don't have a problem with the best weapons being grindy. If you don't have enough time to get the weapon, you don't need the weapon. Not having it isn't going to hold you back.
Not necessarily true. Many people log only/partly to raid, and I would say the relic is absolutely BiS by far for Scholars as they can put a tonne of accuracy into it. Without it, they have to sacrifice item level to overmeld accuracy, which would certainly hold them back in comparison to relic holders.
The issue isn't necessarily the grind, but it's the lack of creativity. The Novus step was arguably as lengthy as the current steps for Anima, but it had various methods to obtain the item, and you also would find ways to make money for materia or spiritbond gear. Compare all of that to being forced to buy items with esoterics only and you can see why this Anima weapon is a huge bore. Not only that but the past three steps have basically been eso grinds, which is seriously tedious even for people who have the time to do it all.
Which I personally don't take too much issue in, considering how many things reward esoterics.
Nearly all the roulettes do, normal dungeons do, raids do, PvP does, hunts do, Diadem does...really, slap some more on FATES, leve- and beast tribe quests and just about all DoW activities reward the needed tomes. This is actually something I rather liked about these last steps - you really don't need to go out of your way to make progress, even if some methods are naturally more efficient. On the flipside, "making money" or "spiritbonding" are things I really never do.
The reality is, relic weapons are intended for people who play the game excessively. There is no requirement to have one.
