Do we really need Alphinaud?

You described every NPC in the game, not just alphinaud.

Alphinaud has actually helped us more than any other NPC though, having been in several solo scenarios offering assistance at this point with his healing and ruby carbuncle (that we'll never get!). It's fine you don't like him, but lets look at the facts.

Alphinaud doesn't bother me especially since his attitude adjustment in Heavensward. I do, however, want to mug him for his carbuncles (ruby and obsidian!).

Kupocoupo, Anthyitis and several other people have summarized it very well as to why Alphinaud is an excellent character. Not to toss in any spoilers but he actually got my intense respect back when both he and Aliasie helped the WoL fight in Coil.

I think people are just jealous because even though he is Sensei Louisoix's grandson, he actually forged his own path without riding on granddad's coattails. And I can personally identify with that. And heck, if I can help him become the next leader of Sharlayan in the future, I will decimate any who opposes his path to that seat.

True story.

Let's be brutally honest: His mental perception and brilliance is exceptional, his character development has actually been very progressive and most of all, he is a true friend to the WoL. I think he's a great character and I thoroughly like the fact that he has the respect of Aymeric (who all my friends know to be my favourite NPC). And he is amoungst the three Scions I really like... Ystola, Thancred and Urianger. Minifilia just grates on my nerves.

Just give it a rest already... can't deny the cold fact that the kid has a great innate ability and the trippy part is that he hasn't even fully come into his own just yet. Wait for another couple expansions and watch him become something really incredible.

I guess i'll put in my $0.02, I wasn't a big fan of Alphinaud in the beginning...he was arrogant for sure and a very spoiled brat, but he was very cool and collected i'll give him that, his sister i liked a little more, very outspoken and wasn't afraid to speak her mind, her only fault was she let her emotions take control and get the better of her.

Both have grown so very much...in their own way, its very plain to see in the CSs how they have matured and grown, I like these two sibling characters a lot more than when they were first introduced to us in that carriage...or boat ride...depending what city state you started in, I can see how SE is slowly and carefully having these characters grow and mature in the MSQ...alongside with our character, we should keep watching to see how much more they can grow and mature...they are after all still teenagers, they might grow up to be someone like Haurchefant, or even someone like their grandfather, so everyone should just chill and be patient and see how much more and in the many ways SE might develop these two sibling characters.

I'll admit I didn't like Alphinaux much at the beginning. He seemed like a spoiled know-it-all who isn't anywhere near as brilliant as he thinks he is, especially when it comes to complicated political issues. As 2.55 proved, that was actually intentional. They set up Alphinaux as a naive, arrogant child, who is intensely humbled by the situation and shown the error of his ways. His character development throughout Heavensward, even if it's something as simple as needing to pick up firewood, made him a significantly better character. While he isn't necessarily my favorite character, he's still likeable and hardly a bad one.

From a doylist perspective though, we need a companion character who can speak for us, since our character's cannot. Ideally though, this character can still have his/her own role in the story, and stick firmly to support. In that regard, Alphinaux is perfect. He has a supportive combat style (focusing on healing magic so your character can shine in game), and he often takes a more "mission control" role that keeps the spotlight on the Warrior of Light. Overall, he's well designed in that regard.

I'll admit, I wasn't the biggest fan of Alphinaud when he was first introduced. Throughout A Realm Reborn, he was borderline unlikable who I just hated seeing on screen to the point where I felt like he got what he deserved at the end of 2.55. However, since then, that's changed due to his massive character development throughout Heavensward and he's actually grown into one of my favorites.

He's more charismatic, doesn't see us as a weapon anymore but as a friend and more importantly, a human being. He helps us more as opposed to waiting on the sidelines, and shows genuine concern over his comrades safety. He's young, and just needed a big reality check on how things work.

I don't hate him as a character, but I do hate his overly prominent role in the story. It's like he's there to be the main character and make all the decisions just because our own characters are silent and don't do anything. All the other NPCs, particularly the rest of the "Scions," are involved in some main story quests with us, but it feels like they made Alphinaud involved in every single one sometimes.

At the very least I'd like to see Alisaie have as much of a role in doing this, and I was glad to see her finally be in five seconds of a cutscene again.

I hate this character.. with a passion lol. please kill him off :D

I have to admit. I hated the damn guy til after 2.55. He has grown up and more caring about others. Tho I like Alisaie more, I like to see character development. Only character who hasn't developed and sadly has been destroyed for any kind of growth is Minfilia.

We don't need Alphi. But we really need his outfit and hair for glamour.

Hes just so boring....look at the scions they've gone through changes one way or another but Aplhinaud is just so plain

You seriously don't see how he changed from 2.0 into 3.0? Aside from Thancred and maybe Tataru, none of the other scions changed.

I feel like I should give my two cents being prominently in the alphie-must-die category most of my dislike for him was based off his earlier beliefs that he could single handedly save Eorzea with his GC or mercenaries and treated the WOL as his own personal weapon who could do whatever whenever no questions asked.
However, after rewatching cutscenes from the last few patches he has matured a lot I have to admit the 2.55-3.0 pity party was pretty unbearable but instead of ordering us off he more often than not is right there with us assuring us he has our back (except when Estinien orders him to stay behind...)

He's had a lot of development going from naïve to stubbornly idealistic - albeit with a tinge of realism he's hard not to like, as well as our irreplaceable voice. Most other characters pick and choose when to accompany us, mostly only when it serves theor needs and desires but he is the one I picture at our back no matter what.

It's been said that Heavensward is just as much a story of Alphinaud's growth from a silver-tongued boy scholar playing at being a diplomat into a more mature, less naive young man who leads words into actions. Pay close attention to the Alph/Estinien relationship, as well as the few, rare moments of fire within him. He's not exactly a fighter (that's our job), but in his own right, Alphinaud's becoming a Warrior of Light in his own way.

I enjoyed the addition of Krile and the sometimes subtle, sometimes in your face jabs at him that prove, yes, he's still just a boy (his implied excitement at seeing her naked), but he's still coming into his own. As you grow in fame for your actions, so to does he. You and Alphinaud together make the Warrior of Light legend.

LOLOL, you sir are definitely playing the wrong game because there's no such thing as a manly man in FF. Even if there was, he will never be the main character.

Guy, Galuf, Rude even Raubahn can be considered manly I guess. Only 4 I can think of though so I guess it speaks volumes about how manly looking FF males are in general. Not that I mind, they're all cute and FF has some of the most attractive males yet.

Raubahn is not so smart. Why is he listening to an evil lala sultana? He should kill her (and the other evil midget politicians) and become a sultan.

They never have before on major story elements, mainly because it requires too much work to cover and keep covering the variations in the story later on.

Well all Lalas are evil. He is listening to her because she is the current head of state and she is a lot less corrupt than most of Ul'dah's other leaders. Also his rise to power was tied to hers. Anyway he couldn't become sultan by force. The people of Ul'dah wouldn't accept him in a forced coup and at the very least it would completely cripple Ul'dah's economy if the wealthiest organisations in Ul'dah all became aggressive towards the leadership.

Low sex drive, she liked flying and she was a dragon fangirl? Dragons don't pick mates for breeding purposes cause dragons can breed Asexually. In practically everything they do Dragons can utilise a lot of Aether. Its highly likely that the larger dragons use control over Aetheric wind to assist in their flying. More to the point, he probably just compensates. He is thousands of years old and would have had a lot of practice.

Alphinaud and Minfillia are calculated whiners after they make really crappy decisions. I can recall in late in 2.0, laughing with a PUG in DF about how worthless Minfillia was. Either she gets captured by the garleans or screws up the scions plans. Alphinaud is neither stronger or more confident I mean his hard on for Eistinien is another whiney stupid predictable character flaw, whiners gonna whine.

They're playing a role that's way less important than Alphinaud's role. If I want an assistant, I'll pick someone more reliable.

Alphinaud has demonstrated a lot of raw talent as a tactician and negotiator but 95% of the time it all falls apart on him because he's just too immature and inexperienced to be effective. And that's great.

I'm really enjoying watching him mature in near real-time, in an expansion or three he's going to be a lot closer to the strategist he thinks he is.
