According to Tataru, linkpearl signals are easily intercepted. Which begs the question: Why did she even give us one in the first place? They rarely used it. :/

What? You mean Aymeric, the man who survived an attempted assassination and then proceed to fight side by side with the Warrior of Light and even held off a group of enemies while you saved the hostages even while he was still wounded? Just saying, he's not a stand still do nothing guy, he's taken an active role in his actions.
3.2 spoiler:
I think SE is being intentionally misleading with Aymeric in the latest patch though. There were a lot of hint to me at least, not that he was coming on to us(maybe not in a good intentions form anyway), but that he may be a means to an end type of person. Maybe its just the awkwardly genarated faces though, with transaltions... At this point in time, I am as wary of him as I am Tartaru and Rowena, but Rowena is more my own head canon.
Yes, Aymeric is definitely using us. But I'm more concerned about Thancred. The WoL seems completely oblivious to his obvious cries for help. He's only shown that vulnerable side to us, and we (the players) can't do anything to help him for story reasons.
After clearing the vault and back then when "Sickness must be purged" was in madmode, I cured my party and myself through burns beyond my comprehension.
But in the following cutscene: I couldnt even cast a cure? Not even at least try? At least do something?
For me it wasnt only a tragic scene, it was a disgrace to be a white mage in that one cutscene. I am one of the most 1337 Healers in Eorzea but cant help a friend?
It wasnt the first time that I actually facepalmed at my observer avatar but after that I went into every cutscene as a DPS to make it at least look a bit better.
Or the final fights back then when I stood there and was like: "I got a cane and unlimited continues - what u gonna do about it?"
I honestly got the impression that placing a voice on the WoL was avoided because that would make them seem more detached from us if we weren't very fond of it and if the emotion or intellect behind what they say doesn't match our expectations. Since it's not like our characters say a whole lot anyways, I doubt voicing a few pieces for a couple of scenes would strain the budget by very much, even with all twelve voices. Even if you're gated behind their reactions, you can still imagine for yourself the way they say things and what exactly they might say when they appear to be talking.
That's my impression anyways. I'm kind of glad that they are not voiced, unless they gave the option.
Same reason why we didn't "heal" the Sultana in the end of 2.5; gameplay and story segregation for drama. People would complain how healers would get a cutscene where their character did something while characters that are not healers got the short end of the stick or find some other reasoning as to why their non healer should have saved him. If you want a more logical explanation, loverboy was too far gone for any form of Cure to save him. Sort of like trying to stop the bleeding of someone dying when they have a bullet that pierced their heart.
who cares? I never asked them to jump in and take the attacks for me. I'm not gonna die and even if I die I can just regenerate at the aetheryte.
they all died because they tried to take the spotlight from me. that's great. I hope Thancred and Alphinaud will die in the near future too.
With the Sultana it could be explained by Teledji and his mooks coming in too soon for the WoL to even try anything to help (the shock having stopped them long enough for such to happen.) With Haurchefaunt they could have had non-healers try a potion while healers got to try healing him and yet failing anyways. It wouldn't be the first time someone was too far gone for such to work (Looking at you V).
You mean like every other game were you can just respawn, except when you can't because -gaspeth- such a thing is (usually) just a game device and not really a part of the story? No our character is highly unlikely to die until the final day of the game but characters in-game ain't exactly privvy to that info.
I realy hope at 3.5/3.55 when another plottwist happens, this time our character says "NO, this time I will protect everyone".
