Servers possibly being shut down temp.

heh is that 30 or 90 mins? Arguing with a friend over it, heh yes it's DLS, but rest of the world doesn't catch up for a few months, so would they take that into account? I remember last year games still listing PST as being a hour off.

Good call from SE to take them down for at least a week - conserving energy is the best way to go about it right now. Right now, the most important thing is to give all citizens, who lost their home due to the earthquakes and tsunami shelter and next would be to solve the many problems with the nuclear power plants.

Servers will shutdown in approximately 1 1/2 hours.

The official notice says it will be down at least a week if not longer. They do have a very serious crisis in Japan between the quake, the tsunami, and possible, multiple nuclear reactor meltdowns. Many people are homeless and without food and water. It's amazing they've kept things running this long.

That sucks, I guess it's up to themselves. I wonder what they will be doing in their spare time, but more importantly, for how long are they going to be doing this? According to YouTube videos, Japan doesn't look so good...

yeah, they are in our thoughts and such...I hope they can recover from all this soon not just SE but everyone and everything there...

Hopefully TF2 can keep me entertained for the week or so the game is down. Not really fond of being cramped in the house due to the cold.

whats the condition of the other reactor? I know the one seems to be going into meltdown and even if not, it's not going to be usable any time soon.

I usually don't troll on posts, but anyone who disagrees with the servers -- edit*going down for a week*/edit -- is ignorant [Removed by Moderator according to the FINAL FANTASY XIV FORUM Guidelines.]. Here's some helpful points.

1. Natural disasters can lead to more disaster.

2. If the Nuclear power plant melts down and we have another Chernobyl, we us Americans should be concerned because our West Coast will be affected from the fallout. This could be via Air, or the more likely the radioactive isotopes that will get into the ocean and effect all of Hawaii and the shores of the west coasts' of North and South America, as well as any marine industry.

3.Japan (as I've already seen stated in previous posts) is part of the Energy Conservation Act. If they as a company do not abide by the order given to them, then they in turn would be shut down and FFXI and FFXIV would no longer exist for anyone.

4. As more tremors follow, with computers and servers running, the hard drives being jolted around at any point in time could cause any of them to give out, weather they are the game servers, login, lobby, or test servers or any server being run with the original game that is running for continual development could go down and be totally destroyed and unusable. Hence, this could prevent one game from being back up in a couple of day, to a couple of month.

So anyone else who doesn't agree with SE or can't feel any kind of sympathy for Japans current crisis, please [Removed by Moderator according to the FINAL FANTASY XIV FORUM Guidelines.].

That being said, I'm sorry if my language offended anyone, but sometimes the truth hurts. If I get banned from the forms or reported for what I'm saying here, so be it. I don't think anyone has the right to say that SE shutting down the servers during a time of crisis is right, and I'll take being banned out of a forum any day of my life for giving my two cents about the ugly souls who are against this kind of decision.

I honestly hope the best for their people.

I know we complain a lot that ancient magics are lackluster, but this time the SE interns go too far! Too far!

Alright, this earthquake was bad. Japan suffered, they re low on energy sources and so on, I didnt read all. They have to do these measures. And I am disgusted by these people bitching that servers are at wrong country, they can not play, if server are down they will find different game. My advice is for these people :

Really go and find another game.

If you cant take facts into your mind that a country disaster did the damage. Seriously you think primarily of game running and nothing else matter. Then I am ashamed you are part of this community :P Really, why do you whine that servers are down because of natural disaster ?! (Huh?!) We could expect this after the situation that occured in Japan. And to be honest, I dont mind that servers are at Japan. I am glad with that because they are right next to devs. source.

Sooner or later FFXIV, FFXI will be avaible again.

Now I just wish J. to overcome this fast and no more victims.

Those of you more worried about your video games, thinking they take precedence over the fact thousands are injured, missing, and dead because of this tragedy... Do yourself a favor, remove any game consoles, and computers from your convenient access until you get a grip on reality. Getting electricity back to the hospitals, shelters, residences of Japan is just a TINY BIT more important than keeping some game servers running.

It be nice, but I've long given up hoping about anything like that, just watching stuff going on in US this year has me depressed too much to hope for anything like that.

But laughing about a possible earthquake that hit san fran back in the 1900's mix with a tsunami seen in the big easy plus a second Chrynoble(sp). Guys that town is still radioactive. And is literally a ghost town. Stuff is still there like shoes on the ground.

First of all I would like to say that my prayers and best wishes go out to the people of Japan

Given the gravity of the situation there I fully support SE's decision to temporarily suspend all service except for the websites. That decision was a no brainer. concidering the reported damage to the enegy grid in Japan I will be suprised if the servers are back up before the end of the month. That would be totally understandable. for FFXI players SE tweeted that April will be free.

Lastly I would like to commend the majority of posters of this thread for their compassion and understanding during this trying time

Dont forget to shed some tears for the people dying in other parts of the world like Libya since you guys are such bleeding hearts for people you dont know....or is it only for JP people you dont know?

I hope that power plant doesn't explode ; ;.

Kilta, I believe you misinterpreted my post, also you didn't read/comprehend what I said about a "second Chernobyl" apparently. So I ask you don't put me in the same category as those people.

Not only should our hearts, thoughts and prayers go out to those in Japan, but I was simply stating the higher possibility of what could happen if things continue to worsen.

SE is a Japanese based company. If you can't handle your game being down due to a natural disaster where the company is based, stop buying their products. They won't miss you, nor will we. Some people really are just... disgusting.

yeah earthquakes do happen all the time, but seldom in recorded history have they been 9+ on the scale. that's record breaking and not in a good way. the scale only goes up to 10, and the reason people are saying that our heart and prayers and thoughts all go to japan it's because they were hit at the closest point to the epicenter. everywhere else had warning and those people were evacuated appropriately. watch the news much?
