A group I was in didn't even make it past the first mechanic numerous times.

I'm just gonna wait for my friends so we can all nuke it together.

I just won't bother
You don't have to, though.
My group does this. (Sorry for my bad paint skills)

well I have not even tried sephy normal yet.
I ran Bismark ex for the first time last night, through duty finder. I then ran it 10 more times to get used to it for bird farms. Only on the first run did we wipe. It's actually very easy now and I found even with new people in nearly every party we still did well.
I haven't even done hard mode yet. Which leads to the same problem I have with Thordan EX and which I had with Bismarck and Ravana for the longest time - clearing content after the first few days is incredibly hard because all the good people are already farming and one tends to get stuck with the bottom line of players who couldn't clear it before.
That's fine though - I'm not gonna stop pacing myself and enjoying a new patch at my own leisure just to keep up with the people rushing through everything on day 1.
One has to have priorities, and since my satisfaction level seems to be infinitely higher than most people's, I think I'm doing something right, even if it means I won't have the shiny bird first ;)
Your satisfaction level is INFINITELY higher than most people? Do you have like an IV drip of morphine and ecstasy? Can I have some?
It's okay to take things at your own pace but don't belittle people that enjoy being first to clear, it's just not your style, different strokes for different folks
A lot of my friends I would have normally done something like this with retired, so I haven't tried it yet. Hope some time to do it with the FC.
My static is still working on it, but we've only spent two raid nights on it. We'll go in on Sunday hopeful for good progress. Only one person in my FC has been in a party that cleared.
If we were to spend a solid 6-8 hours on it I'm sure we'd knock it down, but none of us have the time to spare on that. I'll probably try to join some learn/clear parties tomorrow if I have time.
Extreme primal are a bit outside my skill level. Just clearing normal mode would be an achievement.
Indeed. :)
I find I enjoy the game in general more now that I am quite far behind the 'lead group'. There is no stress or pressure, everything I do in the game now is purely for fun, and if I get stressed by it, it's my own fault, and I go do something else.
I find this is a pretty good guide for how I approach gaming and FFXIV.
Family>Health>Work>Leisure>Gaming>FFXIV
or for some people;
Faith & Family>Health>Work>Leisure>Gaming>FFXIV
Agreed.
IMO, Sephy EX is another kind of hard compare to Thordan EX. The hardest part about Sephy Ex is the first knockback. Imo it is one of the most flawed mechanic in the game. You are technically relying on another mechanic(punch) to dodge the pillar. It was like Titan ex, any kind of lag will get people kill.
Maybe derailed from what people discuss about but I like Sephirot because it's skill name same with Tales of the Abyss cities name. How nostalgic they bring those name again :)
my static had like 2 days on him. And we all had the flu, so we didn't perform great. We only raid Sat, Sun, Mon, so our next Seph ex raid is tomorrow. But I'm holding fine. Heard that worlds best already cleared all of Midas Savage, so I figured we'll manage in these 6 months. So I'm not too much in a hurry :)
For 1 week I kept trying to find people with same exp at me in PF.. Some had, most didnt know the right fully well. So I gave up and went with static instead. We killed it 3x within arround 15 tries last tuesday ^^(every try bellow 25% and some fails at 5%- due to deaths t_t). That boss is actually easy if everyone knows whole fight and plays well. (And soon at i230 it's gonna be totally easy mode. Atm we're i212-217)
But yes on pf.. ? Dam no chance. Thordan is easier in terms of collaboration and even so most farm parties on pf always have ppl dying, so imagine sepiroth.
I'm on Malboro, and a lot of groups have it on farm. Unfortunately, I tried learning as BRD, PLD, and NIN since release, but only my PLD seen the first set of adds only once. Sadly, now, learning parties don't fill up, or the the "learning" groups only want people who are at a certain phase in the fight.
It may be one of those things, for the first time, where I may need to wait for it to be nerfed or echoed.
That's probably what's killing your group. You don't use Pillar of Mercy to dodge Yesad.
Stand in the blue circle and after the green flash, run out of the blue circle. The timings are too different to use the punch to dodge the pillars.
Yesad goes off a split second before Pillar of Mercy, so like you said, lag will kill the person, but never rely on Pillar of Mercy for Yesad, you have to bait and move first for that one.
Holding up fine.
I just haven't found the time to put forth more practice than with my static, and we are doing more than just SephEx at this time.
Non-static times are filled with other goals.
As a blm I can say that it's possible to go full dps all p1. Reached p3 before with close to 1800 dps. (Got pic if you think it's a lie). Even during p3 if you time well with enough cast speed you can finish casts before dodging green, and swiftcast during heavy movements such as earthshaker and circles.
It's really relative lol. Yeah hard to optimizate but once you manage to, you can do as much dmg there as agaisnt a dummy in a perfect run.
Btw.. There's a safe spot on left and right side, you can simply dps there until green expands (then Dodge for 2-3 seconds and bk to dps). Or you can have ppl with thered on right side of boss and you on left side(while you're nearby you won't get hited and this way you can full dps. Tested that the other day).
Tried it again asking for P3 Experience through 2 loops this time
4-5 people were mentors
People with green tethers running away
People going crazy when they get Earth Shaker not going to their respective side
People running off the sides "lol oops"
I might actually have to resort to begging farm parties to let me in.

Well my server is showing some hope, I think we had the clear in the bag finally. 13% at the 2nd rotation, first earth shakers then a DPS with it stops behind the group wiping all the dps and 1 healer there. Had to use the LB to bring em all back but did no good, popped my defense, jumped in my tower and splat.
I'd say go for a mentor ... but lol you're better better off with PF
I've only been able to go into two learning parties as a tank. First as OT while everyone tried to get use to phase 1. Second time I ended up learning main tanking and wound up in colors phase more frequently. It's getting there but I'm starting to wish there was some kind of audio communication feature in game for certain content. Makes knowing that single orbs location easier. Otherwise I'm confident for everything up through adds into Green Peace, or whatever that move is when he gets big. Only made it into avoiding knockback circles into green domes with out going off the edge once.
Otherwise I've already seen one guy with the green bird (leaves for the effect) I assume was from him.
Nowhere near to clear this. Formed two learning parties, one last week, one yesterday/today.
Last week's mt was the shit, I loved him, and due to my shitty memory I don't remember his name. He moved fast when it was needed for the orbs and did not die miserably. Thanks to this tank I managed to grasp stuff to the point of surviving some stuff.
Today's, well, he was so slow I got caught in the orbs because I trusted someone that "I got to 30%", later I was told this was the tank that ragequit my fc mate's static. We died everytime after the orbs, and the he leaves the party with "sorry, I'm tired/sleepy".
Result: one player blacklisted for dishonesty and me getting fed up of learning parties. It seems this community only knows how to deal with fights if they read guides first. Then they will want adventure and difficulty like in XI. Seriously tho, I have given up this fight XD
PS: it's actually adding up to other PF issues with ppl trying to get carried, just overall derpyness, or "I did this" lies. I get pf can be a wonder but it offputs me a lot.
Jeez! is this that bad i PF? mechanically its alot more simple than Thordan EX but then again one death in last phase can easily start a snowball effect that wipes whole party. I have never really used PF so i dont know how things are going in there, i have heard all these horror stories so i will stick with my team instead. My suggestion would be that if you find even remotely good group in PF you should add them(good ones)on your firend list or form some kind of "EX primal" LS for this and future fights, doing EX and Raids is alot more fun with peoples you know so it will be win-win ^^
Depends on the server I guess but I'm honestly pretty surprised at Tonberry.
I'm not gonna server hop because I love this place too much but eh, you're right about it being really simple, phase 3 you see everything you've seen it all, nothing is random except for who gets green and orange icons.
Last night helped a friend to clear with 4 ppl premade. First team didn't work out so disbanded and started new and took along the random tank because he was defo worth it second team took the full timer but we cleared it in the end with 3 firsttimers... went to farm (let in another firsttimer) and had 4 kills 1 wipe, then reformed again with a new heal (firsttimer) - we oneshot but after that the healer kept wiping us. After that called it.
I don't have any issues to give people a spot in a farm if they do their job. "replace as needed" that is either a bonus or somone with 552365422 kills. The one wiping us gets a warning then the boot - well I ask them to leave simple as that.
It is getting farmable on Cerby atm so yea good hopes for this trial :)
6 hours and our static finally mastered it. At 4 hours we had hit a 3% Enrage so I donated about 1mil in gil to update our gear, and taught them the strategies to maximize DPS (The dragoon picked up a few skills from me after I went dragoon for a round, such as a well-timed spineshatter during the fist knockbacks and being greedy with DPS on the front-right if we sweep the tethers to the left. Good things like that.)
Gotta say I'm pretty proud of them at the moment. They're definitely not the kind of people that are ever gonna be world first, but they're devoted. They worked their butts off to get it down and learn it.
What I hate the most is everytime I fail I'll have to start over from the first phase. This fatso god wannabe was so weak in FFVI.
I joined a total of 2 learning parties and mastered the fight within 2 hours. Got my clear the very same day and can now do it in my sleep as any job of the trinity and teach others.
The very first learning party was a bust on first phase so I'm not counting most of that time towards my actual "learning". If we are talking about total time spent in there it would be 6 hours.
I subbed in for a friend's static so they can get me a clear for the sake of having another person to farm with. I made the mistake of not jumping on this early. In this game, if you don't do high end content quickly, you will almost always get left behind if you lack a static and that ticks me off.
Today I got to giant phase within 3 or 4 wipes of people learning the fight. Once we disbanded a tank came in and after a single wipe, he was one of those who died, he ragequits.
Party finder can be either a great experience or a shitty one. At least I learned more today.
We cleared tonight after a few hours of doing it with the same people we lost our nin and subbed in a blm (was a 6/8 FC group). We one shot it with the blm next pull now we just gotta farm it for our weapons for Midas savage next week :/ bleh.
Ended up moving to Masamune temporarily to see if I can find a party to help me clear with.
Feel no better than the NA's that server hop for clears but I just wasn't getting anywhere with these "Aim to clear" groups which translates to "Please carry me through phase 3" Had people join my party in Tonberry before I moved who didn't believe me when I said 4 DPS can get the orange icon and low and behold it happened.
Yeah I know this is extreme levels of salty.
