SPOILER cos I don't know how to do the swish click thing.
I hope she's dead but I doubt it.
More Sephirot!
The masked boy that's not Elidibus:
I loved the line he used here at the end of the quest: "if our purposes align, what does it matter?" Kind holds out hope that there is something more in his involvement. He's honestly surprised that he's in the fold as much as he has, but sooner or later he's going to come clean(or he'll not, but the clues will be noticed). Hopefully maniacal laughter and "It's me Austin!" will not be involved when it does, I like him.
The Radicalization of the Scions:
Yda and Papalymo seem to be going down the same road as the others, albeit in a more isolated setting. Was this the true intention of removing Minfillia? She clearly isn't quite the crystal mouthpiece she wanted to be, but without her inspiring guidance, the other Scions seem to be becoming more hardliners for Hydelyn(as in, making the Scions not for Eorzea, but for Hydelyn.), when it was Hydelyn that took her away to begin with.
Also, Derplander and his crew seem to have a particular ire for Y'shtola...we never really did got an explanation of why Flow would rob her of sight, particularly if it was used in the past. or why Thancred is not also magically blinded.
There was so much staring and smiling back and forth that I did think I would faint. Aymeric please my heart can't take this. And then even Thancred starts shipping and I just. I can't.
It also makes me fear for Aymerics fate. Right now he's being set up as a second Haurchefant. A character that is relatively neutral towards us at first and grows to like you, and who might meet a rather terrible fate. I get the impression he is developing feelings for the WoL as well, but even when not reading between the lines he calls you a true friend so at the very least he thinks very dearly of the WoL (in a friendship way). Then there is the fact that his injury did come back after all. I kept expecting him to topple over after the grand melee. In fact I was so focussed on that, that other things took me by surprise.
Thancred says it's love. Not sure why we're rejecting him, though. I personally just hope Lucia doesn't get jealous. We need her for the Garlemald expansion. Pretty sure she'd go for a threesome.
He offers to buy the WoL a drink after it's all over, but that face the WoL has after is less elated and more "Dammit, Aymeric, did you just death flag?" I have a sinking feeling he's trying to work himself to death because he believes he can't become a part of the new Ishgard after what he did to his father. We seem to finally be past the chapter of the saga where we'd stand by and nod while stuff like that happens, so Lucia will need to smack him, if that's the case. Maybe even Emannelain after this latest episode.
Yeah, I could almost hear Neptune in my head saying "Yep, that's a death flag. Way to go." Our cringe there definitely seemed to be because the last time we had a drink with a politician/friend, it was Ul'dah.
I got exactly the opposite from that scene than most of you. It was a bit cold on Aymeric's part to suggest it so soon (in-universe it hasn't been that long) after the events that essentially changed our lives. He knows what happened there, unlike Emmanallain who constantly promises you a drink, so Aymeric could have shown a bit more tact.
Alex's new storyline has some lines about how purely focusing on the future is self-destructive, so I do think Aymeric is poised to make some mistakes. He's been pretty squeaky clean and pristine so far. Too much so, really.
Yes I'm mentioning CT again, because the stories are very similar, but it's kind of amazing how many times in this patch Mide said things that were (indirectly) backhanded comments on how CT story went down. Where G'raha was "I've realized I want to be with you, but I can't because this is my destiny and the goal of my ancestors, so even though I only just found out about it, I have to give up everything to do this," Mide seems to have experienced that same arc and come to the opposite conclusions: "Alexander was my ancestors' dream, not mine. I realized too late I cared more about the journey with my companions. We have to consider the means used to achieve the end we seek." Etc. Like she's read my posts on CT and agreed it was trash (or just hacked the follow-up script I wrote myself off my hard drive, which Emannelain might as well have been reading off of over in MSQ-land.)
Yoshida has frequently brought up (fairly specifically) that Void Ark is not a continuation of the CT saga when asked about raid continuity, and we've technically carried over three characters from there, so what if...?
And with this post, I'm also saying that Mide has redeemed herself in my eyes. She and Roundrox need to have shiny hunting adventures together.
I think it is Aymeric idealistic attitude. It has its merits, and its infectious, but it is also getting him into trouble. Our character wants to believe in that, but this time it isn't without struggle. We've been burned more than a few times on our own trusting nature, and its starting to show.
I honestly thought I was reading too much into it until Thancred said what he did. Probably sarcasm, but I don't think Celie here would mind if there was some truth to it.
Not related to the MSQ directly, but speaking of romantic development, there's a certain pairing among the group of NPCs in the Rising Stones that have had something developing the last couple patches, and reached a rather comedic moment. Poor Clemence.
Back on topic...
The Word of the Mother situation...I think regardless of whether we can fully trust her when it comes to Minfilia, or some other things, it seems her actions are born out of desperation.
And now we know the stakes as well...if Zodiark wins this time and causes another Rejoining, then that's it.
Of course, even a generally benevolent goddess could become dangerous when pushed to the brink.
As a side note, I think her "playing favorites" like with Krile was not simply a case of her choosing to save one, but that she could only save one with how weakened she had become.
Did anybody else notice that Thancred's markings on his neck were glowing in multiple cutscenes near the end?
Also who the heck was the mask-guy in the post-story cutscene?
In regards to the mysterious white robed figure...I think he's playing us like fools if he is aligned with Elidibus. At the end of 3.1 Elidibus states something about the Garleans 'playing their part'. I suspect that they were deliberately lured to Azyz Lla - given that they knew what Thordan was planning - so they would either release and/or destroy the Triad. Thus I firmly believe that the Garlean's expansion and aggression is manufactured by Ascian design. I also believe that we are doing the wrong thing by releasing and defeating Sephirot. I suspect that all the energy dispersed isn't going back to Hydaelyn. Perhaps it'll even be infused into Regula somehow?
I'll be saddened if the Emperor ends up dying just to have another war of succession so that Ala Mhigo can be 'liberated'. If we actually ally with Garlemald itself, however, or at least the more moderate aspects of it and kill a considerable amount of aggressive Ala Mhigans I will be happy.
I genuinely, 100% do not see how Unukalhai cannot be associated with Elidibus. It's in his name. SE isn't even trying to hide it. It's more of an issue if he's actually Elidibus, or just one of Elidibus' servants. If it's the latter, we might be in for some really interesting developments regarding sympathetic Ascians. If it's the former, yay, more Second Best Ascian.
Forgive me for going all squealy fangirl on you, but I need to post this (and I'm doing a 180 on my serious topic above and I apologize, but I need to get it out sooner rather than later so I don't derail another thread about it):
Unukalhai is adorable.
You can tell he's just completely and utterly baffled by the way you trust him, even when we have absolutely no reason to. You've even been directly warned against it. Yet the WoL (rather foolishly) ignores those warnings, even as Krile probes into his intentions. He's just all awkward and doesn't know how to respond to your trust despite your suspicions.
I genuinely don't think it could be cuter. Maybe if he was a minion that followed me around. . .
Completely unrelated but...Calcabrina didn't seem to 'die' after being defeated. We simply dispersed them - which makes me suspect and hope that they'll show up again in a future dungeon. They did that with the Kraken boss, after all.
I'm happy that some things happen to your character and felt less doll like this time around in terms of doing stuff.
Yap also the last boss of Amdapor City (the angel statue) could also make a comeback. It didn't shutter or disappear just went into "sleep" again.
I also started confusing about Hydaelyn. The way she forced Minfilia to an unnecessary sacrifice it just didn't let a good taste in my mouth. I'm a bit upset and angry with mother crystal. She could have speak to us at any time but she didn't. Instead she decided to make Minfilia an empty vessel for her likes for "reasons". The whole cutscene felt really wrong in away. Something wasn't right. I'm starting questioning about her motives and goals. 3.2 had a really good story which created many feelings and doubts. In the end it left me with a bitter taste.
I'm not convinced it was unnecessary. She told us she's lost the last seven rejoining, and she was so weak she had to hijack Y'shtola's 'Flow' to even get Minfilia to her. Either she's conning us all, or she's basically about to shatter, though the conversation left more questions then answers. Seek what? I assume she meant to have a longer conversation with us, but didn't have the energy. And I am hopeful that perhaps returning Matoya's Eye might return Minfilia to her true self. Right before she 'shattered', her eyes seemed to change from their vacant, doll like expression to her more human one. And of course Midgarsomer is absent again. I feel he could have given us some answers. Just feels like no one is telling us anything...
Or maybe we can now summon a Minfilia-Primal.
To be honest, I feel as if Hydaelen isn't being completely honest with us. The story she told may very well explain Zodiark, but what she said before Minfilia shattered was somewhat troubling.
Hydaelen told us that The Ascians can be suffered no longer, so the supposedly benevolent, life giving Mother Crystal has just told the Warrior of Light that we need to outright destroy The Ascians. The way this message is given seems wrong, and I think that Alphinaud recognized that.
As for Minfilia being used as a vessel? She was the perfect candidate. Minfilia has, if you've been paying attention, acted more like some tempered follower than a voluntary believer. Also, Hydaelen's story about Zodiark placed a lot more of the blame on him than her. If Light and Darkness used to be one, why would Hydaelen be so opposed to becoming whole again? It seems to me that Hydaelen is trying to maintain her autonomy rather than rejoin with Zodiark and become whole again.
Didn't the Word of the Mother specifically mention how Hydaelyn had grown so weak that she couldn't really communicate with us anymore? The whole thing felt like it was staged to get us to directly seek out Hydaelyn after Ultima had weakened her. She directly intervened at Val to save Krile, since Krile had the knowledge to figure half this stuff out. Sent Minfilia back to get sucked up in Y'shtola's Flow so Minfilia could brought before her, knowing full well that we'd eventually try to find Minfilia and find our way there.
Not that effectively sacrificing Minifilia is a good thing, but what other options were there? It was sacrifice Minfilia, or let her (and thus the Scions) bumble around in the dark unable to even hear Hydaelyn anymore... Not that 3.2 has really changed any of that... We got an abridged cosmic-history lesson and she cut off before the most important part... Guess we can just go question old Middy for the rest... I'm not really left questioning her goals though, just her methods... I might wonder why she didn't just tell us all this back when she was powerful enough to do so (like at the start of the game...), but by her own account she has failed to prevent the Rejoining several times before... I can imagine a situation where one group of Warriors of Light got the whole info dump at the start of their quest, and it eventually panned out badly, so Hydaelyn refrained from telling us too much at once...
Actually, my money is on exactly that having happened... Perfect back story for the Warriors of Darkness, really...
I mean when it really comes down to it... Hydaelyn doesn't come across as the cosmic good guy... She banished Zodiark to the moon (just once, can a moon just be a moon?) and messed up reality in the process... Would be kind of hard to sell that as a good thing, were it not for the fact that we're essentially a product of that... It would be like "aliens" visiting us and going "Hey, sorry to bother you, but your universe was meant to be a single dense mass, everything after the Big Bang was a mistake... We need to rejoin it, you understand right?", I mean sure I'd understand, but like hell would I just bend over and let existence as I know it end...
For me it made the bitter taste go away. Up until now, we never questioned the "cost," even when it seemingly came out of nowhere and didn't actually buy anything. "We" always told ourselves it was "the only way," even at times when it very clearly wasn't. I'm really glad someone besides me has decided to call BS, because (as a silent protagonist) I was never going to be able to on my own.
Do we know what actually happened to Val? Much like Doma it was destroyed off screen and details are few and far between. That Krile alone survived is...dubious. The Scions claim to have lost much but in reality they're very lucky - which makes their push towards extremism rather unsettling. Aymeric's motivation for the 'unity' of Ishgard is questionable as well. If war against Garlemald breaks out he'll be throwing Ishgardian lives away in the name of 'Ishgardian glory' purely to stop his people from rising up to question the status quo. The poor are still downtrodden. The nobility are still calling the shots. It makes me wonder why Hilda is so keen to work alongside him given that the people of the Brume are still starving and freezing to death whilst the luckier Ishgardians continue on as normal.
Hydaelyn may not be all good. She IS Mother but where there is life there is death and where there is light there is darkness. That is why the crystals were once one.
I am wondering if the Ascians are attempting a Rejoining because they think it will create balance where there currently is none. They may not be all evil in their ultimate agenda. I mean Mr. Laughing-Bad (Lahabrea) was clearly evil and loved it, I respect him for that, but Elidibus seems willing to actually engage people in real conversations. He strikes me as someone who knows a whole lot about what's actually happening behind the curtain.
Which may be why Urianger is willing to listen to him
We were this close to being able to make our own judgment calls about what to do from here on. With Urianger taking history lessons from Eldibus, we already had a source of cosmic truth, and somehow I highly doubt Minfilia would have sat around as a useless figurehead during our time in Ishgard. The Eorzean Alliance is kind of her baby. She was also beginning to have doubts after losing Moen, not to mention Eldibus was willing to talk openly with her, so whatever Hydaelyn's motives, she effectively beheaded us for the sake of keeping us on the path we were on. That's... shady.
I was totally on edge during the ceremony with Vidofnir and Aymeric, like, "things are running smoothly, too smoothly..." and after the shrill of our favorite possessed dude... there it was, the party-crasher and someone brought to the edge of death.
Honestly speaking, the grand melee was quite fun, I can see it as a mini game to play anytime in the future, but I thought it was a huge waste of time to the main story. I might have to look back on it again, but I didn't quite catch the importance of the grand melee within the midst of the return of conquest-over-the-dragons that lass stirred.
Were we? What makes Elidibus playing us any better than Hydaelyn? I mean that is all that was happening before... We weren't finding out the truth, we were being told the truth as Elidibus sees it, he is no more a trustworthy source than the Word of the Mother... I'd much rather have both accounts, to be honest... At least then I can side with who I want to side with... Had Hydaelyn done nothing? She couldn't communicate with us anymore. We'd have been left relying on Elidibus for Cosmic History 101, which is almost certainly going to be a bias account... That's basically game over for her, and seeing as the Rejoinings seem to correlate to Calamities... Well, I suspect it wouldn't be game over for us, I imagine the Echo grants us some safety from cosmic rebalancing, but it would almost certainly be game over for Eorzea as we know it, and most of the people therein...
Until Elidibus sets about building an orphanage or something, the Ascians will continue to be utterly unredeemable in my eyes. Not once have they done a single good thing, just constant dickery... Sucks for them that Hydaelyn banished Zodiark and ruined the universe. This is my universe now though, like hell I'm going to let them destroy it... In their eyes I'm sure we're the villains, the ones who ruthlessly destroyed the universe and insist on having pointless struggles with each other, but in my eyes, if they're not the ones directly responsible for starting such struggles, they're certainly adding fuel to the fire... These are the guys who went to a mourning Tiamat, tricked her into summoning a corruption of her beloved, and then told the Ascians how to trap him and enslave the entire brood... They're dicks, no two ways about it really, I don't care if my universe existing destroyed theirs...
Personally I think the grand melee was to give us a taste of pvp. Getting points for killing enemies, and more points for some? Yep that sounds like The Feast. Not that I mind, it was a fun duty. I wonder if you can lose it?
The importance of the melee was to show the Ishgardians that there is an 'enemy' to unite them. Although this enemy would be whoever the alliance stands against (probably Garleans). While a bit far-fetched there is reasoning behind it.
Ishgard is one big boiling pot of class problems waiting to happen. The only thing that kept the commoners and nobles united was their war against the dragons. However if there would be a peace treaty with the dragons the war would end and there would be nothing for those who used to fight, and nothing to unite the two classes. A large part of the commotion at Falcons Nest was because a commoner was shot by (order of) a noble. In the eyes of the commoners proving that they would continue to be suppressed.
The Grand Melee showed that Ishgards forces (commoners and nobles united) could hold their own again enemy forces. That they could stand united against something other than the dragons. Even if the Alliance was a mock enemy, the display apparently worked. Just don't ask me how, I agree that the logic it is a bit wobbly. Anyway, the end result is that those who got doubts after the Falcons Nest Incident had renewed faith in a peace treaty.
I don't think we can be friends anymore.
I actually didn't feel like the Scions were questioning Hydaelyn as much as they should have. They are sad because Minfilia is not longer Minfilia, but they didn't really ask the hard questions. Why was it required? Why did it happen? What is going to be expected of the Warrior of Light, if this was asked of Minfilia? Has Hydaelyn asked this of others, past or present? Will She ask for sacrifice again when Her energy dwindles?
The line that irritated me most, I think, was something akin to "Minfilia was always closest to Hydaelyn." Even said regretfully, it was disturbing, as if because she was closest, it's expected for her to be chosen as one of Hydaelyn's tools.
And do you know what that means?
We're next.
Hey, maybe Elidibus did set up an orphanage, Kidibus had to come from somewhere, right?
Hydaelyn isn't even the one we should be questioning... Both Hydaelyn and Elidibus are obviously bias to their own side.
You know who I trust right now? Midgardsormr.
We have Hydaelyn banishing Zodiark to the moon, and that creating "our" universe. Midgardsormr came from space and formed a contract with Hydaelyn to dwell here. You know what that suggests to me? That before our universe, we had Hydaelyn, Zodiark, and Midgardsormr, and likely plenty more. Hydaelyn banished Zodiark and changed everything, and Midgardsormr (and whoever else) got caught in the cross fire. I'm far more interested in his account and opinions at this point than Ascian or Hydaelyns...
I think the Scions as a whole are going to become much darker. Thancred and Y'shtola seem to be heading in that direction and we can safely assume that Yda will be too if she's throwing her lot in with the Ala Mhigan Resistance. Alphinaud appears to be the voice of reason - and I suspect that Krile may side with him. I'm worried for Krile since she also possessed the Echo. Will she, too, be expected to sacrifice herself? I have to wonder if Hydaelyn pushed Ysayle in that direction. Imagine how twisted it would be if she exploited Ysayle's guilt as a means of encouraging her to sacrifice herself?
Yes, but it's interesting to note that even though the seventh Calamity failed, the Rejoining apparently went off without a hitch. Which means perhaps there was a way all along for Rejoining to take place without the massive death toll that resets humanity. Sure, the Ascians did it anyway, but do we have any idea what they're even fighting for? Were they once like us, simply deciding it was "the only way"? Can we really tell Ishgard to forgive and start mending bridges when we aren't willing to do the same?
By their own account, to return the world to how it once was. The implications of that statement are... less than pleasant, and they've given me no reason to doubt otherwise, Elidibus is the only one who seems remotely sane, the rest seem to enjoy destruction and messing with people...
Ishgard isn't forgiving Nidhogg any time soon... The wyrm is technically already dead, even if we change their mind so we can save Estinien, and his brood is our source of crafting materials for eternity...
All we've gotten Ishgard to do is accept their history for what it is, and not lump all Dravanians together. I'll gladly accept that Hydaelyn screwed over Zodiark and the Ascians, but if the world as we know it is the result? I'm not going to let them destroy it. Worst case, Hydaelyn mirrors Thordan. The people of Ishgard could wonder what would be had Thordan not betrayed Dravania, or they could do the sensible thing and just get on with their lives... They could also go "Well, fairs fair, go ahead and destroy us then Nidhogg!", but that's equally insane...
I'll build bridges with Ascians when it becomes apparent that they aren't just immortal (and immoral) pricks. Elidibus and Kidibus are the closest we're getting to that at the moment though... I mean really, we're going to get uppity at Hydaelyn for sacrificing Minfilia, and then just roll over and accept the mountain of sh*t the Ascians have caused? Too our knowledge (the important part here), Hydaelyn has sacrificed one person for her means. Where do I even begin counting how many have been screwed over by the Ascians?
I think the best we can do is keep the Ascians from moving their plans any further until some independent third party can confirm that we can still survive in the restored world, FF5-style. If we can, great! If we can't... well... then we're back at square one but no longer have any illusions about what we're really fighting for.
Alphinaud is going to try and save Estinien from Nidhogg's control... I think Aymeric will still want to kill him regardless, and possibly build his peace over his dead friend even if we succeed in saving Estinien. if there was a situation that could truly cause a schism among the Scions as they are now, that would be it.
It's been a long time since I screamed at a character for anything in any game/anime. I wasn't expecting Estinien to show up so soon and dive on Vidofnir's back....NOOOOO HOW COULD YOU!!!??? Although it was actually Nidhogg's doing, he almost runied everything that the meeting stood for.
I think the main thing that bothers me, after some thought, is how Hydaelyn called Minfilia back into Flow and spirited her away to theAstralAetherial Sea, knowing she had nothing she could do there but sacrifice herself or listen to whatever Hydaelyn had to say. That's... extremely shady. Yet everyone looks at it as if Minfilia sacrificed herself of her own will... stuck in the Aetherial Sea, what else could she do...?
... we did not fail Minfilia. Thancred did not fail her. Even Teledji's slimy ass did not cause this. This is Hydaelyn's direct fault. She is the only one responsible, and she is the only one that should be held accountable. Would that we had the opportunity to call her out on it...
...
We may never get Minfilia back. In that case... well, I'm already fighting for selfish wishes, and am glad to see Alphinaud is finally starting to be more genuine in that regard. No more accepting sacrifices as necessary. We will look for a better way. Even if we have to fight and kill, and perhaps die, we will not accept killing and dying as the only solutions. If we just had the opportunity to talk... if we knew the whole truth... and made a decision...
Well, at least the Vath have not lost any of their endearing naivete and curiosity. They started their own Aventurers' Guild!
It's not like they killed off Vidofnir or Honoroit. It's hardly 'Game of Thrones' style misery. They also outright stated in advance that this expansion would be darker than the last - and honestly I find that rather refreshing when there's an abundance of lighthearted MMO's out there. It's not as if they shy away from humour either. :p

Minfilias future?
I worry about what is going to happen
If we can't find a way to get Minfilia back
Or if we start to question Hydaelyn too much for her liking
The thing about gods and immortal beings..
Is they have very different perceptions of good and evil
If they view them as even existing, look at dragons, or primals
It will be interesting to see what happens next
The ascians are complicated.. but after everything that they have done they are still firmly in the "you are evil and must be destroyed" category, where they shall remain until they give a reason to justify all of the /horrible/ things they have done.
I also worry for my scions x.x I really don't want to end up fighting against them but if they turn fanatic.. that will be awful.. Y'shtola is one of my favorite characters T^T
As for Aymeric.. <3 love you love, but don't get yourself killed by getting interested in the warrior of light x.x Minfilia, Ysayle, Haurchefant.. i swear even mild love interest winds up in a bad position.. or dead. Its no wonder that the warrior of light is getting ptsd over simple things like "lets get a drink" at this point..
....when do we get to romance Lucia? >.> she can handle herself..
Just got this idea from a Discord chat...
*after the grand melee*
Thancred: "So after that distraction, I got stuck with... looks down at pudgy puk at feet this thing..."
Thancred: "Pray tell, how do you deal with these things following you everywhere?"
WoL: silent muttering
Thancred: "Seven hells! You mean to tell me you have hundreds? And you spend hours farming dungeons you've cleared for more? By the Twelve...
So devs, this would be nice to see after the pony mounts got an in game cutscene. My minions need in game mention love lol.
I think Lucia is more likely to bite it compared to Aymeric. Perhaps by enduring an attack meant for Aymeric. With that said, however, 4.0 is supposedly separate from 3.0 so I could see Aymeric being written off by being given a tragic death or just being completely tied down by Ishgardian affairs.
So. We regained the Blessing and used it at the end of 3.0 (if not after, such as Sephirot).
Think of this another way:
We've been using Minfilia's lifeforce as a battery to power ourselves. Hydaelyn was already waning throughout 2.X, it was apparently Minfilia that gave her that little boost that strengthened our Blessing against Best Ascian and his sidekick.
I'm suddenly quite disturbed about this Warrior of Light thing. Maybe Hydaelyn won't ask us to sacrifice ourselves, but ask others sacrifice themselves for our power.
Is the Blessing constantly draining Hydaelyn? I figured she spent some power to give us the Crystals (given Matoya's Crystal Eye is a Crystal of Light from a bygone era...) and we just harness that power. She gave us a lump sum of power up front, and we tap into that, rather than draining her constantly. Whether regaining the Blessing required new Crystals or was just us rediscovering our old ones follow Middy blocking them is up for debate, I guess.
Come to think of it... Is Hydaelyn perhaps just a really big Crystal of Light? The Mother Crystal, I mean... The Word of the Mother did say the Crystals power is spent... So the Mother Crystal is done now? This is why I'm having a hard time viewing Hydaelyn in a bad light... She is seemingly powerless at this point... After shielding us from Ultima (such and evil thing to do!) she helped us save Thancred by giving us a Blade of Light, she saved Krile, told Minfilia to run back so she could hijack Flow, and explained some stuff to us before finally running out of power and sending us back as her final act... I mean sure, sacrificing Minfilia isn't nice, but it seems more like an act of desperation to me... How the Scions react is questionable, but I can hardly fault Hydaelyn for that, and I can hardly complain at Hydaelyn sacrificing one person, when Ascians have a body count beyond counting... The alternative was to quietly fizzle out and let Elidibus have free reign to corrupt us, at least now we can have two accounts of things...
