I feel like more Berserk macros should yell "GRIFFIIIIIIIIITH....!" But maybe that's just me.
My BRD friend told me a Berserk macro is nice to have but only an announcement to start it so the BRD can drop his Esuna Skill somewhen in his rotation on you. I don't have a macro and tanked some stuff on WAR and sometimes he noticed my zerk timing sometimes not and its really sweet if he gets it ;_; - Thinking of making a macro for when paired with BRD.
I wouldn't ever use a macro for battle reasons regardless.
I main war, used to have macros for tanks swaps, holmgang use, and berserk. Thanks to the way macros activate, I found them all ill-suited. I'm happily macroless now.
I hate the obnoxious "oww look at me I'll be pacified in N seconds" TONS OF NOISE macros... I'll simply ignore most. But I've did one thing for when raiding with my team(and I might use it elsewhere as well).
I have a macro:
/ac the warden's paean <6>
That way I can squeeze the ogcd without interrupting my rotation. Of course this only works if I get a simple "Berserk up!" macro. But it's just like the the flaming arrow - it means I don't need to position/search stuff and can use it as a fast ogcd.
If I could see berserk easily on wars I'd prob use it more often but it's often on spot 6+ so not visible in the party list.
I've conditioned myself as a healer not to be annoyed by it as I'm actively watching buffs/debuffs and don't need a reminder. But I realize all healers may not be as observant and watching for it. I try to get berserk off as long as I'm not handling a mechanic, doing needed healing or spreading dots. It's worth getting off the tank if I'm in broil spam. I'm never standing around doing nothing but in that case a healer better get it off the tank.
I use a simple "Berserk used. Pacification in 20 seconds." macro with no sound effects because the bard I usually run with requested it after the 3.2 changes to Warden's happened. I still use it even with PUGs because it really does help.
To the healers/bards who won't cleanse JUST because a macro was used: you are the reason why Berserk isn't used more. The Warrior is doing something improve the group's synergy and communication and you decide to ruin that out of spite? Believe me, Pacification is much more annoying than a message or two in the chat, even if a sound effect is used.
Sure, let the Pacification hit if you have more important things to worry about, but ignoring out of spite is simply petty. Chances are you won't get my commendation if I think you are doing that.
On the flip side, if you are a Bard who is on it with Warden's and does your job well otherwise, you may just win out the healer for my comm. I love a good Bard.
If a WAR isn't using Zerk just because they're not getting cleansed then they're bad and need to fix things on their end first. There's absolutely no reason to blame a healer or bard for not cleansing pacification. If you time your rotation properly you should be negating 2.5 seconds of the pacification by having your last hit go off just as pacification lands. You can also mix in a Brutal Swing and/or Mercy Stroke if the enemy is low enough.
Having pacification cleansed is a luxury, not a necessity.
I would say that most of the Warriors who would quit using Berserk due to healers and Bards not cleansing are likely inexperienced. However, I was talking about Healers and Bards who have no reason not to cleanse but don't because for some reason macros offend them contributing to such inexperienced Warrior deciding (incorrectly) that the ability is more trouble than it is worth.
I take more issue with a presumably experienced player deliberately making their tank's life more difficult than someone who hasn't had much Warrior experience making poor decisions based on their limited experiences. Yes, an experienced Warrior knows how to make the most of Berserk with or without a cleanse. That doesn't mean that it is any less immature to ignore a reasonably set up macro because a healer or Bard doesn't like being told what to do.
While this is awfully passive aggressive, here's an idea to healers who find berserk macro offending. Have a macro that casts your healing/shield bubble with "/p casting sacred soil/asylum. Please stand inside the shield/regen bubble". Start using that macro if the party tank uses berserk macro. See how it goes from there. It doesn't actually hinder anyone's play, but if they do take offense of it, you can point out it feels the same as their berserk macro.
Regardless of having time to cleanse pacification or not, it's not their responsibility. Pacify isn't going to kill you if it's not removed. Berserk macros (unless specifically asked for by a static member) are unnecessary and most times completely obnoxious. They're right up there with the 10-15 second pull macros that announce something every second with all the bells and whistles.
I can tolerate a very simple one announcing when it's activated, I don't need nor want any more than that honestly. I can sometimes find it quite obnoxious to see it used with randoms and I would never do it myself. I liked the support aspect Bard offered so I was happy to use it even before the revamp happened, regardless of the fact that it was probably less efficient. I was just happy to relieve them of an annoying debuff - though that doesn't change the fact that I can find certain macros quite annoying.
I suppose it's on par with people who tell you to LB the final boss well before it's even needed, almost as though you needed the reminder ahead of time. Personally, I don't like when people don't bother using LB until the last boss but I'm not actually going to bother them in the chat about it. It's not worth it.
If the berserk macro is 1 line short and simple macro I don't think it bothers most healers and bards. I just happen to see those macros with 5+ lines with all sound effects added, that is when I get annoyed by it(same with pulling macros).
Thought I almost never esuna that 5 sec debuff anyways, since 2 secs is already gone to casting esuna and I can use the time much better than wasting my gcds for it (dps ftw!). Besides wars do have skills to use even when they are pacified, Brutal swing, Mercy stroke, Flash and deffensive cds say hello. And top of that as someone pointed out you can negate almost half of the debuff duration by timing your hits before it.
Bards may like the macro tho if they want to do good job, but still they don't need those 10 lines long macros to know that you have debuff.
How much the macro annoys debends a lot about the wording. Simple line that says "berserk used" is quite fine. Even if it says "berserk used, removable debuff in x seconds" it's bearable, and explains itself to those newer players who don't yet know exactly why berserk is announced. However, macros that go to "please use leeches or esuna on me in x seconds" start crossing the obnoxious line, even worse when sounds are used. They trample right over the "useful info" to "I'm telling you how to play your class"
If i'm in a group of friends i can reliably count on to remove pacification, i don't use a macro. If i'm in PF or DF you're damn right i'm using it, as through testing i've now found that 9/10 times i will not have pacify removed if i don't have the macro. Noisy - check. Reminder - check.
There's not even much excuse for it NOT to be cleansed now, we have all healer options and also paeon to remove. I'll stop using my macro (telling people to do their job essentially), when people stop not doing their roles expected task.
People shouldn't have to be asked to do their job, they should be actively looking for those things related to their role.
As a healer I don't mind a macro even with an se. Most of the time though I don't cleanse it because it's such a short debuff that if anything else is going on like aoe's, a dps getting blasted or if my rotation doesn't match well it's simple not worth if I cant cleanse it immediately.
I like around a 5 sec warning and I keep an eye out for it and do what I can, a shorter notification would normally have me cutting off a stone III cast or something and if it's too much in advance then I will either waste time waiting or forget about it entirely.
I don't see why people would get so bothered by a macro it's more if the tank chooses to get mouthy about it that bothers me, but I like the heads up so I can try and help.
unless of course you use the annoying bongo se because that is just terrible and long
Simple solution to annoying macros:
Code:/micon "Esuna"
/p Don't care <se.6>
Says people shouldn't have to be asked to do their job...dies because "hur dur healer didn't pacify me so I couldn't use IB even though I have plenty of other CDs which can be used regardless of whether or not I'm pacified."
The irony is not lost on me.
All I need (as both bard and healer) is just a "used Berserk"
that's it
Why do some WARs want a whole poem in there? If this keeps up I'm macroing whole lyrics to my BRD songs.
I've seen Warriors macro their fellcleaves so people can alerted to how much their critical did with an obnoxious <se. >
Are Warriors generally the most annoying players?
Nah I am annoyed by a player on our server that <se.1>'s even a "salut" (yeah he french but doesn't matter) and a few healers are the most annoying ones on Cerby "Need mana <soundlittany>" "Used Benediction <moar sounds>" "Asylum used stand inside <nooooise need dem nooooiiisse>" "Stack up I use Cure 3 <cmon I know u like sound>"...
It's a matter of player not role...
I'm going to chime in as yet another Bard who seriously wishes that more Warriors used just a simple macro like this for Berserk:
That's all I need as a Bard to know "Oh hey, I should use Paean some time in the next 20s." Because, as others have stated, Berserk has a pitifully low priority as a buff, and by the time you see the pacify, it is often too late. Its one of those things where the UI's limitations prevent those of us who really want to optimize our Job's potential from doing so.Code:/micon "Berserk"
/ac "Berserk"
/wait
/p {Berserk} used! Pacify in 20s. <se.4>
If a tankbuster is coming, the healers should be busy topping off and shielding the tank. Adding a cleanse to the mix just runs them out of time, and choosing a cleanse rather than a shield is generally less effective at keeping the tank alive. Especially when it's the tank who controls when that pacification hits.
As a rule I never macro anything. Screws up your rotation on skills like zerk and leads to wipes on skills like HG/LD. Best to just communicate or... *gasp* deal with the pacification.
Yes please, use a macro. I main BARD and since the changes they made to Paen, it's awesome for me. I can insta-paen you without even using a GCD and you will never even be pacified...
I like WARs with Berserk Macros. Nothing Fancy... just say when it's up. It's all i need.
The way I see it, it is their job, and it is difficult to see on the ui at times. The warriors wouldn't use macros if the pacify was actually cleansed more often than not. The whole argument of "telling me how to play my class" is a bunch of care-bear bs. Too many thin skinned crybabies who think their snowflake is so special.
When i'm healing, I appreciate the ability to time my esuna.
As a bard, I appreciate the reminder that I can give free dps to the group.
If you want to play poorly and ignore the warrior, that is your business. But the effort put into coming to the forums to cry about it would be better spent HITTING YOUR CLEANSE BUTTON.
I know. It's really [redacted] obnoxious, because I use macros for some buffs that are dangerous to keep up and that I don't want to try and find in a pinch (Blood for Blood, Berserk, Raw Intuition). But, because I use said macros, it takes longer to use my abilities. I also have macros to save me some headache with binding, but again, it cuts into my DPS because macros don't work right.
Except it does matter because if you're macroing Berserk you're messing with your rotation due to how macros queue up.
If you absolutely have to have a macro then it should be a separate one that you hit that is strictly a party chat announcing that berserk is up that you hit after it's already rolling.
