On my laptop I can, but it doesn't seem to want to on my desktop. And kind of hard to see your spells and such without it.

I thought it was a artist render too, not real time actual game engine graphics.
It almost looks like it will end up more demanding, but maybe optimized this TIME lol.
At any rate, the only thing that worries me....
Cartoonish. If this ends up looking cartoony like wow I'm shooting someone. While the pic looks awesome, it also has a little cartoony feel to it, its slight, but its there. *Is worried*
If we wanted to play wow we would go play wow.
I pray to god this is not going to be cartoony as it seems in that screen, cause I'm sure people will rage. I'll join in lol.
It looks like its a quest or leve mob (noted the text under the map and the timer)
The grid in the lower right is inventory space I'm betting, colour coded to show different stuff, like armour, materials and consumables maybe.
Wouldn't surprise me if you click a grid and open that individual bag (gobby bags ? XD), im sure they plan a separate UI for PS3 and controller users.
I have no doubt that its real time, looking how good FF14 looks at the moment its easy to imagine with a better graphics engine and some added effect, better lighting and shadowing it could look that good.
Yup
Final Fantasy was doing Cartoony long before WoW.Quote:

I would actually say that over the top art and animation is a Final Fantasy trade mark, just go look at at trailer of FF13-2
Strange that no one already said: OMG glowing PLD's sword it's not realistic and doesn't fit in this game !!11!11!!!1
lol @ the realism ramblers.
If SE would follow realism rules there would be nothing 'final fantasy' in the game and the only thing players would be battling is starvation or the bubonic plague....
That look like he about to do a WS maybe that the reason. Seeing how SE done some good Glowing wep with ifrit i don't see why they would do wowish version.
I still hoping that not really ingame and if it does look Cartoonish Because then FFXIV version 1 look 100000x better then FFXIV version 2 even if look nice by many people eyes if it look like aion, rift, tera then it a downgrade and pretty much people would rage.
Um no lol. FF games have been as realistic as they could be at the time the game was made, the only except was 9 out of the main stream line. Early versions made due the best they could, but lets be honest the graphics limitations in the past hindered, and they still tried to make thing realisticlly believable despite it being fantasy.
Yes its fantasy, fantasy isn't a cartoon its a genre..... If mithras actually existed people can imagine "this" is what they would actually look like. That is what has been so special about Final Fantasy art style. Because it pulls and draws you into it by saying hey if this WAS real, I bet this would be a pretty damn good example of what this thing would actually look like. No one watches a cartoon and goes hey if this race was real (say a demon) I bet that is what they would look like.......this is not a hard concept to understand lol.
If you go play wow how many times have you said hey, if a troll actually existed i bet THIS is what it would look like. Probably none, because its car too nyyyyyy
So positive notes? it doesn't look like flat grass, the sky looks way more detailed (although current clouds at dusk are gorgeous) and I guess just more detail in general, but the style, lil less crayon, lil more pencil please.
I kind of agree. FFXIV at the moment is really subtle.
I look around the camps and hamlets and see peasants dressed in rags and old-fashioned attire, and I hope that degree of unassuming fantasy isn't lost when they try to make this game a flamboyant wreck just to appease the players that wanted "moar colours".
I mean, I'd hate to see those people's wardrobes, is all I'm trying to say.
Sometimes muted subtlety is better than flamboyant colours. (sometimes=always). I just hope they don't compromise the artistic integrity of the game in the process of trying to revamp it. There's a reason I won't be playing TERA (even though I think the combat system is a huge step forward for MMOs).
Hm I don't think they will change the entire graphic style. They try to improve it, to update the graphics to 2013. It was difficult and took a long time to implement new stuff into the game with the actual graphic engine and maybe it will be better and faster with the new. And the new areas are going to be smaller in their range but versatile and beautiful. I'm looking forward for these changes. What I don't like on this screenshot are the FFXII/FFXIII kind neon fonts and colors and the WOW stuff. But since we are able to change these things and make it a bit more neutral it's not that bad.
Maybe the situation on this screenshot is part of the content of defending Ishgard from a dragon invasion. I think I have read something like this somewhere.
I need this function in my life!
I try to play with /names off as much as possible until I become a liability to my PT. I hope the new UI helps people to play with names off.
I just hope they make a UI which i can toggle off. The best UI for me is one which I can't see, imo.
I like it, the UI looks very lively, and I probably wont be using additional apps, that looks like all I'll need.
As for graphics, I hope they do a good job optimizing! Cause its very pretty (textures and lighting can be misleading though)
The T1, A2 can't be limit break related, if you look T1s(tank) TP you'll see the its around 1500 but the red bar is full. I'm pretty sure the red bars next to names is the hate meter/gauge
Ya i agree with you 100% They should not try and add colors just for the sake of other players who like it. At the very least allow us to change the look of the game and have something close to FFXIV 1.0 and players who want more of a tera, aion feel can change the setting for more of a 2.0 feel.
I don't really like that Square is supporting addons with V2. If you play WoW you will know it's all just about who does the most damage, people spamming DPS meters all the time and if you come out on bottom you are sometimes kicked out of a group, even if you are having a good run and nobody has died if you aren't doing amazing dps you are a "noob".You are expected to download addons to join raid groups. I prefer to play a game as the developers intended I do not care for player made addons.
There is also the fact that PS3 players wont even be able to use addons so I don't think it is fair. I worry that this will separate players.
i didnt think it wasnt realtime, its not exactly insanely impressive when comparing it to graphics these days.
I have one more very important thing to say to this screenshot. The target "selector hand". I love it. I want them to implement it with 1.20. ;)
This is more Final Fantasy than anything other on the screenshot. Okay this and the chocobo.
With that said, make it more FF than into any other MMORPG. This is very important for FFXIV.
God, any change always sends the regular crowd into the, "NO, it's becoming WoW!!!!" panic mode. It looks nothing like WoW. It looks nothing like Tera. By the way, Tu'lia was so realistic, along with Lumoria, right? Oh, and how about Promyvions? Those were realistic too! No, actually, they weren't. Big floating islands in the sky is not realistic, yet FFXI had them. Huge crystals sparkling and floating are not realistic, yet both XI and XIV have had them, along with a ton of other FF games. A zone that looked like the artist was tripping on acid while watching the Frieza saga of DBZ was not realistic, yet it was in XI.
Some of you people need to get over your WoW-phobia. I have never seen another MMO's playerbase freak out as much as FFXI/V's. Realistic and boring terrain hasn't worked out so good with XIV. Now they're changing it to be more like XI's and it's suddenly "like WoW?" Please. A lot of those concept pictures remind me of XI areas, not even one reminds me of WoW. I don't know how any can look at that main new concept picture and get WoW.
As has been stated, WoW's UI is fully customizable with the use of add-ons. The picture linked earlier in this thread was one of the worst UIs I have ever seen. You can choose how much you want shown on your screen or what you want hidden. You don't even have to have the standard party frames, you can have a healing add-on that shows the party's HP in little boxes smaller than the "Top" button at the bottom of this page.
Seriously, just stop the WoW-phobia, the game is not turning into WoW.
I'd like to know what games you play "these days". Especially considering MMO graphics lag behind single player game graphics more often than not.
Further, very rarely do multiplat games use full power of new pc hardware and even rarer is that pc only games do so. The only thing making that pic worse than the screens in witcher 2 is the lack of tesselation, and that is coming post-release as well.
The graphics are incredible if they can retain the quality in that pic. Mind-blowing, nothing less.
I'm aware FF XIV is and always will be a very different game to WoW. Someone will make a DPS meter addon though and then it all just gets so competetive. Players should be working together not arguing over who is doing the most damage. Maybe it wont turn out like that. WoW has the worst community of players I have ever seen in an MMO and luckily FF XIV's community is nowhere near as rude or aggressive so hopefully it stays that way.
It is really hard to believe that is not a picture lol
Really? People are complaining about this? The style is exactly the same, it's just using the new engine in the new world. It doesn't look more like WoW or Rift or Aion, that's just a stupid comparison to make. It looks like FFXIV with better graphics (and a more optimized graphics engine). What is there to complain about?
It's not a WoW-phobia it's true tho i agree the UI look like wow then again EQ2 had the same thing. it still becoming like wow and this is what scared players. WoW is the king of MMO and that a fact even tho the game is shit and there noting really much to do beside quest, dungeon, raid,PVP it's the king due to the fact it's casual and have addon. Sadly the reason people think it becoming like wow is due to addon and from the screenshot even the art work look like a big upgrade from rift, aion, tera like.
@:Akira_Tenshi i agree this is the issue i had with WoW while doing dungeon a person loot something that he does not even need he display the DPS and said i guess i won then huh? Like having top DPS give him right to anything even the item. This happen a lot while playing wow they display there DPS saying there the best and anything you say is wrong. So playing wow myself i download the addon and try to keep my DPS at the highest and that became a job just to play a game.
Also what worst then DPS is gear score wow even made there own version you can't even enter a type of Dungeon without having a set of Gear score. /sh become 450 gear score class:???? do you need it? it became a job to have best DPS and gear within the game. I thought they said Addon would only be to changing the UI look and not really wow addon and ps3 would just have a few type of UI.
I hope they change there mind about this UI issue or at least make a world that you can't use it -.- if we getting servers for language i want one for no addon allow and seeing how PS3 users can't it's not like the world have no one in it.
If they can make it so this type of addon are not allow then i be happy even the interview the person ask the same question to yoshi-p.
I hate WoW. That said, I dislike the idea of Addons, I just think they become a necessity and make it more about math then fun and feel. Plus, not everyone can use. I hate cartoony look, so if they go that route, I am outie as well. Finally, I am not a huge fan of content finder because you lose that sense of community imo. For example, in XI you knew who the jerks or shady people were on your server and could avoid them, with this matching system you have no idea of who that person is. I think reputation matters. I think some of these concerns are the concerns of those who are afraid and are making the WoW-comparisons. Up until now this game has been our only respite from such titles.
(derp, smartphone posted this before I finished typing...)
You play XIV. You're complaining that WoW has nothing to do besides quest, dungeon, raid, and PvP? What exactly is there in XIV at the moment? We have 3 dungeons that are more like "leveling mazes" than actual dungeons along with an Ifrit battle. We have monotonous leves for quests that are not fleshed out, and side-quests that are still lacking. There are no raids, unless you're counting 1 instanced Ifrit battle, and there is no PvP.
So far, I count more things to do in WoW than XIV. WoW is king due to the fact that it can run on low end computers and is very accessible. I get it, you don't like WoW. You played it on private servers (as you stated on Eorzeapedia before) and you think it's a buggy game that looks horrible and is too easy to level up in. You played on a private server years ago. Private servers are nothing like the actual game. If you want to mindlessly bash WoW, go ahead. Just don't try to pretend that XIV has more to offer than WoW.
You said on Eorzeapedia that you played on private servers during BC. It is not hard to maximize your DPS by using a rotation or a priority list. I find it more fun than sitting around casting a spell once every 5-10 seconds so I don't pull aggro. Also, dungeon loot is need before greed. Cloth wearers cannot need anything above cloth. Leather wearers cannot need on plate and mail. Mail wearers cannot need on plate, etc.Quote:

Ilvl preventing a fresh 85 from getting into heroics when they're under-geared is one of the best things to happen to WoW. You have no business queueing for a dungeon where you will be carried and aren't contributing.Quote:

Again, there's no way combat will ever end up like WoW, whether there is a DPS meter or not. There was a parser for XI, did combat turn into WoW? No. Why? Because WoW's tanks get and hold aggro easily. XI/V tanks do not. If you're nuking a mob back to back, you're going to get maybe 3 casts before a mob is on you.Quote:

These fears are completely unfounded and if people would stop to think about WHY these addons affect WoW the way they do instead of going Chicken Little and parroting what other fear-mongers state, it would be very easy to dispel these misconceptions and see that there is no way a DPS meter could ever turn XIV into a WoW clone.
This. I have no clue what part of everyone's anatomy they're pulling this 'cartoony' idea out of, but y'all sure are good at feeding each other's imaginations. I might as well be watching a FOX News broadcast. The character models look nigh-identical to what they are now. What looks different is the hard lighting, which is likely circumstantial, just like with any other WS, spell, or specialized situation that happens now. If no one's looked up the Luminous engine, maybe you should pay Google and YouTube a visit before you start crying wolf over lack of realism. The new engine's going to put Crystal Tools to shame. Why in the world would they downgrade the graphics, people? Let's be rational here for crying out loud.
One of my reasons for not believing that this image was an actual in-game image was that one of the characters doesn't have a last name.. but I guess it could just be a NPC.
I think they might be referring to the "Braveheart" in the center screen, however it's my conclusion that P1 is Delita Heiral, and they've made it so that you don't see your own character's name floating over their head (since you know who you are), and the "Braveheart" is a temporary title, like the other party members' "Dragonslayer", "Materia Hunter", etc.
damn, amazing! I thought it was an artists rendering too. One thing though what is that choco doing there? I hope we can fight while riding our birds, not just next to them, if that's what's going on here.
Don't like addons?
Don't use them and shut the kupo up.
