One of my favourite books as a kid and young teen was Wrede's "Dealing with dragons"...as well as M.M.Kaye's "The ordinary princess".)

Well, the last I heard from that area was when her son started co-writing Pern books, and then wrote some on his own, so if she is I'd wager he holds the copyright by now and gets to set the policy (unless she left instructions or had him sign an agreement on which things he had to maintain as-is). But... chances are he'd at least for now respect her wishes in the matter. Also... if you look at US copyright laws, her creations won't be public domain until... 2080 sometime? Unless they extend the time period yet again, that is.

I'm with you on the "no profit", and I'd like to think that I'd keep to that stance should it ever happen that I published something.
