2 hours per day on week days and 4 on weekends. voila, first 50 in 2-4 weeks, first 60 in 3-6 weeks. "Current tier casual" end game in another week. Here you go.
Then you haven't seen the mass amount of relic 3.0 post, mostly negative, the mass amount of raiding posts, again mostly negative. It's been a issue that craft and gathering players haven't been utilized in the proper sense of the jobs since housing became a thing. Just look at other responses, others want to know where our money is going, some are bored, some are ok. It wouldn't hurt you to actually read instead of jumping into a reply.
A lot of people have a lot of reason to justify the monthly fee, others do not. The point of this post was to see where we are as a community and lull and behold we are at a mix on how we feel about the game, might not be the whole community, but it's still insight.
Expanding my op I think this game WAS good but the funds that should have went to this game, went to other areas of SE and our game is suffering. Yoshi did say that early HW was going to pave the foundation of later patches, but 7 months into this expansion we have a factually received less per patch then in the past AND nothing major has happened. The purpose of mmos is to continually bring more to the plate that has substance and finding fun ways to reutilize older content. How is it that the team before, were able to put out more quality content and keep older content in the loop, yet now the team is struggling?
Do I think the game should be free? No. Do I think we should payless? Yes. If our money seemingly isn't going to expand the development team to provide us with more, then the product isn't worth it's current fee. You wouldn't pay 15 for a 24 ounce steak at a restaurant then come back next month and pay 15 for a 12 ounce cut.
Eh, I'm totally fine with the current price. It's totally fair with the amount of content the game has..well..for me that is. >3>
I don't begrudge having to pay a sub fee. I would rather pay a fee than go F2P and get the drawbacks that it comes with. That being said, I don't currently think that we are getting good value for our money.
IMO the content just isn't as good as it was in ARR. Coil was far, far better than Alex. 3 dungeons per patch instead of 2. New Hildy quests every main patch. Good main story (3.1's main story was so short. All that waiting for that?). And don't get me started on the clusterf*** that is the current relic grind. Just, eurgh.
If it wasn't for the fact that my sub just auto-renewed for another 6 months I would seriously consider un-subbing for a bit and then coming back when there was actually a considerable amount of stuff to do.
if they keep releasing content like they have been, they will need to pay me to play
I think the major issues as I said earlier are that 3.1 took too long to come out, Alex fell short and the new stuff in the Diadem and LoV have failed to hit the mark.
I think the Diadem isn't completely surprising because its them trying new things so some trial and error is going to happen. Alex is something they really need to pull up on. The Gold Saucer stuff I think is more of an issue with reward than gameplay. There isn't that much worth buying with MGP that can't either easily be gotten with a daily cackpot or that doesn't require massive grinding. Adding things like fun consumables, convenience items and more midrange rewards to the Gold Saucer would probably help.
why should this game be free or cheaper? going to the movies is more expensive than a months worth of entertainment >.>
I'll walk away and not look back if this game ever goes f2p. Been there, done that- games that are sub-based being converted to f2p, it's the death knell for quality content.
However, if they insist on making us pay subscription fees for storage, the basic subscription for the game itself ought to be lowered, especially if a significant portion of the fees we pay are being siphoned off to other projects and not being invested in the game we are actually paying for.
Given the cadence of "content" added to the Mogstation vs actual content, you would think this was already a F2P/B2P game. SE probably just knows the rabid FF fan base will gladly pay extra for stuff that should be obtainable by simply playing a (subscription) game...
In my opinion, SE should take back their announcement and continue working on FFXI's stories again. Seems more worth my money.
Really? Most of the stuff added to the Mogstation were old seasonal items that people actually asked to be added to the Mogstation in the past.
Again, the issue I see is that 3.1 came so late. If we were on the original cadence we would be seeing 3.2 probably in the next month. Even then the amount of content released in this game is still very competitive of an MMO.
Ive seen on this very forum multiple people just today argue that FF14 is too much like FF11 and that FF14 should be more like FF11.
Dunno about the story but.... there will be monthly updates.

Servers don't keep themselves up on lollipops and good wishes. If you weren't paying a fee, they'd have to come up with another way to take your money.
So no. The day it goes free to play is the day I quit.
This is the result of Team Yoshi running out of idea to keep the game fresh and challenging. Nerfing old content to get newer players up to speed is possibly their worst idea—why not? lets have more lv60 players that don't know how to play their jobs well! Meanwhile, pissing veteran players with grinding and pointless content. HW expansion was fresh for like 1 month then most of us realized, they didn't add anything new or challenging, just recycle 2.0-2.55 mechanics in 3.0. The new relic is just another joke to buy SE more time and for what? They are so hell bend on nerfing their own content with this vertical progression setup.
I was in 1.0, quit then return in 2.0, and now 3.0, SE returns to screw up mode...so I'm leaving again....IF they are lucky and fire Yoshi, maybe, just maybe... 4.0 will be good again. Keep your fingers crossed! I swear they are acting as if they learned nothing from XI or 1.0... so much potential to be better and they have to turn this into a glamour MMO.
To be fair when I completed Zeta on Brd the grind minus atma both fate and dungeons was moderately enjoyable, even materia meld was not as rough. But if my math is right on my server it would cost a player 25 million gil to buy the 16 hq crafts and I think 27,200 law and poetic tomes, so 54,400 tomes total or 800 something Alexander runs. So when I look at this relic, even I a former Zeta holder before the nurfs get very put off by this current grind. It's like all the bad parts of Zodiac but amplified.
Yoshi-P already said somewhere that he'd rather shut the game down than go FTP.
The game subscription is fine. What should be for free are the damn retainers tho. Or at least pay once, have them forever.
The amount of money per month is fine. It's less than 2 hours of work at minimum wage where I live.
The issue is the content we get has been lackluster since 3.0. They really dropped the ball with the expansion. After I beat the story and ran the endgame dungeons that was it and there hasn't really been anything since. I did try PvP out of desperation and ended up enjoying it but queues lately have been ridiculous and often have gone 2+ hours, so even that fun is fading fast.
Maybe I'll try LoV but I've heard the queues are bad as well.
Are you positive it's ok? I mean one bottle of fantasia is 9 dollars. That's 60% the cost of the fee. So with cash prices and a monthly fee, don't you think we as a community would see better changes? If you bought a fantasia each month plus paid the fee you'd be giving them 288 dollars a year.
Fantasia allows you to completely change your race/gender, That and the name change are the only things that actually needs to be in cash shop, Heavly optional, and really shouldn't be givin as an example, aka you never have to buy one. so it shouldn't matter.
I think that in the year of 2015 and ingame Microtransaction cash shops no MMO warrants a monthly fee any longer.
They are double dipping for as long as they can.
The monthly fee is fine. The cash shop items are optional glamour items, don't buy them if you don't want to. You can still play the complete game without them.
$12 a month for unlimited play time is cheap. Skip one lunch/dinner out and you more than paid for your monthly fee.
With the need to buy additional (almost necessary) retainer space, and a cash shop, I think it should move to paid, full price expansions every 6 months (or every 12 months and a smaller update/patch every 3 months) and free to play. Guild Wars was pretty successful on this model.
A game having a subscription price has a lot more implications than just "We pay you, now give us all your content".
I mean, fine, we pay, we deserve fresh content, you're right, but I'd rather pay for a good game than play a free game *even if it was slightly better*. The reasons are that a paywall keeps a lot of bad community members away; scammers and bots; pay to win garbage and those things make for a much better experience in the game.
So no, I'd rather keep paying such a low fee as 10€.
Considering I'm a legacy, I don't pay as much as others and there are other ways to get 60day timecards cheaply. I don't really see a problem with the price for this reason.
[edit] The stuff that should be lowered in price are the glamour that released. Minfilla outfit 10.50 and comes with the hairstyle? Personally I couldn't care less about the outfit, but they made a hairstyle something you have to pay real money for... Couldn't they have thrown it in the game as gold saucer prize? 1mil mgp or something...
So you want the game to go F2P? If the game goes F2P there will be LESS content updates and when there is updates the quality will be terrible. That or the updates will be 99% cash shop items.
No thank you. The price for the game is fine too. It's actually pretty decent compared to other MMOs.
I still enjoy the game even if Alex Savage was a massive disappointment. Maybe the next raid installment wont be as bad. Hopefully. I have hope.
You can easily run any MMO with a vanity only cash shop.
make no mistake, these are business people. They know they are double dipping and they will milk people for as long as possible before transitioning to F2P.
IMHO they should have to choose: Either sub fee or MT cash shop. But not both. Demanding cash on a monthly basis and then turning around selling mounts/pets/transmog stuff is insulting.
Though I grant you that FFs shop is very tame compared to WoWs where they release recolored wolf #26 and unique mounts all go into the store nowadays.
I prefer a subscription model. You people REALLY do NOT WANT this game to go F2P. I'm warning you, you will not like it.
If the content is going to keep being so poor and take so long to come out then the game should be free.
I wish SE would increase the cost by $1. for everyone including legacy. This type of actions may finally push the Free to play people away.
I think it's funny how people are trying to say after cost and server maintenance SE barely has any money. You don't think they are making a killing off of us? If they were not, the game would not be here. (I hate F2P, just thought some people are being silly about how poor SE is after our millions in sub fees.)
They said they will be back to a 3-3.5 month cadence again starting with 3.2.
Personally I think if your going to play a game, you should be willing to pay for it regardless of its quality. You do no favours to a developer playing their game for free cause that doesn't reimburse them for the work and time they are put in. The only caveat for that is situations like FF14's 1.x. where the developers are intending a full revamp and are giving free time to loyal customers as an apology for their failure.
That's not even close to the situation FF14 is currently in.
