Thanks, posted my data. I checked my packet loss to Trabia last night and was at a whopping 40% packet loss during prime time. During the day I seemed to hover around 10-20% loss.

Thanks for the information Draco! It really is quite frustrating. I wish that the devs would respond or at the very least let us know that they are aware of the problem and are working on a solution.
I know that playing an MMORPG requires lots of data transfers between servers that are long distances away, but it just seems like the problem only started after 1.19. Seems like that cannot be a coincedence.
I was thinking that maybe some ISP was throttling the connection or something on SE's end is unable to handle the load.
I'd just like to add my information and thoughts to the thread.
I've been having this issue after 1.19 as well, but I haven't been losing durability on crafts. For some reason my timer on the crafting widget has paused during these events.
My ISP is AT&T, but I'm starting to suspect that it's a server performance issue. It seems that there are many more people on post-1.19, so this could certainly be the cause. Unfortunately it won't be easy to address.
I'll do some ping testing when I get home tonight.
Ya crafting depends a lot on the servers response unfortunately. I've also had the same issue where if I'm crafting and it starts to R0 or mining/logging. It will just not let me continue during the event for several seconds and sometimes minutes. When crafting this means when you finally get out of R0 you will catchup to your self on the server and lose tons of durability. I mentioned earlier in the thread where it happened for 2 mins straight, i came back and lost the item i was working on. Each step in the process of synthesis is sent to the server for a response before it can continue. I really wish it was all processed on the player side, then sent to the server when complete. But unfortunately if it was, it could be exploited I'm sure.
I'm sure a fix will be implemented soon. I'm not really too concerned. I can't say if i experienced this R0 like this before patch 1.19. I honestly haven't played a whole lot in the last couple months. But now that there's a lot more to do i want to play dang it! lol
The R0's are coming back strong tonight... I'm going to see if I am having this issue on a lower population server by rolling a character there.
I got a question what Network card are you all using? I'm using a REaltek PCIe GBE Family Controller. Wouldnt it be funny if something in the networking code got changed and is now incompatible with our network cards... that would be messed up.
Another night of constant packet loss. I'm up to 24% packet loss on Trabia. I'm not dropping any packets on the Figaro server. Perhaps I should've made my character there... Drako I don't think it's a network card issue as it only happens at night for me when more players are likely logged on. How many more pages before we get a response from SE?
I have the same netcard as you Drako.
What's weird is I have two computers running right now, my laptop and my desktop. On my desktop I'm playing on my main server of Selbina and getting frequent R0 lock ups, whereas on my laptop I'm playing on a super clean green R30~ connection.
Bleh, is there an option to move our character to a less laggy server? :(
Gonna keep the dual systems running to see if I can get the Wutai server to R0 my laptop.
Idk I just figured id try something out. I'm pretty convinced it has something to do with the servers. But knowing what all hardware peeps are using could be helpful. Randomly i decided to install the drivers from realteks site to see if it would do anything. The drivers have a diff version then the ones windows update uses as well. I'm going to run my sisters char on my other comp that hasn't been updated(and coincidentally has the same network card) Also gonna run some ping tests real quick. Ill get back to ya guys..
Edit: Didn't make a difference. 15% packet loss.
I'm posting as well to add to the number of people experiencing this issue.
Issue: Constant r0 every couple of minutes. Game freezes for a few seconds up to a couple of minutes but chat logs remain close to real-time.
Here is additional information:
1. – Operating system: Win7 64 bit
2. - Antivirus program: None
3. – Internet Service Provider: COX Cable
2) Exact Error Message: None, game freezes for a few seconds up to a couple of minutes and r0 is displayed in corner
4) What area were you in when the error occurred? All over the world, Ulda, Limsa, Broken water, Strongholds, Copperbell...
5) What were you doing when the error occurred? Standing still, crafting, XP party, nothing specific
6) Were you in a party at the time the error occurred? Happened outside and inside parties (0-8 players)
7) Estimate number of characters that were near you at time of error? 10-100, happens in cities and in remote locations
8) Were you able to log back into FFXIV after the error? Yes
Sounds good. Let me know if the Realtek drivers help. Still haven't lagged on the Wutai server while my Selbina connection is fading intermittently :/
so odd i could communicate with my sis comp over linkshell and i could see it, while all the other action was frozen during my R0. I mean like 4-5 messages received during the r0 that makes no sense to me.
Yeah, the fact that you can still use the chat while R0'ing doesn't make sense to me either.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1...ectionlost.jpg 12:30am CST. Still having conn issues sigh :[ I'm giving up for the night.
I'm so glad i'm not the only one having this issue. My ISP is Cox as well. This doesn't happen until 9pm EST, after that it's pretty much goodbye to Green dot. I R0 every 5 seconds, i mean chat and stuff still goes by but i literally can't do anything else. Can't craft, fight, gather, it's pretty much unplayable.
Like others i didn't have this issue until after the patch.
Gonna throw in the towel for tonight too. Better luck tomorrow :[
it is absolutely atrocious that square is still having this problem. his is the same thing that caused me to quite ffxi -- random, incessant, unexplainable R0 errors.
square needs to hire away one of blizzard's network wizards and get him working on their protocol, because nothing short of an internet backbone malfunction keeps people from playing wow.
That likely was when they were getting attacked with a DDoS. Much in the same way PSN has had issues lately. I remember those days. It took them awhile to fix that. But somehow i doubt this is related to a DDoS.
:(
I'm having the exact same issues, I get a few R0's during the day but as soon as it hits 9:00-10:00PM EST it gets unbearable, when it hits 1:00AM I pretty much have to call it quits, I just can't play at all. I freeze up from anything between 10 seconds to 3 minutes, when I come out of the huge spikes, everything I've missed just happens in 3 seconds really quickly, like you're fast forwarding and I usually come out dead, because I have been in Ifrit eating eruptions/plumes that didn't even appear on my screen. I know I shouldn't go in, but I keep hoping I won't get a spike for a battle =/ it sucks to have to tell your LS you just can't come with them and experience their first kill with them, but as it stands with my connection I am more of a burden to them and an MP sponge!
I've zoned into the Ifrit battle with 2 Ifrits waiting for me, I am standing up alive when I am dead, I have issues with not being able to put my wepaon away, Ifrit vanishes for me completely for half the fight, I've even experienced my tank and dps sat outside the ring just where you zone in for the entire fight on their chocobos, but there chocobos weren't actually there.
Saturday I had Cox come out to look at my line, they told me it was my modem and replaced it, 1 hour later I R0'd, called them back they set up an appointment for Monday, 2 technicians came, could see their was an issue with my line but didn't know what it was, so they connected this white box with loads of cables coming out of it to my modem to 'stabilize' it, and made another appointment with maintenance to check my pole and wires outside, they've been now, I still R0, and now I am waiting for a call from the Field Supervisor.
This is getting really annoying now, I've been it experiencing it since this patch, before then I ran flawlessly, with very very few dc's.
1) Operating system: Win7 64 bit
2) Antivirus program: Trend
3) Exact Error Message:
None, game freezes for a few seconds up to 3-4 minutes and r0 is displayed in corner.
4) What area were you in when the error occurred?
All over the world, where ever I am, it happens.
5) What were you doing when the error occurred?
Standing still, crafting, fighting, leves, anything I normally do.
6) Were you in a party at the time the error occurred?
Happens outside and inside parties (0-8 players)
7) Estimate number of characters that were near you at time of error?
0-100, happens in cities and in remote locations.
8) Were you able to log back into FFXIV after the error?
I never dc from this issue, but if I was to force quit, yes, I can get right back in, I load in with the red circle next to my name though and R0ing.
I hope this issue gets fixed soon, because as it stands I basically can't play in the evenings anymore, which gives me a sad ; ;
Pia for some reason I'm betting that this issue with the FFXIV servers, has actually given cox a opportunity to fix issues that you had, that you didn't know you had before this problem. I'm not surprised at all that they found issues really. Its good to know some people are talking to there ISP and having them investigate it, so I'm sure a lot of this is getting back to the bigwigs at the ISP as well. That would tell me that at least it is likely being looked at on the isp end as well while SE is doing their own investigation.
I'm getting impatient now, lol, I've just been on the phone to Cox again, asking why the Field Supervisor hasn't called me back, they're now saying it can take up to 48 hours for him to call back, I was originally told 24 hours! >,< I realize the problem is most likely with the SE servers, but I think I am experiencing connection issues on top of that, I just dc'd from my connection entirely.
I really wish we could get to the root of the problem. =/
*edit I said route instead of root ~ STEWPID!
I'm sure SE already knows whats going on by now to be perfectly honest. Cox can be a pain, I have them as well. I wouldn't get too stressed out Pia. This issue will be gone soon, and we will all be back to late night gaming(like we should be....) :o. If this issue were to persist much longer its really going to have a negative impact on the game, and they really don't need that right now.
Glad you're keeping things positive Drako. I agree with you and think that SE has certainly taken note of our issue, all that we need to do now is await a response that it is being looked into or look forward to the next patch notes to see if they address any connectivity bugs. On another note, late last night I was actually having a stable connection with the Selbina servers. Makes me wonder if we only lag as bad as we do during prime times. Still, I don't want to have to wait till 1 or 2 am in order to play on a green connection but it may have to be a compromise for the time being.
Well, here's an update. Last night was probably the worst its even been. Literally every 5 seconds an R0 with freeze. Starting at about 6pm EST and lasting till I logged off around 2am EST because it had gotten completely unplayable. It's very clearly related to combat, crafting and NPC interaction. Exploration doesn't get effected. This morning-afternoon has been glorious though, not a single R0 in 4 hours of play. I'm hoping this issue has been resolved, but i'm going to be cautiously optimistic. I'll try to post around when they start, if it is indeed a prime time issue. Hope everyone else is having decent luck with stability today like I have.
*Crosses Fingers*
Ya traveling requires, i think.., virtually no response from the server. Your computer just pretty much tells the server where your at. The only time I think this R0 would come into play in that situation is between zones. Youd find it takes alot longer for it to switch between zones. But sense this it typically a rare occurrence, it would be hard to detect, unless you were constantly zoning in and out of say ulda's front gate. You would see it if you were jumping on and off your choco cause that requires a lot of server contact. But ya It seems this issue occurs throughout the day, but it only gets "noticable" about 7pm CST, and then at 9-10pm it gets very bad. I just hope it gets back to normal before i have 99 leves ;).
Well, I went almost all day with zero R0s, then at 11:30pm EST, had them again every 5-10 sec, which made Ifrit unplayable tonight.
I bumped my thread I started a week ago concerning this with some updated test results. This problem really needs to catch the attention of SE techs.
Arliman, I had the same experience as you today. Came home from school and my connection was fine, a few lag hiccups here and there but not unplayable. Come 7-8PM PST and the R0's started coming every couple minutes, which has forced me to log off again for the night.
In a sense this is good to keep my addiction in check, but on the other hand man it sucks not being able to play when you want to :/
So odd so it seems some people still had alot of issues last night. Yesterday, despite me doing lots of crafting, and battle leves, I didn't have too many issues. Not nearly as bad as it has been. I wonder if this is somehow area specific or something.. I usually spend most my time in uldah but yesterday I spent most of it in limsa. hmm...
I have been experiencing this as well since the last patch, and am also a COX internet user. Last night wasn't as bad as previous nights, but I wanted to share a bit of information that may or may not be related. Today at my office there was a large issue with DNS throughout the COX network that effected all of our external sites that are connected through COX Cable.
This may or may not be related to the same type of FFXIV issues that have been going on, or the outage on our part may have been a result of them making repairs to their network.
Here's to hoping it is working better this evening.
Have we had any Dev respond on this?
No I have yet to see a dev response. I don't even play the game at night now due to the terrible lag. This really needs to get sorted out soon. It's disturbing that we haven't heard any response about this issue. I know they were looking into people being disconnected suddenly but is this part of it? How about some sort of update?
Well last night again it seemed to be much later then usual for the r0 to start occurring. It was about 10pm CST before i experienced a single r0. Then about 11 the frequency increased. It still hasn't been no where near as bad as i reported before. But it is still occurring to a certain degree. So if this is somehow related to something the SE devs have been doing then they might be on to something. Anyone else still getting crippling lag? And when I say crippling lag i mean your crafting, and stuck unable to do anything for like 1-2 min straight, unable to select anything, or you talk to a npc and it takes a good 1-2 min for him to do anything, or for you to finish your business with him/her.
My current hypothesis is that the R0 spikes are primarily caused by high server loads.
Think about this... When did the problems start for you? Was it around the release of 1.19? That would make sense with my theory because a lot of players came back with the release of all the 1.19 content.
Are you lagging on a high population server? Selbina is the server I currently spam R0's on, and it had a max population rating when I created my character here. I did a test where I simultaneously logged on Selbina (high pop) and Wutai (medium pop) using two computers and proceeded to witness multiple R0's on Selbina but a completely smooth gaming experience on Wutai.
What times are you lagging? Is it during prime hours like me? The heaviest lag for me starts at around 7pm PST and lasts until 10 or 11 pm PST. This correlates with the NA prime time hours.
Unfortunately, my theory doesn't explain why only some people are getting R0'd on my server during primetime and not everyone else... Also, it doesn't offer a route towards a solution because the issue is based on how many people are logging onto SE's servers =/
The problem I'm going to have with this theory is this. When the game first came out populations were probably double or triple what they are right now. While it was very hard to get into the game, I cant remember there being any R0 issues, and slow responses doing things within the game. So if your theory is somehow correct, then we would have to assume that SE removed some of the servers that helped with the load, and now that people are coming back its bottle-necking. I think Lindblum is a high pop area. It was one of the servers that they had to turn off registration for multiple times when the game first released. Selbina I would expect to be one of the high population ones as well.
I really don't know whats going on but I'm beginning to wonder why we haven't heard anything from SE about this issue. It feels like things are getting better, but I don't know. Id feel alot better if there was a official announcement about it.
Getting huge lag spikes recently, i play on gysahl server and keep getting R0 too, my sent is always around 50-60 and that seems fine, the problem is i'm getting this with another game too, league of legends. I thought maybe it's my internet but everything else works fine.
I've tried using a new modem, tried diffrent settings, port forwarding just recently and still getting mass lag spikes on both games.
The thing i don't get is all websites load fine for me besides ff14 site and LoL site, and yet both those games i'm having problems with. It's just annoying because it's hard to say if it's my internet or the game servers, both games just had a huge update recently which explains them both giving me lag problems, but at the same time my ISP is known to have some pretty bad connection problems too, i'm with talktalk a UK ISP.
To give you abit more information, ff14 my S (sent) is always 50-60, and that neve drops but maybe sometimes spikes up, and for league of legends its the same, i can tell my character during huge lag spikes to move, do diffrent things but i won't actually see it happen until the lag disappears, which is weird. i just find it odd that on 2 diffrent games im getting the same thing, my recieved seems blocked or something but me sending stuff is fine.
I will say I've been doing some experements on the side while XIV is running threw its R0 spikes. I try pinging google, and i pinged mooglebox. Its currently not 100% conclussive, but i noticed during R0 with SE my responses from the two sites would be around double the time. google was like 20ms and it went up to 40ms, and mooglebox was i think 40 ms and it went up to 80ms. I haven't been able to test this theory of mine the last couple nights really because it hasn't be as big of a issue. I'm waiting for a night its terrible like a few days ago to see what my results are. I can't really say what it is I'm trying to get at with this. But if there is something wrong on our ISPs somehow, and its doubling our ping request. Imagine what that would do to our connection to XIV. It already is a average of like 140-250 sense its across seas. Double that and your guaranteed to get lost packets imo..
Just gets me worried, 2 games and both lag, both there sites take ages to load too so i think it's my internet or ISP. But reading threads like this make me think its just the game servers but then nothing seems to be getting fixed if it is. also it doesn't help i have no idea how far gyahls server is from me so i could of picked a really bad server as i live in the uk.
One thing i did notice is if i stand still, in a pretty empty spot outside, with only few monsters and 2-3 or less players, my R is fine and i don't lag, its when i start to move around, sometimes its only a few monsters that need to be loaded and other times it can take awhile bfore the lag hits. but to stop it i just stand still or run to an empty area and wait for few minutes, but that means i'm basicly not playing lol, soon as i start to move or do anything the lag hits again, not sure how you reproduce your lag, maybe its the same?
