Reflection on the idea of teleport removal.

I'm very sad that most % of players base now want everything easy and handed too them. Removing the teleport in the way how it is now wont limit you at all it would give more life to ffxiv because at least you have to work and see the areas most ppl don't even know how most city look like beside the camp areas.

I guess there noting i can do about that the new generation at least am getting use too the feeling of teleport everywhere :)

Again, there's... No white mage class. And if you mean Conjurer, then there's nothing preventing me from equipping a Cane and *then* the ability. This will not impact party composition in any way.

The current system is fine but I might ride that chocobo just to hear the nostalgic music.;)

I like the lore behind the anima system. It stresses out your body.
And its good for less time consuming remember this game was meant to have less time consuming stuff. Unless they up the speed of the chocobo from ffxi the 2 hr crowd will get uppity.

there is a thing if you hate teleporting just don't use it. But don't take away those that do.

ffxi was not casual (time) friendly. When i first played ffxi i only had 2 hrs a day cuz I had to share my game with my bother. As well as the ps2 and net connection. Trust me it snuck getting for help. I would end up having to leave the second ppl got ready. Plus the travel. ffxi has alot of fast travel stuff now. So it helps out.

Teleportation, Chocobos and Airships aren't mutually exclusive means of travel. They can all co-exist just fine. It really depends on what restrictions are put on each of them.

Obviously we know teleportation is restricted by location and anima. We've seen the airship docks out there, they would likely be restricted to those locations and I wouldn't be surprised if there was a gil fee involved. Chocobos would also likely have some kind of gil fee involved as well as location restrictions such as possibly not being able to leave the overall zone (Thanalan, Black Shroud, La Noscea, etc...).

Personally, I'd use all three depending on my needs. Teleports if I'm in a hurry and the other two depending on their restrictions. Hell I already walk pretty much everywhere if I've got the time.

I hated relying on other people to teleport like XI but anima isn't exactly unlimited either. At most they should lower it to 50 but taking it away? or giving it to a whm? No, thanks... I don't want to have to pay someone else or wait for someone else to teleport me somewhere.

Well I created this thread and left it a few days. Seems a fair response so far and I've had a read. Personally I think the teleporting only from Aetheryte crystals or nodes sounds like the best option. It also feels like it makes more "sense" to me. The whole slipping into the Aether to teleport surely should only be able at places like the nodes or crystals. Not anywhere/anytime.

Personally I hope it's a change they make.

Teleports should not be removed once chocobos and airships are in place. Chocobos and airships should be a nice and entertaining way of traversing short and long distance areas while enjoying nice scenery.

Teleports should be reserved for emergencies and it introduces a fairly decent resource management system in the form of anima. The regeneration rate accommodates casual players who log in infrequently, as they'll benefit from not having to spend a lot of their time traveling.

Anima cost on return as penalty of death is a good idea, and using the option of "return" while still alive should be 0 anima.

Death = anima cost
Return = no anima cost

I'm sorry but that makes absolutely no sense. What if you die and you have 0 anima? You're stuck dead until you passively generate enough to return? Also how would that make any sense if the same function requires 0 anima when you're alive?

I think teleporting should stay but once the other methods of travel are in anima could be kicked up to its old regeneration rate.


Keep in mind anima was concieved so your friends didnt have to wait 30 minutes for you to get across the world to them.

I would gladly say goodbye to anima if they give us airships and chocobos. In fact, at first I thought that was "patch" thing due to the lack of other means of transportation, and it would be highly provisional... couldn't imagine lasting for long.

I would be in favor of this, once I get a chocobo!

I don't care how it is done I want chocobos (various colored ones!), airships, the burden of anima done away with and scrolls/quests for travel.

Scrolls? I'm not sure I'm really on board with that idea. Anima is fine, especially once we get alternate forms of travel. Hell if they wanted to decrease the rate of anima generation once we get them that's fine too.

Don't get rid of the teleport system. It is the best way to get to a camp in another area to join your friends for leves and behest or to get to an area for NM hunting. Making adjustments to it is fine as long within reason.

Airships would be nice to have to see the world from a different perspective. Even fighting a few stray flying mobs wouldn't be bad.

Chocobos would be a fun way to travel to distant camps and parts of the world. Raise our own colored chocobos and even enter in contests, races, and events. There could be leve runs where you act as a courier service to deliver items to camps via chocobo in a certain time frame.

I think people would use the chocobo more than the teleport, especially if they have to conserve anima better for very long distance camps to join groups. Once a better party system is in place with better search capabilities people can choose any method of travel depending on time restraints to join the groups.

Wish people weren't so quick to want to get rid of system that has practical uses.

When you die with 0 anima, "return" costs 0 anima, obviously. Forcing the player to wait 3 hours would be ridiculous.

The only reason I don't use the ferry is because it's too far to run. I just stay in one area instead. However I'd be more likely to use it if I had a chocobo.

I'd have to be against taking it out, if not for myself, then for the fact it would be a downpoint to a lot of people, and we don't need to turn people away over a simple point. I agree it's a silly reason, but then, some were turned away just because there was no AH. However, I agree with the anima system. Have it there, but keep it limited.

I say restrict teleport to the 3 city-states and give a "insert job here" only spell to tele people to camps or any of the future areas. I'll gladly taxi ppl no charge just as I did in XI.

Figured I would chime in. Here's the way I see how things went.

Old Team: Hey, lets give them limited anima, so they will use gil sinks like choco's and air ships.
Game: Hi, I suck because I was released without most of my content, including choco's and air ships!
Old Team: We need to fix this! Lower anima costs!

Okay, so maybe I'm a little sleep dep right now. But that's the mental image I got. The point is that the teleporting was balanced with other modes of transportation in mind. For the casual player - which SE still wants to include in the game - the low cost teleporting is important. For the hardcore player, teleporting should be a game of managing your anima because you are constantly needing to use it.

What we know is that Chocbos and Airships will be included, eventually. This will reduce the need for Anima. As it is balanced right now, I suspect that it would be a problem because then there would less incentive to use alternate means. I suspect that the higher anima cost will be re-introduced, and we will keep our "preferred" destinations.

Now we will have to manage our anima even better, or risk having to use Choco's and Airships. This is a good thing.

I personally would like to see an implementation of teleport spells. We can reasonably assume we will see White Mage at some point, either as a new class (probably) or a replacement for what we have. But instead of giving White Mages the ability to do what we can already do, I would suggest we give them the ability to EXPAND on what we have.

This makes sense especially if White Mage ends up being an advanced job. If that were the case, maybe they can allow White Mages to gain an ability at some point that adds Aether Gates to their teleport list, and/or allow White Mage to do a group-return.

I personally believe that death should cost 1 anima (but not prevent you from returning if you are at 0 anima). This will not entirely eliminate death warping, but I personally believe that there should at least a minimal impact from death - which there currently is not.

Again, this will not affect casual players as much, as they are not traveling as much. But it will affect hardcore players. And, again my opinion, if you are hardcore, then you should be endeavoring to avoid death anyhow.

I would like to see chocobos implemented in two ways as gil sinks. One, transport for gil at a higher rate that works like teleporting in that it is "instant" between cities. That is, if I rent a "Chocobo Carriage" at a city, I get a little cutscene of me leaving City A and arriving at City B. Obviously, cost would have to be carefully balanced. This gives me a way to deal with the fact that I am low on Anima, gives me the ability to travel long distances quickly, but does not give me the ability to just go anywhere - that is, after all, why you want to manage your anima.

I would like to also see the ability to rent chocobos, as seen in 11. I rent a chocobo, I ride it wherever I want until I get off it. Like in 11, this provides a faster means of transport than walking or running. This also means that if I do not manage my anima well, I am stuck being slower, but I am not SOL in terms of getting places.

Airships are similar, and in the past have been used how I suggest Chocobo Carriages might work. However, I have suggested Chocobo Carriages instead. Why? Because of Companies. Unfortunately we do not know much about them, but it has been indicated that there might be company airships. I will go out on a limb and assume that these will be company-specific things that, in addition to whatever SE adds, will allow us transport similar to chocobo carriages, but without the per-use gil sink. I would even go so far as to envision that the "Fee" for such ships is a group of crafters in a given company that must maintain the airship.

Talk about killing to birds with one stone! "Free" airship travel for company members, and more stuff for crafters to do!

Anyhow, as I said all of this would require balancing with the current system, and is an addition to the system. There is no need to completely remove telporting - just a need to tweak it once other features that should have been in place are in fact in place.

A good way to practice this yourselves is to just not teleport. I have gone a long time without teleporting, I should be back to 78 anima by now. Running everywhere is more adventurous.

The ferry looks like it's in a giant bathtub, like as if it's not even moving, it bothers me. I liked in FFXI when you could chill on the boat in Carpenter's Landing.

When did SE say we were getting airships and chocobos just like they were in ffxi? Maybe they wont be as useful or used in the same way this time around? Mayb they will be using chocobos as delivery boxes that deliver/ recieve anywhere with like a 2 hour cool down?? Maybe airships will be made by companies and will be used in races or battles?

There are airship docks in the field, quite a few actually. They're also in the main cities if you look for them. They're going to be for transportation between areas.

The didn't say we will get them in the same way. Yoshi-p did say their lack of presence is an example of the fundamental flaw that 14 has of not being very FF-like. FF-like, to at least, implies that we will see at least the basic functionality of Chocobos and Airships in some way shape or form (although maybe implemented differently than in the past) as they have been in the past.

i personally think adding a whm teleport is same thing as just having the crystal ports, i think they should remove anima all together, some from what i'm reading want to run camp to camps and what not, i find it the most anoying part of the game.(exept first initial time u get to a crystal, i thin was big mistak making it possible to be just ported to it for first time,ruin the epicness of reaching them like ffxi had.) if they just allow free anima to specific crystals (same as a whm porting exept we then dont' need a whm sitting in our sity charging for it) then it leaves room for choco's and using ship for other zones. pretty much said this in another link but thought i'd post it in here since it pretty much the same convo. ffxi u were able to port dem jump and kill a nm, warp back/crugel, get a new teleport, go to a mission quest spot,warp back go to another spot for the mission and another and anothr(erm as i'm typing this i realize most our quests is running why would u want to do it and use up all 100anima in a minute to do) but yeah u usually ended up buying a teleport about 20-50times a day easily if u played all day. even know everyone and there mothers twidle there thumbs,whistle and kick rocks as it's time for another teleport. i run out and i don't even do locals so i don't even know how people doing those have any anima without duel boxing. and that is another reason, if throwing money at it fixes the problem for some people willing to pay extra for an account, or have 2 computers and the what not then it's not implemented right..specially for those not doing it that way.

so my opinion i think get rid of all the anima and let us free port to some crystals, i'd be happy with just 1 on every direction, or the teleporting class would be my second fav idea, though near the end of ffxi was hard to even get people to port u, witch is maybe why they though of anima system.

we also had op warps in ffxi on top of teleports don't forget those beauties, they got us to places farther from the ports, defenetly bout the same as free ports to those crystals. go back to charging for each port instead. right now it feels like a punishment system for people who do more then 1-3hrs of playing and do multiple things at once. only got one hour b4 an event why not anima port to grind a few mobs till then? cause it will cost u 3-6anima then another 1-3 back? i said it b4 i think anima will ruin this game for most players if they dont' do something about it, specially by time people acually have anything more to do then sit in a city and craft all day.

heres' to seeing some ships and choco's though, wish they was already in the game like they should of been. i'm hoping what they plan on doing will fix the traveling problems i'm having in game.

giving certain players a monopoly on teleportation would probably be bad idea seeing as people already pay me for teleports.

I would like stricter Anima usage like in the beginning. Just sayin...

2. airship only transfer you between major cities

3. the aetheryze allow you to teleport between cities and camps, no more aetherial gate teleport

4. different types of chocobos. yellow can run/jump, black can fly and maybe we can ride a dragon and fly higher-faster than black chocobo

before everyone jumps on me i do not port much and run most places i go, but this idea of getting rid of anima and teleporting is a bad idea imo. i personally have alot of time i play atm so i have time to run where i want to go now and have over 90 anima. i see alot of this well i don't use it so remove it. the problem is this game is made for the people like us that have time to play and the people that may only have an hr a day to play. teleporting is perfect for the people that can't play alot. if they don't play alot they probably don't know alot of people either so getting a port from a mage or w/e would be a difficult task. i like the teleporting the way it is now and if you don't like to teleport then don't and run like i do, but don't punish the people that don't have the time to run and enjoy scenery with their time constraints. this game was advertised as a game that would be good for both the hardcore and casual players and we should not try to make it to where the casual players do not have the time needed to do the things the way we do.

Posts like this nauseate me. You're already playing a game, presumably to entertain yourself but that's not enough. Presumably because of how you feel about your personal life you want to make the game more like it, making it hard on everyone else that's trying to play the game to have FUN. So you want everyone else to sink a bunch of time into the game doing tedious tasks just so you feel better. Do you like to see movies? What if I told you in order to come to my movie theatre you would have to manually feed every frame of the movie into the projector super fast just so you could watch it? You'd probably tell me to get stuffed, so that's what I'm gonna tell you and the rest of you in this thread that want to remove CONVENIENCES placed there by HIROMICHI TANAKA, the most masochistic game designer we have seen in the past.

aye if u want to roll play walk everywhere dooooo it, don't make everyone waist hours of there day running everywhere, ffxi made u run to places but only once or for a small period of time where it was fitting. graphics are great but no body and there momma's want to be running around looking at electronic flowers and tree's for hours.

more game play and content not waisting time running, it won't ruin emersion, ffxi had great emersion and it was very easy to get places.(least after u got the crystals or made way to all the ops and such like i mentioned already, bored of hearing me repeat myself lol? then why the heck run everywhere)

personally it must be people duel boxing and using ways to get ahead that like the running(cause they not), it's the only thing i can think of outside of roll players or just idiots.

i'm all for choco's and airships, they just need to be placed inbetween the anima's, it was a mistake to begin with trying to create a way for fast travel that runs out to begin with. i've never heard of such things or seen them in any game i've played. off the bat it's gonna feel like a punishment and in a few months if not added more anima or other transports but start adding new content u'll find u'rself with 0anima, most find 0 without doing locals, on top that porting to nm's is costly if u doing that all day too. theres no room for jumping around and playing free'ly like any game should be made. time sink content not running.

I am in favor of the removal of personal teleportation and anima

I am in favor of the addition of airships that cost large amounts of gil to fly (even more to build)

I am in favor of the addition of chocobos that cost large amounts of gil to rent (even more to buy and raise)

I am in favor of the addition of teleport spells limited to specific magic classes

I am in favor of the addition of abilities that let you suicide and return without sp/exp lost

I am strongly against the addition of NPCs that sell teleportation for any price, as this defeats the point of airships/chocobos.

I think it's pretty much been established at this point that Yoshi isn't going to remove/add things from/to the game that will needlessly frustrate players.

Removal of aetheryte and city teleports would be very, VERY frustrating to a bunch of people.

Anyways, I think they should up the cost of anima AND require you to be at an aetheryte stone to tele somewhere. There is no traveling in this game, and it's very prettyyyyy
