Why are all the weird people on my server! xD
Oh well.
I talked to pretty much all of those people mentioned here, the one with the honeybee inn, the guy who talks up any cute lala girl,..
They are actually all nice, fun, normal people, no creepy pedos or whatever. About the inn: I am interested how well it is recreated from FFVII, but I have too much of a hard time to earn 50k just so I can take a look at some inn room for a minute xD
About the OP's question: I don't know for sure, but I feel like I read that it's not allowed somewhere in the rules, even if it's private and consensual, because the game is for anyone 13+ and no one has a way to reliably know how old their counterpart in is in real life.
The Terms of Use does say:
You agree NOT to use the Website or Services to:
i. Upload, post, link to, email or otherwise transmit any content that:
(1) is unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, tortuous, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, libelous, invasive of another's privacy, hateful, or racially, ethnically, or otherwise objectionable;
And the User Agreement says:
3.3 Profanity and Offensive Language. You may not use profanity or any language that a reasonable person would find offensive. The Game is for players aged 13 and older. You agree to behave accordingly.
Since I guess much of ERP can be considered vulgar, obscene, and/or profane it does seem clear that any ERP is technically against Square Enix's rules.
It does seem quite clear however that nobody cares much as long as it is all done discreet and in private.
The age of players is only one reason for such rules. They also help in stopping trolls and immature players from shouting sexually explicit stuff in public channels all the time - something I think most players are quite happy to avoid.
Most MMORPGs have similar rules - even those rated M, aimed at players aged 18+.
I don't rp nor do i erp, but people here and their standards are amazing. I have nothing against erp nor rp, i am for them, so what if that person is erping, and where the hell do u get an idea that that is against the rules? and you are all saying if it is only in their own chat etc etc, the game is 13+ bla bla, so u basically are saying that sex is a taboo to everyone who will one day experience it and regular roleplaying about slaugthering lalafels or boiling au ras in the water is all ok in rp community??? like what is wrong with you all? it's just sex chill
p.s. that profanity language is not included in 2 persons doing erp with consent, no one is cursing anyone there
this is all just my opinion, in the internet world i guess this sentence is a must
I truly hope that isn't your idea of an erp.
I got eHerpes once from ERPing too much T_T
How in the gods is this topic still going after being figured out that those that speak no evil, hear no evil, an see no evil can't be judged.
I want my seedy underbellies dammit!
...like what? o,ô
I only became a lala today and all day I heard things like "ooh you know what they say about people who play lalas" or "people who play lalas are all messed up, what does that say about you?", but no one actually was able to give me a specific answer.
Enlighten me please! ;_;
I'm suddenly reminded of a friend in XI who couldn't give up ERP and we were given a number of hilarious moments in our LS. This guy even slipped up once during combat in a EXP group I was tanking for him; at least he knew how to multi-task. xD
Happens frequently on my server, though it's been more noticeable since we had a major ERP FC transfer over here from whatever dark hole spawned them.
Not that I particularly mind.
I've heard various things like how those whom play them are pedophiles, mothers with nothing better to do than play a character that looks like their children, unimaginative children, character made by parents for young children (kinda a theme, if you haven't noticed :P)
I personally tend to think of them as the 'gnomes of FFXIV', meant to be punted ahead to check for traps, enemies and whatever... cause their little squeaks of surprise are sure to give the rest of us time to react. :P (just kidding. Props to those who play them. I for one can't stand them as I like to actually see my gear, animations and toon a bit better... and HATE how the camera behaves on a shorter character in the majority of games. So I just avoid them all together.)
That's your subconscious at work. Your brain is automatically assigning age to an object based on how it looks, regardless of what it is or how old it is. That being said, not everyone has the same subconscious as you do. Some people don't see a child when they look at a Lalafell. That doesn't make them pedos, that's just how their brain works. Their minds can distinguish fantasy from reality, which is a trait that comes easier to some people than others.
This post is almost identical to one made by a self proclaimed "anime loli lover" on a forum I used to frequent, his justification to being attracted to little girls in anime was that they were a) fiction, and b) actually 18+ years of age. You can't possibly tell me that's reasonable, can you? That being said, Lalafells are no children, they're popotoes undoubtedly. I think a Hyur was a little too excited while being around a popoto and created Lalafell, the same with cats and Miqo'te, giraffes and Elezen, gorillas and Roes, damned dirty Hyurs.
That being said, people who dress Elin's in skimpy outfits make me gag as well. Lalafell too, but for different reasons.
Well, not me specifically just we have a lot of members and a lot of clients. More a result of sheer volume rather than anyone person striking ridiculous riches.
For us it's mostly more about having fun than the gil anyways.
P sure I can make Deneb give you a discount.Quote:
Tell Deneb to give me a discount.
Not everyone is attracted to their character!xD Actually, I'm more amazed many guys seem to play female characters because that's what they are attracted to. I'd have to run around as a half-naked Highlander guy if that was the case, but the mere thought seems...weird o_O They are pixels, after all.
What's with the weird child-obsession anyway?! xD
Like, do lalas HAVE to be connected to children even if the pedo idea is gone? I never once thought of lalas (or their players, for that matter) as children. I thought of them as being little people like Hobbits and the like. I'm small in rl, I feel best represented as a small character ingame. It's actually disturbing and a bit hurtful what kind of thoughts people have about anyone who plays a lala. But hey, I got a lot of bullshit for playing a female dwarf in WoW so I guess I'm used to it..?xD
Thanks for answering anyway :)
I agree with this though. If you undress them/put them into revealing clothes their bodies are too childlike, especially paired with the very innocent emotes. Combining that with "sexy" just feels wrong, like corruption of something sweet and innocent ._.
It's like someone wrote pr0n fanfiction set in The Shire :(
Red 'Shire Diaries
lala arent children, i have no idea why ppl keep making a = between them
they are just amusing/comical shape/looking outside creature with a very evil inside
i really cant take lala seriously when i team up with one
i m not treating them as child, but their face with their body shape and the way their walk, the way they fight
i just cant stop laughing
and ya, even a lala with mustache wearing coliseum set or swimsuit, i dont found it sexy at all
a muscular Hyur with mustache wear swimsuit is sexy, but no matter what a lala wear, he will never be sexy
I don't find nor consider erp legit (i never said stop i just don't consider it real rp) because i have experienced the negativity that can come from it. I was trying to start role-playing in my first MMO outside MUD. I tried WoW and picked a rp server in a data center closest to me. What happen was I was pretty much treated like shi by some non roleplayers with in the first 5 min of my character. I went on the forums to ask why it happen, asked if ot was commen, and how would i report it (i was new to WoW and this was when wrath was released so game wasn't new). The people on the forums then treated me like shi, and told me to grow a thicker skin i then mentioned the word i was called, which I then was mass reported and given a 72 temp ban from the forums and the game.
This happen because erp was "ok'ed" then people open trolled with it, and could use the scape goat "but it's roleplay". Even if it was considered roleplay its pretty weak roleplay, because you can cyber and call it roleplay. This stuff also has real world rammifications if you find out you erp with people 16/18 or lower and can be extridited to the country to be arrested for breaking their laws. (google it and you can find cases of it).
Also just because now a days there is a mindset of "oh it just sex" doesn't make it right to break a law.
I also don't think its good to try to roleplay and have this stuff come up. I've even tried alot of social games like second life etc, and just because I'm a female playing a female i get harrassed daily.
stuff like happens to non participents if its widely accepted.
I'm open-minded but if my fun gets interupted because it, i don't find it a good thing.
All i ever would ask is to keep it off game, make forums for it or something so people like me not harrassed because of it.
From a purely psychological standpoint or a purely societal one?
I asked my cousin this question to get his input (he currently holds 2 degrees, one in psychopathology and one in developmental psychology) and he agrees that, while it may contradict current societal "norms," it is 100% true that there are people that are able to easily distinguish between fiction and nonfiction children. He says that society itself is wrong in this aspect due to how the media portrays fiction (basically, he said the vast majority of people are pretty uneducated and directly promote or give in to fear-mongering through media outlets). In fact, the majority of people in this country don't even know what pedophilia means, they just THINK they do based on what the media told them. Pedophilia is the physical attraction to real, prepubescent children. Pedophilia, in the media, is used as an umbrella term for physical attraction to anyone underage, which is also untrue. In psychology, there's three different forms of attraction: pedophilia, hebephilia, and ephebophilia. Each one corresponds to different levels of maturity, but all refer to people under-age. In fact, the majority of adults on the planet exhibit some level of ephebophilia, even if just subconsciously, due to human biology and how our hormones work. Pedophilia is also not illegal. That's right, it's perfectly legal to be a pedophile. This is another media-fueled misconception. Pedophilia is a purely mental condition, which no law exists. It'd be like saying, "It's illegal to be autistic, or to have down syndrome." Acting in an inappropriate way on sexual urges in such that a child is involved IS illegal however. Not all pedophiles act on said urges though. If someone doesn't act on said urges, regardless whether or not he/she has them, is perfectly fine. Can pedophilia lead to physical inappropriateness? Sure it can. Assuming it always will is foolish. After all, we don't ban pencils from schools just because 1 kid thought it was funny to stab someone in the leg with it. Misconception #3 comes from the definition itself. Currently, pedophilia is only defined by an attraction to real children. Attractions to fictional children (drawn, painted, computer-rendered, etc.) are not considered mental disorders. In fact, a fictional creation, even if it looks "child-like" is not a living, breathing child. It can't be scarred emotionally or physically, and due to this, no crime could ever be committed unto it. Its existence is purely at the discretion of the creator. "It's not a child, it's an alien on a planet where they are born old and wrinkled and look younger as they age." Yes, that's a stupid-sounding baseline for a piece of art, but it's 100% feasible as an explanation because the work is pure fiction.
This is only a brief excerpt of his rambling (seriously, he went on for like 25 minutes xD), and I won't post the whole thing here. Basically to answer your question, yes, the self-proclaimed "anime loli lover" is 100% reasonable from a purely scientific and psychological view. Now, as my cousin stated, from a social view that's fueled by media misconceptions, he'd be labeled as a little weird.
As a scientist myself though, I have to side with the former. I learned many, many years ago to not trust society with anything, especially with matters of human life.
I swear to god every thread turns into a debate on lalaphillia.
I feel like I should change servers
the face make a different
in many western made MMO-RPG they always give dwarf a more mature/old face
where in out eastern culture, we ppl have a trend of cute drawing, you find a lot of "small character race" with a cute and young face
but SE does their job giving lala mustache, which clearly told us lala is not children
@ velox, no offence but ur cousin is wrong and this is due to personal experience. infact most psychology classes (according to my therapist) kinda 1/2 ass studies and are constently changing their definitions on stuff. And around hear at least even most don't understand alot of mental issues and instability such as austism or pedophinilia. As there is an entire spectrum in both cases.
And alot of pedophiles are at high risk of commiting sexual offences then not, and this isn't fear mongering, alot of people who have been abused, inturn abuse someone else (again personal experience)
And here in the states being a pedophile is a crime. Alot of people this past year have been found with pedophila stuff has as videos etc. These people have not harmed a child but simply had stuff related to it.
Lol, sorry, but that is so ridiculous. Yes, definitions change over time.
But what you are saying right now is basically "Science may learn something new at some point in time and then change the definition of something affected by the new knowledge, therefore EVERYTHING you know now is wrong."
That's the same as saying "We don't need oxygen to survive! Sure, it might be considered obvious right now, but MAYBE in the future we'll realize that what we actually need is a special subatomic particle we haven't noticed yet that is part of oxygen, so I'll now go live in a vacuum because science is wrong!"
That's not how it works, just sayin'.
You aren't wrong about that, the risk is there. The way the media deals with the topic is in no way scientific though, drawing connections where there are none and giving false explanations which lead to the majority of people being completely misinformed about the condition. That's what Velox was talking about, I assume.
Sorry to hear that, but that's in no way relevant for the topic at hand. Replicating behaviour one experienced as a child is a completely different effect at work and works with any other type of behaviour too.
Please get your facts straight.
Even in the States it is not illegal to have pedophilia. Like Velox explained, it is (rightfully!) illegal to ACT on it, but you can't make it illegal to have a certain condition you have no control over. Owning videos and the like is a crime because ACTUAL children are getting hurt in some way to film these videos. That means owning them is an indirect move on actual children, even if the person never personally interacted with them.
Phew! I kind of regret asking about preconceptions about lala players because I never wanted this to turn into a full-on discussion about pedophilia (a game forum is not the right place for it in the first place and additionally I kind of made the thread go off-topic with my question...by A LOT )
So....back to topic..?^^°
Erotic Role Play is not acceptable due to item 3.3 of the user agreement. 3.3: Profanity and Offensive Language. You may not use profanity or any language that a reasonable person would find offensive. The Game is for players aged 13 and older. You agree to behave accordingly.
So if you do ERP in a public part of the game using sexual description and acts, and someone reports you, it is not acceptable and punishable. A great thing about SE is that they work on somewhat of a strike system for punishment, like in FF11, they give players the benefit of the doubt on some things. If someone ERP publically, and is taken to GM jail, which they can go to if it's reported, because of item 3.3, first time offenders can claim they didn't know it was a rule or that their brother got onto their account and did the trolling or whatnot. They will give you the benefit of the doubt and let you have a warning, but that's your only one. You cant get in trouble for ERP again and claim you didn't know it was a rule or it was your brother. They would say its your responsibility, since it has happened before to protect you account.
Here's the link and you should look at how there isn't a guideline in place for digits higher than 3. It's fair to say that there isn't a need to give hackers, date miners and gil spammers a break because there isn't really a doubt. They know what they're doing is wrong and that it is more damaging to the company and the players.

Another note is that it's strange to see how the question became a completely different topic. I guess that's because its a public forum.
