Editing Forum Tags To Insult People

Hoping something get's said about this tomorrow..

If this thread get's closed without a proper sticky being made.. I guarantee a few months later people will be back to doing their vile business in tags. It's what happened the last time I made this topic.

tagging posts is as vile as 9/11!

If I remember rightly, one of the Community Team members explained about exactly how the thread tags work back on the Beta Forum (which was suffering from much the same problem of people adding insulting tags to harass or troll other members as is happening here) - basically anyone can add a tag to a thread, however every time a thread is tagged the forum software actually logs the username and IP address of the person adding the tag to the forum administration panel, meaning the Community Team/moderators can easily resolve such problems by seeing exactly who added what tag at what time to what thread. Once Beta testers were told this, things improved considerably on the Beta forum, at least as far as people using tags to troll each other was concerned.

Given the same forum software (VBulletin) is used here for the official FFXIV forum that SE used for the Beta test forum, I don't see any reason why things would be different here, although it would be great if one of the Community Team or a GM/moderator could clarify this. :)

Mouse over the tags.

it gives the name of the person that added it.

I saw a thread last week with some pretty horrific tags on it and I just shook my head at the level of bullying endemic in these forums. Had no idea it was reportable. Next time you can bet I'll be taking every name and writing that very strong letter to the admins. It's ridiculous that people on this forum can't have a discussion without degenerating into kindergartners.

I can't allow this to fall off into the non existent part of the forums! This needs to be dealt with and the topic kept alive until something official is made as a sticky.

Do you have such thin skin you get this hurt by forum tags of all things? Ignore the bad tags and get over it, it's not like they mean anything anyway. I guess sticks and stones is no longer taught to kids these days.

Did the moderators not handle the reports they were sent of people who posted malicious tags? If not, then rather than make a sticky they should just make examples of people and start taking away their posting privileges. Or not. That'd be a very fast way for the GMs to land themselves a bad rep.

I think what people need to do is make higher quality posts.

There are three different forums with a thread(plus a twitter feed) dedicated to making fun of the stuff posted on this forum. It's just generally awful and people are laughing.

Try and post things that are interesting, useful to know, or just funny! If you care about this forum, try and make it not be an embarrassment to the greater FF community.

It is now my objective to make the weirdest, non - offensive relatable tags when redundant threads pop up.

Nice strawman. This is about breaking the forum rules and going against what mods want. If you're ok with that then you are just as much a part of the problem as the people who add in thread tags to harass others.

Statistical impossibility. You can have the most perfect, high quality, informative posts, and someone somewhere will still find something to laugh at. You'd have an easier chance playing a more Proactive WoLf.

Yeah, putting insults in the tags is wrong, acting like this is the greatest transgression against mankind; using words such as "disgusting" and "vile" and the OP must act as some special warden until a CM personally answers him is overblowing it though.

Um, no? Those 3+ forums he's referring to are each quite normally at least one of those qualities, consistently. One off the top of my head is just more funny than anything, but at least it's trying to be funny instead of being funny because of how bad it is.

You mean like the rule where you're not allowed to bump threads for the sake of bumping them? Don't worry, that post has already been reported.

It's already reportable. If we make a sticky for every rule then the rules will need their own subforum. Report it if you want, don't if you don't, but you can't make people be polite on forums.

People just need to stop writing bad posts and not get triggered every time someone disagrees.

They need to focus on the game and stuff of interest to people in the game and not use it as a support group for social issues.

The negative feedback exists to let people know they're wrong, it is a good thing and a part of a healthy community.

Look at the useful posts and the overwhelming positive feedback they receive, try to emulate those and contribute in that manner.

Think of it like a minigame.

OP, stickies are meaningless, especially to the English forums. People in general don't read stickied topics. I post on the Payday 2 Steam community hub and despite the stickies there telling posters what not to do and frequently asked questions that are already covered, people still disregard them.

just report this since it's in the same fashion as the "november..really?" topic. bumped every day multiple times, and adds nothing useful.

topic ran it's course. the people people that told you to get over it are right, tbh. you're not a moderator. you do not operate, oversee, or control users on the forum. telling moderators what to do just makes you seem like you're literally screaming for attention much, much louder than anyone that would ever edit what is a simple forum tag. i'm sure they've seen this by now and are not going to comply with what are basically nonsensical "someone said something i didn't like on the internet, fix it!!" demands.

There are post that are not garbage that have received tag abuse. The "Draw Your Character" thread had two tags added to it by someone with the tags reading "Rubbish" "Children's Drawings". This is insulting to the 90+ pages of artwork that have been posted on that topic. Thankfully the tags were removed after they'd been reported.

That's kind of rude to assume someone thinks their on some "power trip" when they're merely concerned for others well being on forums. When I played World of Warcraft, someone was trying to post a fun contest on the forums for our server because they were upset with recent events that had been happening in their life and in an attempt to cheer herself up as well as other people by offering a Spectral Tiger mount as a reward. It was an art contest and she received so much backlash over it from people both in game and on the forums that she ended up killing herself over it.

Tag abuse or any type of forum abuse; whether people see it or not is an offense on the forums that's reportable and should be reported when seen. There are some people who are hyper sensitive to negative reactions and can break under a lot of pressure from having enough negative emotional stress pushed on them. Should these people be visiting the forums? Maybe not, but that's a chance they're taking in hopes that people aren't truly as mean as they seem.

I'm posting this topic again to raise awareness about how this situation is STILL persisting and to let people know that they can and should report it.
