Hmm... they kinda have some support abilities... TP & MP reg, matk buff, walkspeed buff and status aliment guard but supporting mates sadly isnt their main focus atm... maybe they will get usefull supportsongs with the next updates but uhm yeah nowadays from my point of view they lack in any specialty either dps nor supporting.
But neverless i think they are funny to play anyway :)
Hell, they could have gone with the FF4 bard. Edward attacked with his harp. He played it and musical notes flew out and hit the enemy for next to no damage. But his songs were powerful. If you have to have a bard in this game then make it like the most famous bard of all. Edward the Spoony Bard.
Okay, so the place I had found my reference is my Encyclopedia Britanica. Upon looking further, it is mostly assumed information so for that, I apologize. I took something as fact with a reference that wasn't solid. Though, despite that, within the lore of the game, it's made clear that the concept of bard is more of a battlefield or warrior bard, a concept held more accurately in Irish history and song (see, the Minstrel boy). Within the context of the game, it makes sense, and to me, there is no reason one can not be a minstrel or bard as well as a soldier. Were the context of bard simply a musician, they would have no place ON the battlefield in the first place, but they play this as being a valid battlefield warrior, so archer, using a weapon that in many ways resembles a harp in the first place, makes sense to me.
It seemed fine to me. The job quests do a reasonable job of illustrating how bards evolved from archers. Bards are not minstrels or performers, they are soldiers that weave power into their ballads learned from battlefields and experience, often bitterly.
Sir brave robin had a bard in his party
