Let's go ahead and make it $30 additional per month and add a $40 one time item purchase on the mog station called "Ishgard Residence Permit" that you have to have too.

It's profitable, people will pay for it (even if you would draw the line there personally), it'll allow them to magically bypass the "limitations" so why not do that :)?

The problem is that SE cannot price them at a level that people can blow just like that. Until they drastically redesign how the housing system works, they won't be able to provide enough houses for more than a very tiny percentage of the players. They price the houses to ensure that only a similarly tiny percent could have a hope of buying one anyway. It's the only way they have to bring demand down somewhere a bit closer to the supply (though on some servers, it still fails on that). If houses were reasonably priced, then everyone would want one, and SE can't hope to meet that demand with the type of implementation they have in place.

But if housing were made available, which point of the story would it be at? The requirement for current personal housing is just level and GC based, with no story requirement (beyond having joined a GC, which would have been way earlier). Ishgard housing would have to add a requirement of reaching Ishgard, which already makes it more story-dependent than what we have now, but now that you've brought that up, I wonder if it would require finishing rather than simply starting HW content.

Story requirements also bring up an interesting point about FC houses. Ishgard housing may have to be limited to personal housing only. Most FCs would have new members who can't get to Ishgard yet, and I doubt SE would let their FC house give them a shortcut there when they shouldn't be able to reach it yet.

If adding that extra fee will help better the game and allow all who meet the requirements to have a house, Sure! Cant wait for your excellent suggestions to become reality! Sign me up!

I hope so. I would definitely transfer from my plot in the Goblet to Ishgard and I would easily put my plot up for sale for a nice spot in Ishgard to call home.

Current housing also has GC rank requirements, actually. More to point, I'm pretty sure Ishgard housing would be gated behind something. It's SE's modus operandi.

It's also worth noting I was only commenting on the political elements, since that's what the OP was focused on. There's also that little matter of the Dragonsong war to worry about. But I'm sure the writers will make the lore fit whenever Yoshi & co decide it's time to go ahead with it.

I don't expect housing to be affordable until the demand for more housing drops completely off, leaving housing plots empty for long periods of time.

However, given the fact that not even half the demand for housing has been met, I would say we're years off from that happening.

You know, I have an idea for super cheap housing in Ishgard.

The current inn that the player uses in Ishgard is a mess (trash on the floor, broken down furniture). I think it would be super neat if we got a quest or paid to renovate that room. After renovations, the room would be yours to decorate as you see fit, make it just like the small rooms that are available to players in their free company houses, heck, even make it around the same price. That way every player could get a taste of housing, rather than having to purchase an outrageously priced plot or be tied to a free company. Would it be fancy as a full housing plot? No, but it would be at least a place I could store and show off my furniture. Consider it entry level housing.

This, When housing was released (personal housing) on more populated servers, people were mad dashing to plots and snatching them up quickly. Pretty much camping the play button. The same WILL happen for HW housing. No question there.

If the only options are to pay real money, or to not have a house at all I'd prefer the first option. But as they've said time and time again it's not server space that's the issue, but how frequently they backup the data. If they go through with that and the housing isn't instanced, I'm going to have to believe they've been feeding us lies for the past while.

Thing is, that shouldn't be a solution. Certainly not as a tack on to a subscription fee.

Other games have housing available for free/as part of the base subscription fee, or have them as purchaseable with in game money and in decent supply.

Tossing housing into an increased sub fee and making a supply exception for people who shell out the cash would be a lazy and distasteful, albeit shamelessly profitable thing to do.

If I can pay a reasonable sum for a house in an F2P game with in game currency, I should be able to do that here. Even if that means making Ishgard housing instanced.

I for one would not pay real life money for this, as I do not wish to see this practice escalate.

I wouldn't seriously say that housing was in the Brume... But if left it to the noble houses....Nobles are jerks so yea they'd put us there. But that is just my opinion. I know according to the story's finish that you might think otherwise. However, that was my opinion, take it or leave it. So of course, we don't leave it to the nobles, we approach the new leader of Ishgard to have something else built of course.

If did the story quests in western coerthas, do you recall the city there? It was covered in ice. It's just outside of Ishgard.

My best guess as to really where Ishgard's housing district is? perhaps we rebuild that area?

But yea of course that is only my guess. I wouldn't think people that want houses would want to live with stuffy nobles. I have no doubt that the dev team could think of some lore to make it so were could have a house there if people wished. I do recall the live letter saying that originally there were no plans but it depended on peoples interest (I'm paraphrasing here, perhaps someone would be so kind to link it if wished).

But yes if this thread was any indication. Yes, people are very interested.

I would agree with you that the nobles did and still control the city, but in the end WoL has now followers and support from now just poor people, soldiers, middle rank military people, but from noble families, and even in coerthas. No only that now that they singed the treaty to unite all the kingdoms in eorzea, the nobles would need to think twice before throwing the WoL into the brumes ( political relationship is very important that is we follow some common sense, but then again SE had showed us that they always have a way to make the WoL be persecuted and become a fugitive)

Most likley the housing will be even more expensive than the ones we have now, personally im fine with it- maybe ill have a reason to try to make Gil.
It's easy to make as is and nothing worthwhile to spend it on. The important question is- will they have learned their lesson the first time around with the lack of housing available.

And I do not think they will again. I blame PS3 players for this- get rid of PS3 players and expand the game they are just holding us back (ready to be flamed) It is true tho....

It will be very expensive as they see housing as a gil sink instead a fun or in any way engaging feature, it will not be plentiful enough to accommodate even half the player base that wants it.

The design overall will be as substandard as we have now.

I'm calling it now... meh

Affordable? Maybe. Obtainable? Not very likely for 99% of players.
