i100 and i110 gear no longer special

a part of me is sad about this, maybe make ilvl 110 10 ranks lower would be nice like around rank 30ish like how the ilvl 100 started, and then make the ilvl 100 rank free. but there is no point in crying over spilled milk, it's not like they would undo this, unless everyone in the community cry over it and as we know less than 10% of the player base PvP, most of them are PvE heroes* that would feel this is the right direction. I just hope this change makes the queue time significantly shorter.

*PvE Heroes are players who think they are the best thing since slice bread and go solo mode instead of playing as a team, and thinks they are making a difference and/or think he is carrying the team with his uber PvE prowness. However, In reality they are just PvP feeders.

Well, this is the type of game people praise and want. Vertical progression! Mention horizontal here and gear having merit and you'll get flamed lol.

Personally I never cared for the pvp gear look, it kind of scares me. But trust me, I can see why you guys are upset...everything gets invalidated and nothing feels like an accomplishment. :/

Stop right there! Incentive is attaining good-looking-semi-exclusive gear that requires a hard to get rank a LOT faster with increased pvp xp, while maintaining the prestige of the gear.

Now tell me whats this incentive that YOU are talking about, to KEEP players playing pvp after they grind the now-measly amount of seals they require for the ilvl100 and ilvl110 sets, if not the pvp ranking system itself?

You can farm your FCOB-gear with lvl 60 +20% Echo, which let you faceroll even T13 with singleheal.
And guess what, there was a time were Statics trained weeks/months for the coils and 6/8 players did not get anything every week per stage, even when they killed it.

Sounds similiar enough for me.

Now you go to pf, mostly get ppl who are familiar with it (only looking for certain drop), they kill it for (or with) you and you can get all your dreadwyrm-glamour-gear within few days/weeks (depending only on Rng, bu you'll get some).

Speaking of PvP, I zoned into Wolves Den yesterday for the first time and there was not a single soul in the zone. Is this the state of PvP in this? No one was there and it was kind of sad. I get its not really a big PvP game at all but still, no one?! Jesus. I went in there thinking Id see some people but nobody after 30 min of waiting. Would be sweet to grab some of the gear for Glamour as there is some really unique looking stuff

Seriously they should've lowered the rank requirement for the gear, but removing completely? That really sucks.

Right... the people with prior experience with that are the ones with the 'must have prior clear title to join party or I kick you' party finders for FCOB, and yet they can still solo queue for Frontlines and not even try to learn how to succeed, and get rewards anyway. But if you're in the reverse situation- a PVP pro looking for more practical experience to clear raid content, good luck getting it without paying for it.

"Good-looking"... Speak for yourself. I main SMN now, and I can safely say that the SMN 100-110 gear will not see a single slot of my inventory and will remain in the hands of the seller NPC.

Anyway. If you want new players to get interested in PvP (which I'm starting to doubt), you need to hook them right after their first or few games. That's how it works on a PvE game. It's either PvE related, worth the investment, or dead.

The amount of time it would take for newcomers to get the right to wear the outdated 100-110 sets is so huge that there needs to be something to drive them in before hitting 40-45. Unfortunatly, the mounts and various achievements also take an awful lot of games to complete... so that's out.

So, if the i100-110 was still heavily gated behind 250-300 games (roughly rank 35) as someone suggested, people won't join. Yes, even with that reduced rank.
The same goes for your idea of boosting 0-40 Exp.

You still want to gate your beloved gear behind hours upon hours of grind? Well, guess what: that's not how to make people come to join the previously dead PvP scene.
You already had your time to shine and be unique. But things are going forward, that's how most MMORPG works. Stop sounding like a noble about to lose a bit of privileges to a bunch of shameless peons.

Welcome the newcomers with your gear, instead of spitting on them.

There's "calculated effort to get a worthy reward" and "complete madness to wait hours and hours in queue for hundreds of FL match to get a glamour".
I also want to PvP just because I like that. I'm not driven in for the sole purpose of getting a fluffly wolf tail on my butt.

But whatever. You are complaining about what PvE players experience each time a patch comes out.
Don't worry, a few people cried as well when they saw how easy it is to do a relic weapon for glamour purposes now. Fortunatly, the vast majority understand the need to move on.
Deal with it and go grind to be the first to get your new shiney loot. The new monk set is awesome... and if you don't like it... too bad, but subjectivity isn't a good argument here.

So many sad things SE has done with PvP... everyone has already shared the same thoughts I have on this rank removal on the i100 - i110 gear and the huge gate of PvP ranks (don't know about other people, but whenever I leveled up a PvP rank I always was happy to get a new "reward" for leveling up), now new players see 0 - rank 45 as basically a huge grind with no point, possibly gating them out of PvP once they get their glamour.

i180 gear on the new sets only... If it was at i190, then I would at least be somewhat satisfied. Having it be i180 when the new esoterics gear and alexander gear is 200 and 210 just shows how far behind PvP is and how little Square Enix thinks of PvP, and really just drops the incentive to play it as well. With i180 there is really no "reward" in these gears for up-to-date players to rank up, since any player can mix-and-match esoterics and law gear to outweigh the stats given from PvP gear. The only true reward would be glamour, which many have stated isn't as good.

I see PvP having the same effect as Bismarck EX for the majority of players, old and new. Once you got your i100/i110 gear you wanted (i.e your clear for Bismarck), you would never join it again. Even though the fight and music is great (like how PvP is somewhat fun), players never need to touch it again, which could go the same for PvP in this state. No incentives to play it like how there were no incentives to repeat bismarck.

The one thing I am happy about is putting esoterics in the PvP roulette, but with people glamour farming for wolf marks instead of trying hard to rank up, including people who don't care to learn PvP, the quality of players will certainly drop down...

They do this with all of their content so no one here should be surprised. PvE content gets Echoed and Nerfed, PvP gear gets its rank requirement removed and cost reduced.

This easing of requirements opens the doors for new players to come in and potentially get hooked on something and there's nothing wrong with that—it's actually a good thing.

A snow flake is only special until it melts brah—and that level 50 animal gear has melted.

I know, it's ridiculous that the investment in time to get the new PVP gear is for gear that's only i180. With PVP being level synched it doesn't give us an advantage so why not make it stronger? I can get law gear and upgrade it faster and I'm a rank 45 player.

Morale doesn't do anything in lvlsynced pvp (if the gear is already above the sync). That's another topic all together though

I'm indifferent to it cause at least it gets people excited for PvP again. There is no rank requirement but you still gotta pay with Wolf Marks, so they still have to PvP anyway.

And honestly I've been wearing the PvP stuff for what, a year now -- and I'm tired of looking at it. The 60 stuff is where it's at.

Yeah, but most of the time, things are tapered over time. Decrease it by 5-10 levels now, then by 5-10 levels when new pvp gear comes out, etc. Then in a few patches remove it entirely. Most things are tapered over time. Your iPhone lines do not clear up overnight. It is a steady decrease, like most things in life.

The Rank Requirement should be the incentive to PVP.

I grinded for so long for this reward, to have it freely handed out is so messed up.

Very displeased with this update. Feels like a giant middle finger to to entire PVP community.

At least we can be positive on Yoshis stance about PVP play....

The gear is a huge incentive for PvPing, but that's not why I do it. I do PvP for the excitement, for the fact that every game is unique and nothing is scripted. The most fun I've ever had in this game was PvPing and just playing is a big reward.

A lot of us have had our i100-i110 gear for almost a year now. It's no longer useful in the new pvp mode and is purely for glamour. It's outdated content so I don't mind that the rank restriction was removed, as now a lot of new people may hop on to start grinding it out. I haven't had a chance to log on, but I'm sure people will still need to grind quite a bit just to buy the gear. Some of these people may decide they like PvPing and stick it out. I believe for the pvp ecosystem as a whole, this was a net beneficial change.

I do think it's a fair point that Fyce brought up that this gear used to serve as a stepping stone on the grind to max rank. It's unfortunate this is no longer the case, it would be great if we got some i150/i160/i170 lower level pvp gear to help fill this gap as people rank up. That being said, new people still have the mount achievements to get (100/200 wins for the horse/ADS) and now have the new glamour achievements for seize. I think there are a lot of incentives to get new people queueing up.

In short, we had our run at wearing some unique glamour gear, but it's been out for quite some time. We've got a lot of new gear to work towards now, as well as some great pvping.

My biggest gripe is that the former best PvP gear is useless now (for new content). This is due to how SE decided to scale things in regards of lvl and ilvl.

Before the expansion I just assumed lvl 52 gear would be... ilvl 52. This whole model is a slight punch in the face for those who spent hours on endlevel content. Imo it would be better to scale end level with new end level while maintaining a linear ilvl for main story. This way your hard earned endgame stuff would feel much more useful on expansion. And previous hard/extreme content would still be relevent both for expansion and the old stuff. As of now I only feel like I wasted my time on some of it *cough*relic*cough*. The lucis where kinda worth it though, as I can get to lvl 60 with it. The ironworks gets obsolete at 55ish. The pvp gear on the other hand is utterly useless from the getgo. Vanity? I couldn't care less. Well, I care in the sense that I will most likely get it when I can, but not for the sake of vanity.

Well, no matter what the patch notes say the gear hasnt been changed in game.

ilvl100 and ilvl110 still have pvp levels requirements on it

PVP group is so small cause the combat in this game doesnt transfer well to a PVP setting. Give me true action combat and watch the PVP community become a driving factor in the game. That kind of a change wont happen but your never gonna see the masses flock to PVP in 14 with the combat the way it is. As so SE knows this and with the new PVP gear needing the highest rank you can still cater to the "hardcore" while allowing the "casuals" to get the old goodies.

They did lower the cost of the i100/i110 gear though. That and lowering the rank requirement to less than what it was I'd be fine with... but what they did was completely cheapen it to where someone who never does PVP can get this for a tiny amount of PVP participation and never go back again. With the i110 weapons being much more suitable for glamour than the new ones above rank 45... which aren't very useful beyond that being only i180... yeah they basically showed they don't give a damn about the hard work we've put in. And you can't even compare it to other stuff that's easier, it's not like you can go get a fully upgraded relic for glamour in a day, but you can sure as hell get the i110 weapons easily, from just a few FL matches by showing up to get your Esoteric tomes and playing without an ounce of teamwork.

Well on my server pvp seems pretty dead anyway, so there was no way for me to get that gear without wasting hours in queues. Now with new pvp gear and hopefully see pvp queues shorten. I might have a chance to get said gear, and with the new gear out i'd even want that.

This makes me sad, the tears, the loses, the victories, they still matter because we are stronger, but they steal our presence(gear), in the eyes of the outsiders, that the only thing that matters.

Does not help that the new PVP gear is not even close to how unique our animal gear use to be, I don't feel like a graceful swan in the battlefield anymore when I WHM, I feel like a ugly ducking.

Square Enix was just trying to give us what we asked for, honest!

Problem is the Skype call between all of us and them in Japan was having major bandwidth issues.

So when Yoshi asked us, "Okay, tiny tight-knit community. What is it that PVP needs? What would make this alive again?"

And we said, "Remove Grand Company requirements! That's all!"

What they heard was, "Remove..*GRRRMM* requirements! That's all!"

So they excitedly rushed to their computers and removed gear requirements, and are now watching confused as we're angry.

holy shit. I'm so pissed off. these gears were so rare and actually need hard works to earn them.

I've been doing nothing but PvP for 3 months straight to reach rank 45. what the hell did they do?

I believe that means if your not that rank you cannot use it in pvp but it can be glamoured
