Real Patch Notes

This is a huge hit to the trolls that say SE cant be bothered with the game, and they take ages to release things, also cant they make thier mind up on twisting vice, 1.18 they make it lower mobs TP, now there going back to wiping TP, what will be in 1.20 "Twisting Vice will now double a monster's acumulated TP". I do find it harsh that ifrit drops are influanced by company aligiance and you cant change, we will need to beable to switch soon incase for whatever reason in a future patch we chose the wrong company because we didnt know what was coming.

Patch notes look awesome! :D so excited! It needs to be Tuesday already ._.

I said the same thing as I was reading it! Better not bring back the viability of the Lancer Twisting Vice zerg strategy to beat stuff you shouldn't... but it will.

Let's just hope that most difficult mobs have rage modes/triggered abilities in addition to those based on TP so that it doesn't boil down to how many Twisting Vices you can do to make X a total wuss.

I think it might take me longer to read the patch notes than downloading the patch will on Tuesday.

As someone who chose Ul'Dah on US CE launch day and wishes to join Ul'Dah simply for reasons other than popularity, I feel bad for you guys. Maybe with the airship thing more Limsian and Gridanian adventurers well go back home.

I don't know why everyone assumes people are going to join ul'dah.

There is no longer any prohibitive cost to travel between cities, and Ul'dah and Limsa both have extremely dorky company salutes. Add onto that the fact that Gridania's story line so far is easily the most interesting of the three, and I think Ul'dah's days of dominating the Grand Companies are over before they even started.

Everyone will still hang out in Ul'dah though, because you have to unless you are some weird loner/nonconformist.

I also chose Ul'dah because I like the theme (desert), but I think I might have to relent and join the Twin Adders in order to be in the same company as my LS (depending on how exactly this works with "rewards").

Why? Shoulda been changed a long time ago ... Yoshi and other staff changes should be credited appropriately within the game itself >.> Hopefully they wiped tanaka off the list for dishonoring the FF series as much as he did xD

Be hilarious if in the updated credits they made all the changes in Paint. Just red spray paint lines through the old names with new ones written in green, but also in Paint.

They both make for crappy strategies (gameplay/fun wise) as they negate important factors of the encounter: AoE damage/positioning in one, and mob TP skills in general in the other.

I like how they gave every melee a definable role outside of damage which will help for their viability, but I kind of wish Lancer's would be different as a 100% TP wipe is just cheap. On the other hand like I said if they make the worst mob attacks immune to such tactics (being triggered, or in a fast TP gaining rage mode) where you can't prevent all TP moves then I'm fine with it.

If anyone is curious what I am talking about there was an (extremely lame) strategy employed prior to 1.18 where you could pretty much kill any level mob fairly easily by using Twisting Vice spam to prevent it from doing any real damage. Granted most of these were regular high level mobs and likely not as scripted as boss fights are.

Same here maybe this means we can have some actual party guildleves and not just 5 star solo guildleves where everyone puts a DD on auto follow and tunes out.

I hope they continue to clearly seperate solo players and party players in the future. I'm fine with them developing content for both (you know long monotonous faction grinds for solo players and exciting and challenging group encounters for people who play in party); but keeping them separate keeps one of them (solo) from ruining the other. :rolleyes: (only half serious)

Same reason I'm excited for the exclusively party focused Job System. Yoshi is a genius for bringing back a genuine focus on grouping, in my opinion that will be the saving grace/niche of FFXIV.

I'm absolutely blown away by the enormous size of the changes in this patch. It really will be like a whole new game in a lot of ways!

A new person starting the game is going to have a much better chance of understanding with the new tutorials, much needed addition, good for the health of the game.

To me, imo, 1.18+1.19 has truly been 'Golden'

I think that it is a good idea for the inventory boost to be temporary. Once they start charging you can buy like 7 retainers or something.

Players are now able to color-customize items in a single step by combining it with dye and a base ingredient.
Furthermore, universal dyes have been introduced that can be used across all material types (lumber, cloth, metal, and leather).

Does that mean you can dye whatever color you want now? Or are they still restricted by certain equipment only having certain color variations?

I think its more that you don't specifically need 'red cloth dye' therefore simplifying it to 'red dye'.

Yep, no more fatigue for gathering!!! Last I heard, Yoshi said before patch 1.18 wasn't any plans to change it for gathering. So glad I can fish, mine, and log now with no worries... do what I feel like without being restricted for however long I want too^^ Fishing is horrid with fatigue more than the other 2 >.<

One unclear thing I see though is, tier 3 nukes got a nerf... new stats should make em more powerful but if they still require that "charge" time to go off, they still won't be used by people xD Hopefully they got rid of the charge and just forgot to list that lol

Edit: Not to mention they STILL need a graphics overhaul... pretty sad effects atm for whats considered really powerful spells in FF games!

Hi All / Yoshida-san,

First off, I'm super excited by most of the 1.19 Changes. Some major improvements across too many areas to reiterate here. But a few key things hit me:

• New Interface Tutorials: Even though I no longer need them, I'm really glad to see SE taking the time to make it friendly for any new players to get into the game. I remember sitting in Open Beta (and explaining to my friends when it got released Day 1) how to just even get out of the opening sequence (how to open Main Menu, attack, etc.). :) This is a good update.

• I love the new content for Grand Companies - So much more stuff to do. Repeatable Grand Company Leves, Caravans, etc. :)

• Beastmen Strongholds! Love it! :)

• New Low Level Dungeon (Open World) for newer players or those ranking new class. :)

• Locked Chests! This has that excitement / fantasy / adventure feeling to get a special Key and go hunting for a Locked Chest. I wonder what's in there? :)

• Ifrit Battle!

• Chocobos and Airships. :) Joy!

That being said, I think Square / Yoshida-san made a few questionable mistakes in 1.19 already:

Square keeps telling us, "Oh don't worry about what Grand Company you join!" and they add this "little" caveat above?! :(

It's not all about Gear or Rewards (just doing the Ifrit Fight will be really fun), but it's questionable what they were thinking when adding this. Of course it's going to promote your friends and/or LS mates to want to join the same Grand Company.

It sets a precedence for future Dungeon / Raids to "those in the same Grand Company will earn even cooler stuff (again) and (again) etc. in 1.20 and beyond."

Maybe they were hoping that it'd promote just grabbing strangers / pick up groups, but I think it will do the opposite (especially since this is for Ifrit Hard Mode).

• Promoting even MORE Centralization of Ul'dah.

I understand that for the lore, the Goblin who brought Materia to Eorzea had to land somewhere and start his business, but for all the "decentralization" that Yoshida-san and his team is trying to do (to get people to LL or Gridania), they pull off this mistake:

All of these design choices, just further cement Ul'dah as the central city (including the Main Storyline which sends everyone over there).

It's fine for me and many others, as we're used to going to Ul'dah or staying there permanently now, but for all their hard work, it's strange that SE and Yoshida-san just decides to plop so much critical stuff back in... Ul'dah and Thanalan. :confused:


Overall, I really look forward to 1.19, but a few changes are going to be interesting to say the least.

That would be a player problem and not a problem with the decision to make GC specific runs yield more. They're thinking long term.

Maybe the ancient magic will get an animation overhaul in 1.19a or the release day patch notes? I know they should be much stronger after all the rebalancing we'll see, but yeah they still look weak visually.


I think the "extra" rewards for the Ifrit battle will just be minor things.

I love it! ^^

I only have three negative comments:

1. I raised an eyebrow at the changes in conjurer. While I have not reached those skills yet, on paper that seems really restricting. Of course, I'll wait until I try it before forming a real opinion, but I imagine higher ranking conjurers will have given adequate feedback well before I get there.

2. I read about this a bit in the forums, and I still don't understand the purpose. Why are we able to cast in passive? Why shouldn't we be casting in fighting mode like everyone else? I rather like the fighting mode, it gives me more to manage.

3. The abolition of Guard. Even though I was having some trouble mastering that in conjuction with the auto-attack, I did like the idea of the skill. I would rather have seen adjustments to it than automating it all together.

I think of FF as like the difference between a stick-shift and automatic. The more control I have over my character, the better I like, as long as it's not so much that I can't pay attention to the fight. Little things like going into active mode might not seem like it takes much skill, but it gives you more you can mess up on, without making it too complicated.

Other than those, the patch notes are very exciting! Kudos to all the hard work the devs have been poring in. Can't hardly wait. :D
