IMO just make stoneskin I cast differently in/out of battle - in battle? single target, out of battle? groupwide. Remove stoneskin II from game and give whm a new ability related to mitigation.
Having played through WHM to at least 50, though SCH is my main at 60, so I cant say anything about the new WHM skills
I hate seeing people whining about WHM losing proshell and the stoneskin trait and about people wanting stoneskin 2 for other healers. Yes losing the stoneskin trait actually does hurt so this one doesnt really upset me much.
But what I hate about the people whining is that they act like these are the "special" things about WHM. No, WHM is about its pure, huge heals, single and aoe, as well as its big regen. I dont think these people understand their own job
My WHM is only lvl55 so far and SS has become completely useless imo, it barely protect me and my party from one hit, so much that i rarely bother casting it during fights and I don't even bother when I solo content, compared to how often I would rely on it to dps before the nerf. And now i realize they also nerfed protect, that plus holy, I really hope it gets better with higher level because right now I can't play whm as I have for the past year and it just make me want to not bother with it anymore :/
Stoneskin was not your strength, and the only time you should have ever cast it during content was for an incoming tank buster (or T10 Prey), where it's still plenty useful. Your ability to auto-sustain while in Cleric Stance is, in fact, greater with the new tools available to you, too (Asylum & Tetragrammaton). Either way, 18% Stoneskin would have been absolutely batty in the new numbers. WHM's ability to "bubble" damage is minimal by design; WHM heals it up after.
Protect was not nerfed - it is the exact same as it always was for us. Other classes now benefit from the full power of Protect as well, which was important for balance in endgame content for ensuring no single class is "mandatory" for high end content now that there's three healers instead of two.
Holy was nerfed, yes; you're going to find that you still put out plenty DPS once you have the new skills, and ~50-66% power Holy is still a crapload of power for a healer to have in a recastable AoE that has a stun.
The only reason I want it is when I'm running with Astros who only about 1/2 seem to have their cross class skills. Which means we have to sit and wait for me to stone skin everyone one at a time.
I was suggesting removing it because you could replace it with something usable in battle - perhaps some sort of aoe damage reduction (~like fey covenant perhaps) and increase your utility compared to an extra 8% (basically at this point 800-1600 hp) at the start of the fight.
Thinking about it it's always been kind of a blah skill in terms of usefulness. More a QoL one than anything.
I must be extremely lazy because, as a SCH, I literally stop using stoneskin for almost anything after 2.5. In rare cases will you see me swiftcast it immediately after a crit adlo simple because it adds great longevity to galvanize.
Other than that, I have always been more than confident to heal through large pulls and felt MP and cast time mid battle was better on using my SCH native ability. In raids, I let WHM take care of stoneskin. AST have their own mitigation abilities now too. At this point, usage feels like a personal choice than a mandatory ability. But if your party can't function without their security blanket...
You are not lazy, I rarely used stoneskin in the first place as SCH even before 3.0 because it was not traited anyway. I still don't get why many SCHs just won't use their own abilities instead or to supplement the WHM's stoneskin. Just Adlo the tank and/or Succor the party before a pull.
It was protocol in T13 before the pull since the shields would last until the first megaflare. Also the same concept in other raids like Turn 11, and primals like Thornmarch Extreme. The same thing with Bismarck Extreme now, it would prevent the stone skins from immediately falling off after the island gets hit if everyone got a Galvanize. Which would have been a waste anyway if they didn't pre-succor.
Stoneskin will have more utility as ilevel and gear vitality increases over time. 10% for 10-12k HP isn't a lot now but you can imagine when gear gets around ilvl i230+ the utility of the mitigation will get better again.
Wouldn't damage from monsters also scale as well?
I removed SS from my main hotbar, I only SS2 before the beginning of fights now. Before SS had about the same mana as Cure II and in cases of tanks actually worked better then Cure II, now it's not even as powerful as a Cure 1. It's not mana efficient and I highly doubt there are cases where you need SS instead of a well timed Cure/Cure II, there has never been a moment I've been in where SS is required from making sure a tank doesn't get 1HKO from full health. If that situation ever comes up then there is a buff rotation issue or a massive gear issue.
It's simply not efficient to use if it cost that much mana and goes away after an autoattack. I don't see why they didn't give us a mana reduction trait on SS instead of the near useless cast time reduction trait. Then again they gave us a RNG for medica so I can't be too surprised.
If SCH's want AOE SS then give us a non combat AOE adlo in return. Thanks. I always swiftcast SS2 before any battle engagement (bosses and non bosses).
