How is that a bad time? I get home late too, but the game needs to be worked on. People in different time zones are going to experience it differently. I live on pacific time, so maint happens an hour or so before I need to go to bed on a work day. Boo. I'm currently staying on Atlantic time, which means maint starts at 3am when I am already well asleep and not playing anyway. For most people off pacific time, midnight-3 or 4am is not gonna be an issue unless you don't have a job or work night shift. SO /shrug
it happens from 6am til 10 am normal for me, i find that good :P
and if youthink its bad happening at 11pm til 4 am in the US you don't have much to complain about since it is MID DAY TO AFTERNOON in japan, it always takes place partly in there primetime D:
edit: after reading though this thread allow me to sum this up to anyone who just joined
"LOOK AT ALL THEESE STRAWS I AM TRYING TO GRAB, OH WHY DO SE HATE ME, I MUST HAVE ALL MY TIME AVALABLE FOR I AM THE SOLE CUSTOMER IN THE WORLD"
Nuuuuu, it's the one thing we EST people have!!!!
This again?
I strongly agree with rotating update schedules. Yes, I'm Australian, but my play hours are erratic as all hell anyway so it doesn't hit me too badly. It's the concept that I agree with rather than my own selfish wishes. People should share the burden. Because of my erratic hours, I may be hit harder if they implement that change, but if we have any sense of empathy we can all clearly see that repeatedly hitting one group of people while everyone else just says "deal with it" and refuses to take any hits for that person is just ... wrong. Those people are supposed to deal with it but if it comes to one of these other people having to deal with it that's suddenly a whole other story. Oh, the joys of disregarding the few when you aren't part of a targeted group. It doesn't matter when you play or where you live. You get the benefits of these updates. Benefits come with costs. Currently, a small percentage of the player base is paying those costs, when they're the least able to reap the benefits.
As for SE being based in Japan, I'm still pretty convinced that that can be done by other people at any time and any location. Checks and whatnots can be done on in house builds (which can be exactly the same as the versions we play on) at any time in advance. A lot of stuff can be automated. Anything that needs to be checked in real time can be checked by other people. They can make it work.
I don't think what the OP is asking for is unreasonable. Because FFXIV is a global game, no matter what timeframe you pick, SOMEONE is going to be inconvenienced. For that reason, it seems fair to me that they should switch up the maintenance times so that the same people aren't getting hammered over and over and over again.
I'm an EST player, so I'm living the good life as far as maintenance periods go, but I do recognize the injustice.
At least they are consistent with their time some games after an xpac are whenever they feel like it.
-shrugs- Maintenance is usually 2am-5 or 6am here, I usually go to bed with it then wake up fresh and ready to play :)
I'm sure they picked the time that inconveniences the fewest people, which means it's not likely to change. They do have logs to show when the fewest people are playing.
Honestly? No matter what you do, it's going to be bad for someone. Right now, it seems like their times are based on a Japanese word schedule? Or at least it seems that way. 3:00 PM - 7:00 PM JST... Seems pretty ideal for Japanese players having the night to play it I guess? I don't really know, that seems more annoying to Japanese players than to me as an EST player where it lasts from 2:00 AM until 6:00 AM XD
I like it but I'm sure I'm biased. It seems pretty decent for (most) of hte U.S. at that.
I don't see much of an issue the maintenance times. I'm pretty happy with them.
No matter what time it is at, someone will be upset. I would rather have it at a consistent time so I can make arrangements around it than wonder "what bloody time will maintenance be this time around..."
Ya really I work, And sleep and eat sometimes. Maybe you could do it between 7pm PST and 10pm PST
Even knowning that is my main play time. It doesn't bug me, Sometimes it would be nice to choice Movie on Tuesday vs Playing... And moving it to this time would make that choice for me.
Oo and sometimes I have to cut that grass vs Play to. So could you plan it then too. So I don't have to make the choice.
KILL THIS THREAD PLEASE...
IF MMO Downtimes is an issue. And clearly all that is important to you. Please Change your life to work around the current MMO you play.
Maybe a Paycut.
Or loss a B/G friend
But that's a choice you can make.
Asking them to change is never going to happen.
It's different for everyone. It'll always be inconvenient for someone. Luckily I'm at the opposite end of the spectrum where the maintenance never effects me due to my work/play schedule, and I'm thankful for that. But even if it wasn't I'd be fine with it. Spent many hours over the years waiting for patches and maintenance in other MMOs.
I think it's one of those things you just have to work around, play when you can, and shrug it off and do something else when maintenance has to happen...that's part of MMO life.
Nuuu don't change it. It's early morning for people in the UK which is great because it doesn't matter o/
I like it the way it is now because I'm always asleep when they do maintenance.
Careful OP, I was banned for mentioning a "rotating maintenance"
If anything, it should be once a month.. like FFXI was :( and when they need to implement a hotfix, they shouldn't need 4 bloody hours -_-
I'm just upset that I only get to play on weekends since maint has almost been every evening since HW. I get home at roughly 11:30 PM every day and Maint is always going haha.
Oh yeah, they're going to make it 5-6pm to 8-9pm Japan time... yeah, right. No point hoping about something that would never happen.
Also not going to happen. This would only happen if regions were separate and locked, meaning NA couldn't play on JP and visa versa.Quote:
Edit: Or, you know, stagger the server down time per region.
I work nights too but the bottom line is no matter when you do maintenance, someone is always going to get screwed over.
Ever thought that maybe its because Blizzard is a US company and their employees are working during maintenance hours, and that SE is a Japanese company and has maintenance at our nighttime for the same reason?
I swear, it's almost like people think they're purposely choosing to spite nighttime players.
