And they wonder why they don't get commended *rolls eyes*
What you're doing is labeling the majority of posters based on a few. :P So yeah, you're assuming.
But really, you're just giving me the impression that you act emotionally and that you're probably insecure. I'm not saying it in a mean way either, I struggled with being insecure myself for a few years. c: That's the strong impression that you're giving me based on how you're reacting to not just the situation in that one dungeon run, but also the posts.
I've gotten commendations as a healer when i'm playing another game and letting people die and i end the dungeon thinking "wtf did i do to get this commendations"
And then there are times that i play godly and save the day and all and get non and say "Awwww come on!" in RL in a peter griffin way, then sigh and continue playing.
That's funny, because the guidelines offered for giving commendations are:
がんばった人
面白かった人
面倒見の良い人
The person who tried hard. The person who was most interesting/the funniest. The person who was most helpful.
Nowhere does it say the person who was most skilled! Of course, you can give your comm to the person who was most skilled, that's up to you. But by the game guidelines, commendations don't have to have anything to do with skill.
Perhaps someone else had a cooler nick. Sport a cooler glamour. Or it could be a lot of other factors which well.. it's impossible to pin point all of em right?
commendations are like gifts , nice to receive , but dont expect one every day!
as a tank i always give it to the healer when clearing the instance
dps distribute their comm with each other i might get lucky and get 1 from them
depends on the impression u leave
more communication with party member seem to increase your chances of getting one or 2
Okay... you're really making me sit and scratch my head trying to figure you out (which is hard because I'm totally exhausted right now). Clearly most people like you and appreciate your efforts.
Why is it so terrible that once in a while, you don't get points? Try to ask yourself that and give it some thought. Maybe it'll make you feel better.
Because like I said before, I always do my best and there're plenty of runs in which I get zero commendations. It bothers me a little, I guess, but in the end of the day commendations really don't mean much of anything. It's kinda nice knowing people took the time to give me a point and noticed my efforts, but it isn't the end of the world when I remember that through my efforts I still made the run enjoyable for myself and others. The points don't actually do anything, they're just kinda fun to collect. :p
The game is about having a fun experience within the dungeons, raids, whatever; not just collecting the points. They're only part of the overall experience. ;3
I do my best every run, but I don't expect commendations. Personally I give them not only to good performers but also to people who I enjoy to play with. If yourself were healing a run I was in, but say a BRD in party also did their job well, but also was chatty, funny and made the run memorable, I'd give them the commendation over you. Some people just don't commend at all, too much hassle to click lol. Don't take it personally!
I have 100% commendation rate know matter what role I play. I always get at least 1. Most of the time people don't give any. There is 56k bonus exp you get after giving so many so I will always commend someone it's usually the person still there. if I want to commend a certain person it has to priority because most people exit to fast if they're not waiting for loot drops.
That's the issue, if I was never commendated I probably wouldn't care, but being used to it, when it doesn't happen and I genuinely feel I've given my 110%, I get both confused and a little mad ^^. When this happens, I wish I could ask those players if there was something I did that prevented them from commendating me, or if they felt my performance was simply outshined by one of the other players? We will never know because I can never ask them myself.
I do enjoy this game a lot...I certainly do not play it because of commendations, I was here before they were implemented <.<. As to your concern about my "insecurity issues", you might be right, but aren't we all a bit the same? To an extent (some more than others), don't we need to feel that others approve what we do?
I remember times when i got commendations simply for dying alot xD , i call them pitty commendations xD
If you are playing a healer and get ZERO, every time, you are doing something wrong.
If you are playing a tank and get ZERO, every time, you are doing something wrong.
If you are playing a DPS and get ZERO, every time, you are playing a DPS, don't expect them.
When playing Healer, you will generally reward the Tank, because that's who you're paying attention to. If the tank sucks, or the run is just going awful, you'd probably reward nobody.
When playing a DPS, you are better off rewarding whoever made the run smoother. This will usually be the Healer (since they can rein in the pace that which the Tank pulls things), but there are just as many awful healers as there are awful tanks.
And DPS are generally "awful in general" and you have to be playing your Role (eg BRD's have songs, use them) to get a commendation out of it.
As a healer, I'll usually award the Tank unless the Tank makes the party wipe, or the Tank exits the instance before I get a chance to.
8-person parties are harder determine if anyone deserves it, as a healer your eyes are on the HP bars, and only magic casts show up there, so we have really no idea what the DPS is doing.
I wouldn't be bothered about not getting one if I'd never been on the forums and seen people saying 'My good man, I only give a commendation when someone has played truly exceptionally. I do not believe that you are deserving of my commendation just for doing your job. Hurf blurf I've never kissed a girl.'
So now when I don't get one (because tank commends healer, healer commends tank, dps commend each other) I'm always suspicious that I got that self-aggrandizing muppet.
Seriously, they cost nothing to give. Unless the run was a total mess with everyone screaming like idiots I always give it to someone.
Some people do. Its that reassurance that they have a meaning in life. Others could careless what anyone else thinks about them. People who post their life all over things like FB from checking in at their favorite restaurant to how they are feeling today, seeking attention, look for commendation, possibly middle child syndrome.
As many have said commendations are just there for someone to possibly hand out, they don't have to. Many a party member leaves before I can even skip the end cut scene. I always hand out mine, its there may as well. I guess being a tank it usually goes to the healer first unless they leave before I can, then its whom ever is left. If you expect commendation because you think you did a good job, isn't that all that is really needed? You know you did a good job, be happy and move on.
Given the nature of random players in DF pugs, there's a plethora of different possible reasons for why you didn't get a commendation on any particular run. In the end, they're an incentive to stay civil both socially and in handling your role in the party, and that's only to increase your chance of receiving one, not some guaranteed perk you're earning by nailing your role perfectly.
I, for one, tend to focus on my role so much that 90% of the intricacies of how any of the other party members are performing are completely lost on me, the remaining 10% more or less being the bottom line (did the tank lose hate a lot, did the healer struggle keeping us alive, did it take forever and a day for enemies' HP to drop, etc). In the end, a player's conversation in the party chat is going to be far more easy for me to notice/remember at the end of the duty than how perfect their rotation and anticipatory responses were. I'm not saying no one can focus on their own role and still see the intricacies of others, but again, you're in a DF with randoms pulled from a large and diverse group, some of which are as incapable at focusing on their own role AND everyone else's as me, some of which don't even care enough to give a commendation. Even just luck plays a part.
Anyway i'll like to apologise if i sounded harsh on my previous responses. Just continue to bring forth your best in a party (which i believe you certainly did) and have an open heart at the end of the run. No commendation? No biggie. There's too much a factor to who gets a commendation and it's really simply a bonus. FFXIV is a great game, don't let this bonus feature kill the fun for you.
Ah I think I see where you're coming from OP, you feel you let the team down in some way by not getting commendations? Something like performance anxiety :p Correct me if I'm wrong! I think the same sometimes, wonder if I mucked up somewhere, but that's because I'm a real hard taskmaster on myself, with or without commends, I question what I can do better. I mean this kindly, try not to let it get to you and don't be so hard on yourself, I've had perfect runs without one commendation (I main a WHM), yet had runs where I dc'd, ended up on the floor.. logged back on and got two commends :D I was going wtf?! I was going to post Elsa singing Let It Go, but thought I might get lynched :/
My experiences seem to align with most of this topic, if I have some off day and play like crap on dps (pingponging mines in Fractal final boss) but talk in /p, I'll usually get 2+ comms on the 2secs it takes to me to leave. Play brilliantly on indemands quietly and people barely notice. It's the same thing, players of a casual designed mmo aren't going to be that observant. Especially on lowend content like levelup dungeons. That and they just don't care about their own commendation score, so they don't bother thinking of others'.
No need to apologize my thread wasn't very friendly to begin with so it's kind of natural people assumed that was exactly the reason why I wasn't being commed on the first place lol. With that said, the only thing stopping me from playing this game is an unexpected heart attack. I'm enjoying every piece of HW...I don't want to sound kawai but...these maps...and flying is so beautiful *_*.
Commendations were not put in so people would work harder in the dungeons. They were created to get the community to communicate with each other. Most people I know still use them for such. It's entirely possible that if the run was completely silent, that the others didn't bother commending because they found the run boring. Try talking to people, giving advice. I've had past runs where I screwed up and got people killed and still managed to get comms because I was friendly. Other runs, where I didn't want to talk, I got maybe 1 or none. It all depends. I never expect a comm though.
It's tough to get commendations as a DPS.
The only way I get commendations is by being even more ridiculously nice than I already am. Of course the hello, and the gg thanks for runs, but ideally some other nice comments. You certainly have to be much nicer than you do as a tank or heal.
I ran a roulette with fc today, I was tank. I wiped the party at last boss by falling off cliff. I got the comm. Not deserved at all, my dps was low, didn't really know the run. But it was the healer that gave it. If everyone does well I follow the DPS should give to DPS and TANK and heals swap. If there is a standout, I give to them, I try to notice when DPS do a good job, because I think they get missed the most.
If there's a new person in the group, and they say they're new right at the start, they get my commendation.. Because saying you're new in DF is about as commendable as can be considering the chances of them being kicked are considerable.
If there's no one new (or more than 1 new person), I'll look at how they generally behave (especially) and perform (somewhat). I've also given comms to people who may not have been optimal, but because the other 2 or just rude. Trying to force people to skip cutscenes immediately removes you from my commendation list, no matter how badass you end up being :)
I commend for various reasons. Performance, glamours, funny names, fellow roegadyn, people who talk, people who tell jokes. But if you are expecting commendations then that's your own problem. Not going to change who I vote for. Sometimes I end up in progress runs with friends. They automatically get it.
I don't think i would commend you just for playing SCH properly, it's too easy for healers to get away with being lazy.
I think the time of the week has a lot to do with how many commendations you get as well. Early in the week after reset most people will give a commendation every run until they give out 5 to complete the challenge log entry for the week. I think after they give out those 5 they quit giving them out the rest of the week.
I'm sitting at 2441 commendations as a PLD main. Honestly there's no rhyme or reason to it. Some runs I'll be freaking awesome and get nothing, and others I'll just phone it in during a roulette and walk away with 6. I think the only time it irks me, is when I join an in-progress with a group of undergeared folk and carry them to victory and they all leave me with nothing. Even them MEH. As tank I nearly always give props to the healer if they kept me alive. Usually I'll only give props to a DD if they actually use Limit Breaks and not let them go to waste which is like almost never.
That said, if you want commendations, do guildhests. By and large the quickest way to farm them.
As it is right now, no matter who preforms the best, the tank aka the role hardest to get a player for, is the one that will be rewarded.
Dont play well for commendation, but play to challenge yourself.
Unless you are going to claim that the other three didn't do their jobs, I don't think there is a point to the OP. Maybe a dps who performed above normal expectations got a commend. Maybe the tank who led the easy run got some commendations. You aren't the only one playing your class the way its meant to be played...
I've been going into dungeons recently, as Dragoon, and getting 2 out of the 3 commendations almost all of the times.
I talk, I crack jokes (really really bad ones), I act supportive.
I also don't die like 95% of dragoons who don't know how to play a survivalist class.
Playing your class right might seem like what gets you commendations, but it's attitude. It's like how I never commend people in Dota 2 who scream "commend me" a hundred times. It is not YOUR right to be commended, but your party's right to commend you.
LOTs of healers(ASTs especially) have been getting comms from me, for saving my ass/putting up with unlucky multiple deaths.
I remember someone posting on who to commend.
If your a tank commend healer.
Healer tank.
Dps dps.
But here's my addition.
Who ever can make you laugh the hardest and just makes the whole run fun.
Performance means very little to me if it's the last one on the list I don't care if we wipe I care about having fun OP just have fun why worry about useless rep points?
