Those silly FF14 players, they'll do anything to get their timecards won't they?

It's so shocking to see people be so rude on here.
Okay so you don't agree with the government.. So how would you feel if we turned the tables and started blaming every American for the things their government has done? That would be silly.
I think people on these forums need to grow up and show some respect. You're not helping anyone by treating OP badly or dismissing them.
Down with the Monetarists!
It's funny to see posts like "money don't fall from the sky" or "It's all your fault" when in this "Europe" there are some nations that prentend to order while they haven't yet paid the war debts of 70 years ago.
However don't worry, Greece won't go out from Europe because all the others partners would be f***** in that case.
Good luck, dawg; but as you know very well, companies don't really care about ethical stands unless it makes them more money. FF14 might not be a thing you do for a while if you end up not being able to afford it.
To be fair, most of the responses have been pretty well-informed, and a lot of the dismissal comes from the OP insisting that the situation is entirely someone else's fault.
Now, I'm not going to argue one way or the other. Politicians do that for a living, and I'm a housewife, not a minister. But, with my limited understanding of what's going on over there I can say one thing which I hold above all else as fact. I'd worry about more important things than whether I could play FFXIV if my finances were that bad. If things go as badly as predicted, just finding a good meal could prove to be a struggle, never mind paying for electricity and online games.
Well, it doesn't really help that OP started his post by basically accusing us all of trying to invade Greece and insulting our countries by telling us our democracy isn't "true democracy", whatever that may be (maybe that Ancient Greek kind of democracy where only rich men were allowed to participate?).
I feel bad for you and I hope you can keep playing, but I have no idea how SE can help you with this issue. I think what you can do, is buy as many game-time cards as you can or transfer a amount of your money to a creditcard (debit version) and pay for it that way.
Damn, ya'll are insensitive as hell.
Stop it already. The guys asks for one thing
and is in a tough spot, yes we all know about food water and a job
but he passionate about this game.
Get off he's nuts.
24 days till my sub expires..will pray to every god every day all day
The OP certainly hasn't caused any of Greece's problems. Those have been a long time coming. It's a very bad situation to be in. I really hope you guys get to keep playing. I don't want to see gamers cut off due to politics, especially when the game can really help you to escape the situation there at least for a little while. =/
Thank you very much for the support.
dang this thread is pretty vicious.
Yeah because comments implying OP and other Greeks deserve "what is to come" is really 'correcting' them /s. Not saying that OP made a good post, but goodness sinking further below their level isn't going to solve the problem.
(Bolded for clarity)
OP gave us an issue, and we should be looking at how it can be best addressed so players aren't excluded.
It's exhausting reading the comments made by people having a sook over "omg he said I didn't live in a democracy!11!1 but much freedoms!1!". Let's address the issue and forget about the other comments made since it's their opinion and they aren't relevant to their original question.
I think you'd find that isn't the case. I think Americans are however, blamed for things Americans do generally (which is also an issue because it is stereotyping), but that's irrelevant to this post.
When democracy was created, the people was actually involved in political decisions, everyday law making, etc. Some persons were chosen to represent equally every kind of social rank, and changed frequently to prevent some kind of power from being establised.
Now, we just vote for some elite political dude within a set of already chosen persons and let them rule our lives for a bunch of years. That's the only power the people kept from the initial "democracy", and that's what the OP was refering to.
"We" kept the word "democracy" because it sounds reassuring for the masses, but it actually has not much in common with what it meant in the past.
I'm not saying if this is a good or a bad thing, in fact, politic as a whole is so complicated now that it would probably be impossible for a modern society to get back to the "old model", but heh.
As a fellow European (British, so we're not exactly best buddies with the EU and are having a referendum on leaving it next year), I'm appalled at the behaviour of Greece. You were in trouble, because you were spending beyond your means, way beyond your means. You were helped out, given loans on the proviso that you buck up and start spending what you can afford. Yes, it means austerity, lots of countries went through austerity, the UK's debt went through the roof and is slowly being brought back down.
But, you have now voted to ignore your debt, now go and work out how much that debt is to each and every EU citizen. You have cost every man, woman and child €500. That is the debt of Greece, if every EU citizen were to chip in to clear that debt, it would cost us €500 each. You are refusing to pay your debt, so where do you think this money came from? Was it magically produced when Merkel ran a dungeon a few billion times?
No, it's from governments, from taxation, from us. So no, I have no pity for Greece, if I were to overspend on my cards and suddenly find I was unable to pay, I wouldn't be able to take a vote on if I should repay what I owe to the card company.
And the 24% thing, that'll be VAT, it's already 20% in the UK, why? Because we know that our income from taxation generally needs to be higher than our spending, unlike Greece who thinks they can spend money they don't have and keep expecting loans they have no intention of repaying.
So they said "No" and made a Party out of Counting the Voices....uhm....what the Hell are they doing?
Despite the propaganda going on about what we were voting, we were voting about if we want to sell our country to the European Banks, or not, by accepting or not accepting the society destroying laws they were trying to force on us, which proved a mistake too the past 6 years..
No matter how hard they tried to mislead Europen citizens with propaganda, we were NOT voting against Europe/Euro.
Yo op I wish your country the best of luck with all that's happening and I'm sure se is watching it as well and figuring out what they can do ^_^.
No, you absolutely are. A referendum is a legal action. If you reject the bailout conditions, then your country has effectively voted itself out of the Eurozone, and that may even result in being removed from the EU entirely.
Italy, Portugal and Ireland are next. No more haircuts. Greece is Bankrupt. Game over.
And over in America-land, Puerto Rico's in the same predicament.
Mainly because I'm curious, can someone help me out here.
Greece is in financial ruin for reason I care little about, and the European Union effectively bailed them out under the condition they do this or that to A) Pay the EU back, and B) prevent this from happening again. And the response from Greece as to A) not make the changes to prevent it from happening again (not sure about this one) and/or B) Simply not pay back the debt and the EU is about to give Greece it's financial ass.
Is this an accurate cliff note version of this situation, because I'm trying to wrap my head around it as well as how is this Square Enix's problem.
The problem seems to be that a lot of things are giving up on Greece money wise ie pay pal banks refusing to allow money with drawl due to panicked people. Most of the ways to pay for the game minus time cards require the money coming directly from said bank account thus causing sub money to stop going through and accounts bot being paid. That is were se can come in and look over the situation and see of there might be other options they can come up with for paying the sub.
If that is everything can be mellowed out and worked out.
Referendum was simple. Do we agree to the terms and conditions of the bailout which were imposed on us when we accepted the terms and conditions of the bail out. What do you think Europe is going to do now? Say "sure Greece, you have an amazing track record of keeping within your means and repaying the loans we gave you, have some more money".
What do you think the result of an EU wide referendum would be if the question was "Should we give Greece more money... yes/no"? Hint, MAJOR no.
We'll see what happens, but part of me thinks this won't be SE's choice.
SE has nothing to do with internal European politics.
For the OP, if you can stock up some time cards, you should probably do so ASAP. Nobody knows what's going to happen next, including the people in charge of Europe and Greece.
I'm perfectly aware what you voted on,my Problem is how you did it. There where dozen privately Streaming Cams out there, and public Cams too.
So while you counted the Votes saying "No" you did it on public Viewing, thats not my problem, BUT you did it while drinking Beer eating Grilled Stuff and all. Like i said you made a "Party" out of counting the Votings that will decide your Future. And thats something I can't really forgive in such a dire Situation like your State is. So while i wish YOU and only YOU personally the best of your Luck i don't have any Sympathy left for Majority of Greek People.
SE doesn't really haved any control over your currency issue. If you really want to maintain your subscription be sure to grab a few time cards.
Greetings!
Although there are events currently taking place in Greece, I am afraid this is not a topic for the Final Fantasy XIV forum. Also, a number of comments are being directed in a negative fashion at each other. To prevent further conflict from ensuing, I will be closing this thread. Sorry for any inconvenience!
