what content? if i wanna hurry and grab arrows or something why not chocoback it real quick...its up to the developers to keep up with content....

C'mon, I can understand using a chocobo to ride out to a hamlet, dungeon, or out of the way area for a quest/just to explore the world...but mounting up to go round the corner and up some stairs?
Why Not ^^ you know you wanna ride your chocobo everywhere.....all i see bout this thread is people complaining about a chocobo theyve waited a year for....and before it comes out they dont wanna ride it?!?!?! pfff i wanna ride mine everywhere and eventually fight on it!
You don't need your mount in the city. End of story.
I have never seen a Final Fantasy where I was allowed to take my chocobo into a major city. Until that day comes I really don't care for Chocobos to be in the major cities.
You guys think chocobos would overcrowd cities? It requires people to ride these chocobos and overcrowded and FFIV don't go together right now.
I hate running, but I definitely do not want Chocobos in town.
I'm okay with this. Mounts should stay outside the city.
Agree With OP! The rest of you trollin....or slow....
I truly believe developers made their best decision after some heaty discussions/meetings. They surely consider a lot of factors while making their choice, unlike some forum-ers
PS: I am not against any ideas. I am just thinking from the developers' positions - Why are chocobos not allowed in towns/cities? The developers must have good reasons for that. :)
Making the crafting system less tedious and unfair is considered dumbing down? I like the word streamlining. XI had awful crafting that I almost never even touched, outside of fishing (I enjoyed fishing a lot in FFXI, actually). But you have to acknowledge that this game is being catered to casual and hardcore players alike. I find the crafting to be enjoyable because of it's simplicity. Considering it's just a money maker and a repairing option for me. And yeah, I do trust the developers that made FFXI so enjoyable for such a long time.
Question is... Why having a chocobo in town?
Saying is always easier than doing. With their current level of graphic and design, you cannot expect developers to simply develop something in just a matter of short period.
Ever walk from the entrance of Gridania to the Conjurer's Guild? Yeah, we definitely don't need a faster way to get around cities...
I don't care if they allow Chocobos in cities or not, but they need some kind of city shortcuts.
Yeah, they should implement one of those tube-systems from Futurama. Or an underground metro! OMG THESE ARE SUCH AWESOME IDEAS. Support them by liking this post!
(By comparison, Chocobos in town not looking so bad now, huh?)
It requires one minute and half of your lives going from the bridge of Gridania to the Conjurers' Guild.
It requires one minute and ten of your lives going from the bridge of Limsa Lominsa to the Ferry Docks.
It requires one minute and five of your lives going from the entrance of Ul'dah to the Weavers' Guild/Thaumaturges' Guild.
Little time that definitely doesn't require a chocobo run to go there.
Why not having them on town? Can you imagine all Ul'dah kweeing clogged by Chocobos all the way in? It requires two Chocobos with a Roegadyn to have the same effect of the Dreamtoads.
Going inside buildings, like the Guilds or the Aetheryte camp is also something you shouldn't see. You don't want to see a horse inside your house, rite?
The only place where Chocobos can run around in the city is Gridania, where pretty much everything is outside and a little labyrinth-like, but if one city can have the right it's not right the others shouldn't have it. 1 out of 3 cities that Could benefit with a Chocobo in the city means (at least for common sense) No Chocobos in every city.
Again, why should we have chocobos in the city?
Agree, if youre too lazy to use your legs to walk in a town then youre in the wrong game.Quote:
I would rather them keep them out, I just envision Rift or WoW with a small army of mounts everywhere in uldah and it makes me cringe
they prob wanna instill some sense of realism in the towns
Anyone who voted against this should adopt the idea of being a little more open minded. In the MMOs of today you are only forced to dismount from your mount if you go into certain areas of towns. Being that the game is designed in similar ways as FFXI and the towns aren't really open enough to support the idea I do understand why you cannot ride them in town. But nevertheless I find this disappointing. I guess though at the very least it is staying true to Final Fantasy world because I cannot think of any FF game that you can ride them in town.
skateboards in town!! with mini games ...like kingdom hearts lol. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FMVq1kh7xG4
People blocking everything with their mounts? No thanks. If you really need a mount to cross a city, you are very very lazy and need to go back to WoW.
Uh.. When in ANY FF game have you ever been able to ride a chocobo in a town? This is, after all, a game in the FF series. What did you expect? This isn't WoW, or Rift. You don't need a chocobo in town because you're really not traveling far distances in town, nor is their any monsters to aggro.
OP makes me "/facepalm"
This thread makes me sick...i feel like im stuck in the past with no flux capacitor...blocking npcs when you got f8? i bet you guys as soon as jobs come out youll wanna revert back to classes too...you keep saying use your legs, well why did you want chocobos and airships in the first place? just because you can use a mount in town doesnt mean wow or rift...if you want something useless like this to complain about, complain about the color coded gear text similar to wow setup....havent seen a complaint thread bout that yet....
Threads like this makes me facepalm.
There are so many other important meaningful issues and valid requests, lost because they're flooded with miquote boob sizes complains and threads like this.
I don't know man, as far as I can see the only positive thing about chocobos in town is to reach certain area of the town faster. I don't see any form of content being implemented with chocobos inside towns, etc. However, the negatives are far more and shows in every game that has implemented mounts within towns.
Even if you can target closest npc with F12 (thats the actual key, unless you remapped to F8 =p) the clutter this would cause on places people gather around would not be a very cool sight.
while i agree with not being able to see content from having a chocobo in town i do see benefits of travel a more FF feel in town imagine in the future walking through ishgard and having colored chocobos wearing armor while players walk slowly on or beside them showing off their sexy bird steed. or even cooler, your summon on left and your chocobo on right...haha long shot i know but yeah i dont see to much harm from being able to mount in town. just faster travel hangin out at LS spots lookin cool and atleast you could listen to chocobo music instead of the city music lol. people will argue server problems....but arnt they supposed to be fixing servers before ps3 release? i just dont see to much of an issue coming from allowing this i think people are over exagerating the problems they have...
Age of Conan? You can ride mounts in that game and it looks a lot more realistic than FFXIV. Also I believe EQ2 and there are several other games where you can ride mounts in towns. It is very realistc considering back in the day people rode horses and had horse carriages that rode into towns. I never said WoW, even though you made a point that is the most well known game that does allow this. By the way the graphics have nothing to do with riding mounts in a town and doesn't belong in this thread in the least. I truly wonder if anything goes through your head before you choose to speak.
Also I do actually agree with the post from the stand point it wouldn't work well with the current layout in FFXIV major cities. I wish they would open Uldah and Gridania more like LL and be more expansive and not so clogged up. By doing that and adding boundaries and only allowing you to ride your chocobos on the main streets in the towns would be really neat. It would make the cities feel more grand because most of the cities currently in FFXIV lack the Final Fantasy feel for me.
Maybe you need one of these.

If I see this kind of shit happen in 14 I am going to somehow take control of the game and smash your characters' faces in with chocobos until you are never able to play with them again.
And that screenshot is rather tame compared to what one would typically see in a street in WoW. There are points where you cannot see an inch of the damn ground because of all the stupid mounts. I do not want to see your damn chocobo in town.
Well if it is allowed one day, certain areas shouldnt be accessible. Like riding a Chocobo into a building or onto an elevator.
I can tell you what it will likely be set as... You pay the fee and it'll show a short cut scene of you mounting the rental chocobo, running down a path on said chocobo and then fade to a "Now Loading" screen briefly. When it loads you'll be able to control again and on your chocobo. SE did this in FFXI so no doubt we'll see something similar. Being able to ride a Chocobo from the rental location to outside, or around the town a little would be an interesting concept, but not one we need. Keep it as it is.
I hear a lot of complaints about Rift, but i played it for 4 months and not even once i saw people jumping like tards ou using their mounts to make the game less enjoyable.
It's all about the community.
But yea, WoW is one huge chunck of ****
You can do most any magic intown, which you could not do in FFXI(from the time period I played atleast.) But I do think they should keep chocobos out of town or there will be no reason to ever walk again? People will also just idle there on their chocobo. It would look rather ugly I think. But like I said you can do other magic in town, and once we have summons if we can have our summon in town +1 to that!
