One Year Later - Opinion Poll

The game has improved drastically since it's failure to launch in September. Just look at the "Do you remember?" thread to see how far we've come. But when asked for an emotional response (How do you feel...?) You get a Neutral answer because the game right now has little to be EXCITED! :D about.

Outside of chocobos, who is EXCITED! :D about the beastmen strongholds, the lower level dungeons, the materia crafting system... the... UI adjustments?

The main story is going very slowly, there are no real Super-Villains out there even if you count the new information on the vague Imperial threat. There's little to do for people who have been with the game since September last year (plenty to do for those rejoining/just joining us.) So even though we are likely to keep playing... our emotion reaction is... /meh

This poll is moot, you should place it on a website non-related to FFXIV where fans and non-fans can post, because this forum community does not equal the entire populous of players and non-players of the game. biased poll is biased.

Its not biased at all and its not even attempting to poll everyone. However, it will give a nice picture of part of what the community thinks. To be completely honest, non-fans have no right of even offering suggestions, comments, or even being allowed to poll seeing as they aren't even involved with the game, so giving them that kind of opportunity on some off-site is what would be moot.

The poll is premature unfortunately. While the selection of the one-year mark is kind of a widely accepted point at which to pause and review, in my opinion, in the context of FFXIV, it is not relevant or informative. A poll taken after the release of 1.21 would be the fairest assessment of the game I think given that, currently, that is approximately where the arc of repair and reconstruction patches concludes putting the game where it would have been at retail release, had SE not imploded the first time.

While I may stand corrected, I would estimate that any polling done at this point would yield the obvious "It's much better than it was, but still has a way to go" answer.

The problem with posting somewhere else is simply that it will most likely be biased AGAINST the game, IE people who just heard the 4.0 'meme' or left a long time ago will just vote saying everything sucks. In fact, SE will need to do a hell of a job when releasing PS3 version to change this idea.

But, if you can find a MMO forum with plenty of people that are at the very least following the news (even if not playing the game), go ahead and try posting it. That would get less 'biased' results

The link to the survey is free for anyone to do with what they wish. If someone wants to copy and paste it into another forum feel free. In fact I encourage this. :)

The problem with placing the Survey on outside websites is that all of the questions require the user to have been playing the game to give a valid opinion. You can't in good conscience talk about the pace of patches or if the updates are working if you have not actually been playing.

I put very likely idc about subscription i just want to buy more retainers.

I also put unlikely to recommend it to a friend yet I checked much better when it asked about other games in the market. That's because my opinion is different from my friends and as much as i enjoy it i know my friends and what they like. Perfect example of how individual different opinions don't correlate to a 'better' game.

Done! I'm impressed at how positive the results are overall. Maybe... Maybe this community isn't as bad as I'd thought?

I'm just sad period. FFXI was a great many things... FFXIV was to replace it.

Just watched this video http://youtu.be/rrGQR9Qx3mI?hd=1 and I was quickly reminded how I couldn't be more excited for FFXIV. The music... the lore... the classes... (bought the collectors addition)

Having been on a detox (a break from the game) it pulled a great many things into perspective, of which was reflected in my poll answers.

Not universally true by any stretch. There are plenty of very positive contributions by the community throughout these forums (The OP himself is but one source of those positive contributions). Yes, there are also detractors, but focusing on that part of the conversation to the exclusion of the well considered opinions and suggestions of the more positive or constructive sources of criticism and/or praise is more than a touch skewed.

The trouble with this comment should be self-evident.

Way to take it literally even after I gave an example of who those people were like (maybe you just forgot that part) Anyone can make the distinction from Gifthorse and not, which is ultimately a bad suggestion vs a good suggestion.

The community isn't saying they're satisfied. It's saying it agrees with the direction the game is heading in, but knows it is in no condition to release.

Looks like you read the poll results almost as much as you've played XIV in the past six months. :)

It doesn't matter if the questions are unbiased when the audience being surveyed has a heavy bias.

And that is exactly the BS that the company wants ppl to think that poll is so fake the results are just generated to make ppl think that everything thats being done is generally accepted by the majority, when the game hits a wall they see that a low lvl buisness ploy would not rake in consumers =/

The problem is that FFXIV comes off as a game that's still in "Alpha" phase.

Some of my friends have said that they would rather have Guild Wars 2 in Beta form, than XIV in its current state.

thing is this is a poll on a forum that requires you to have played the game in the last month to post, hence a lot of people who left are no longer here. The other thing is i think it signifies that the people playing mostly think its an average game with some potential. They are mostly optomistic. I am not anymore, but i can accept that overall its probably pretty accurate for the people who frequent this forum. A lot more people are ok with the game than i thought.

the thing here, is. A rating of average is actually pretty bad, it usually means im only here till something better comes along.

Even with my pessimism a concede the possibility that eventually this game might be good/interesting.

Considering I was the first one to answer this poll when results was just me... They are not fake... Also this isn't a poll developed by SE it was made by a forum goer... way to go saying this was a ploy by SE -.-

i know i support SE and really want this game to be one of the best MMO's in the market, that being said, we cant deny the fact that this game still needs allot of work to start competing with other upcoming games.

no AH, no mail system, no LFG system and allot of other things that are basic in all MMO's still don't exist in here, i say 6 more months and it might be worth playing.

Obviously if you filter out people who dislike the game (i.e., those who think SE are not adding stuff fast enough, changing stuff for the worse, and think it's a crap game), then all that's left will be people who like the game (people who like the speed of progress, the changes, and think it's just an all-round fun time). So it's statistically fallacious to gauge popular opinion by asking only the latter group of people, which is what you do when you conduct a poll in a FFXIV forum where most of the people who are unhappy would have already left, and hence be unable to participate in the survey.

So the people who didn't like it.....left. Imagine that. Maybe you should consider that option because, with all the trolling you do of both the people who enjoy it and the dev team, you clearly don't belong here. As long as you enjoy trolling, and I don't mean trolling trolls like people do to you and others like you, there will be people with a sense of justice to continue to report you and get you banned from the forums til they outright ban your SE account.

The only one I find interesting is I find it hard to believe people marked they are willing to start paying for FFXIV in this state. The content just isn't there yet, not to mention combat system isn't final. Overall I like the direction of the game so far, but it's just not there yet to keep my attention for long.

I'm just saying that this survey is not statistically thorough. That's not "trolling" or whatever other bourgeois word you like to call it. The population of this survery is simply not a representative sample of "popular opinion".

Personally I feel this game hasnt advanced quick enough ( look at how fast Rift pushes updates out). As you can see by my charecter lvls Im not in love with this game as alot of you are. The thing is I really enjoyed FFXI and the classes in it and I think the reason why I still check on XIV is that I hope it can one day be as fun as that game but with bettter graphics. Im one of those few people who perfers to lvl in groups instead of solo questing. There isn't many of those games left and I dont think this game will be focused on that either in the end but I feel it has a better chance then WoW at providing that playstyle to me.

Atm I see the other, I am with you with the group leveling and that is the main draw that keeps me from looking else where.

They are putting many group level thing. Bstmen settlements, dungeons, they are adding SP bonuses for chaining mobs in a party (XIish like system), and changing mob placement and respawn to better allow for group play.

The game lacks content but so far they seem to focusing alot on group leveling in the future which is why I am still on the positive side of this game's future.

This is as false a statement u can make...What about the 100s of thousands of people that ledt this game? and because they left they cant post in the forums? Do these people opinions not matter? The very large majority of people who own a copy of FFXIV do not play it. and this is FACT. So yes polling a small sample of people who all obviously have the same mind set besides a very few is a moot poll. There are so many people that own this game that cant poll so you are only getting the biased opinions.

I am glad the ffxiv official forum community in general gives the game a C+(as long as its free to play and we arent talking about trying to get others, namely PS3'ers to play) I would say that is an improvement over the scores this same group of people would have given 30 days after release.

But is a C~ really good enough?

One thing is certain by far and away we all agree the game isnt ready to try to sell to a new customer and most people agree its not ready for a monthly fee.

What does that say about the past 12 months? I have heard people on this forum say many time "the game was released a year to soon" but after a year we still dont think its ready for a fee and we sure as hell dont think its ready for new customers. So was the game released 18 months to soon? Or did the dev teams just not get enough accomplished in the 12 months they have had?

I think these poll results will be skewed by white knights and trolls alike to further whichever side of the argument they are on.

For me personally the results of the past 12 months havent been enough. I recently got lucky enough to get myself and my wife into closed beta for path of exile. So I will be taking a break from FFXIV. I plan to keep checking on it from time to time but after a year(even including the changes coming in the next couple of weeks) its just not enough to keep me interested.
