Aether Current Locations

not mine, but found these while I was looking for locations of 1-3 star marks. Show the aether currents as well.

Under Sea of Clouds you forgot the location (10x, 34y).
It is marked on the map but not written in the list.

There is a typo under Hinterlands. The 5th entry should read (17x, 18y) not 15y.

I just want to say that this list is amazing!

And boy, they weren't messing around when they made these maps, were they.

It almost makes a necessity to learn how to fly in these areas because getting around on foot is so damn inconvenient.

That one was such a pain in the butt to get to!! I had to have someone show me how to climb up the cliff. :(

Also, with the one at (5,33) I can't figure out how to get to it. Someone on Excalibur told me I have to do the lvl 59 MSQ in order to get there, but I don't know if that is true. I was trying to get to that section of land from the ramp thing that is on the east, by the bridge and the river, but I couldn't get up there.

You should be able to climb right up there via the hill. I don't recall where the AC exactly was but I don't remember having any issues getting to it simply by walking there on that side.

Second... Thank you for doing this for everyone. It was a big help.

And as for finding the location mentioned here, if you have not already, you have to go way around (north I think) and climb up and around and DROP DOWN to get to it. (if memory serves me correctly)

Nope, that's way off base, and no, you don't have to do any 59 quest to access the Aether currents in the Hinterlands. I had all of them collected at level 58. That one WAS touch to get at though because you have to go south quite a bit to the ramp up to that area and then come up around from the west, but it's definitely not as far out of the way as you are suggesting.

There are some confusions with some of them. For every map you have to fully complete the areas main scenario to get flying in each zone. Some quests or areas aren't unlocked unless you do so.

Draevanian Foregrounds some of the quests aren't visible even so so what you have to do is do the beasts quests until the mission is unlocked and Marchetomp in Tailfeather.

The Sea of Clouds isn't truly finished after you first see Bhismark. Progressing through the main scenario you are brought to a new location to complete the rest. Finally about this location there is a quest near the Fortemps Manor in Foundation called "Honoring the Past.

Holy smokes I needed this thread badly. Haha. Lvl 54 (1 mill+ to 55) ACN/SMN/SCH and I have yet to unlock annnyy maps for flying. Yikes. Page = Favorited. Thanks for all the hard work on this. I had no idea where some of these were and now with this and the compass I have an idea of where some of these are at. *thumbs up*

A while back these were posted that show aether current locations + hunt locations. Super helpful too :) GL getting all flying unlocked!

I just finished the quests for currents in Dravanian Forelands. Chocobo's Last Stand was not one of the quests. The quest before it, The hunter Becomes the Kweh, gave a current, though.

The Unceasing Gardener doesn't give a current. However, Hide Your Moogles does.

In 3.1 (which released on November 10) they changed the quests that give Aether Currents to the first quest in the quest chains, whereas it used to be closer to the last quest. The info in here was from before that change happened.

In the Churning Mis,t the flag for "Hide your Moogle" is wrong. It belongs next to the summoning stone on the ramp towards the Zenith Aetheryte.

Thank you for posting this, it's really helpful. Could you maybe add the numbers to the flags on the map? Would make looking for the ones I haven't done yet easier.

I think it'd be a good idea to eliminate aether currents entirely from the game. By the time to collect all the currents in one area, it's time to leave and go onto the next map where the process begins anew. It makes the unlocking of flying nearly pointless as you never use it when it'd be the most convenient.

Then there's Diadem, where collecting aether currents has always been nothing more than a chore.

The whole point of aether currents is to keep you from cheesing through the content of the area. It was designed on purpose to make you travel through the land then get flying for when you need to return to areas. Never was made to let you use it while doing the MS quests in the area.

Since the 3.3 patch, I think some of the current spots have moved, I was helping a friend before the patch and we got all his Cloud Sea and West Highlands, but now when doing the Forelands the currents were not in the spot shown above. Some updating may be needed now.

They're different in the Churning Mists too. They seemed to be mostly just off the path the MSQs take you.

Has anyone had issues with finding any of these? I'm in coerthas western highlands, at x25 y 27 and the aether current is not there. I do NOT have the compass, but I've found others so I don't know why it wouldn't be there for me. I've watched videos (multiple) and they all show the place it should be and I'm in that spot and it is not there. Is it because of the compass? Then why could I find others without a compass using the videos online?

The currents have indeed changed. I use to fly people for free to every current spot. I had all the locations memorized. Now I just tried it tonight and only one current in Sea of Clouds was the right one, the one right below the airships.

While helping him do the quests for the currents we ran into two of the world currents in new locations. It looks like most of the corrents have indeed been moved to be in or around where quests take you.

Has there been an update to the current locations? I cannot find the 9th one in coerthas western highlands and i feel like I am losing my mind.

Real nice layout, to bad SE had to mess with them and move them, now their impossible to find :/

You can always use the aetherial compass in your key items to get a direction and range. Sadly, it does not tell you up or down, relative to your position on the map's Z-axis. The location based nodes are supposed to be along the path you normally take while going through the MSQ's in the zones, and that seemed to be the case when I went through Dravanian Hinterlands. I'd suggest looking around instead of just tunnel visioning as you run and keep your compass ready.

Trying to play catchup, and I have all the quests required, but I am still missing a quest current. (Everything I'm seeing says Mourn in Passing (HQ MSQ), Some Bad News, Stolen Munitions, The Hunter Becomes the Kweh, and A Lesson in Humility) all showing complete in my Journal). Is there a way to fix that?
Edit: Having the same issue with Churning Mists zone.

I stood on the exact spot. There's nothing there at all.

They got updated.

Just use the compass from the old location, the new location should be somewhat close.

That wouldn't have helped in this case. I did find it after scouring the 'net again, though.

For anyone else that needs help with this: The aether current at 12x 19y is no longer on the mountain, it's in a cave underneath that general area. To get to it, you need to go the the Second Tier of Anex Tryne and cross the bridge into a large cavern leading to Sohm Al. You'll know your in the right cave if you pass a dragon corpse.
