Paladin emnity generation is terrible

I really don't understand what people's issues are with PLD. This is my second MMO (I started with Old Republic, and was a shitty tank, I'll admit) but I started this game as a GLD and even leveling to 50, I never had trouble holding aggro. WAR may establish enmity quicker, but the PLD abilities are there for generating good amounts of enmity. I personally prefer PLD to WAR, but to each their own. The only time I've had trouble keeping enmity was when I did my expert roulette with my atma sword and shield. That was a mistake, but I quickly fixed the issue. Like everyone else is saying, it comes down to gear and skill; skill being the most important. Gotta learn your rotations. I learned PLD from the start with minimal research on the job. If you know what enmity is, that's half the battle. then it's just a case of knowing your abilities.

there actually is a midnight pre-load feature for those who preorder the ff14+heavensward bundle, though all that does is download the application from the playstation store, the client will still need to be started to aquire the client side patches.

Flash, flash, flash, FLASH!

Shield lob -> GET IN THE MIDDLE OF THOSE THINGS -> Fight or Flight -> CoS -> FLASH -> FLASH -> FLASH -> FLASH -> FLASH...

It doesn't MATTER if you do damage or not if you have a NIN + BLM in your team because they'll be doing the damage themselves!

If you see your NIN's agro bar half full, that means he's doing a GREAT job. Same with BLM. But the most important thing is, you are still holding agro. And that's what makes you a Tank.

tl;dr Flash. Please. It doesn't hurt or embarrass you if you spam flash, its recommended actually.

I don't have issues holding threat, even from warriors doing their big 9 hit berserk rotation. The trick is to weave in your off gcd, and not do more than 1 buff between your typical rotation.

I also became heavily addicted to fracture. Especially when used with FoF. If you get comfortable enough switching between targets, you can do this on a large pack while occasionally using flash. Shield lob is a pile imo for getting threat (unless I could shield lob like Captain America). Your'e better off either pre-charging a halone or using flash on multiple mobs esp if you have to provoke/tank swap.

The only reason for even using shield lob is to get some initial threat, instead of face pulling. In some cases I don't bother, because the enemies are close enough together to just simply flash.

The funny thing about this thread is the opposite is true in regards to pld OT. Its really hard "not" to get threat while OT in sword oath. You gotta hold back so bad its not even funny. Thankfully they are adding a dps rotation in HW :D

are you sure the dps wernt just being impatient/jackasses and wanted to clear the trash asap? I mean if the blm is gonna do 2 - 3 flares at the outset of course you are going to have problem. It is also the dps' responsibility to assist with hate management.

My PLD gear is subpar to say the least atm and I can generate emnity without an issue.

Weave in the offgcds skill aswell.

I agree with most of the responses here. PLD enmity generation has no issues. The issue lies on the person playing.

What's with the sudden PLD complaints thread? Last thing I read, this is the Tank Role section, not the DPS Role section.

I suspect many of the people airing these complaints are career DPS who expect all classes to hit as hard as one another. PLD is you in a tin can with a shield as a bulwark. I don't know what they were expecting damage wise. It's okay though, most of these issues will see some partial solution in the changes coming to Heavensward.

At this juncture, I'd rather see how the expac changes things than complain about what is effectively an outdated package.

Won't change a thing. If you're not good at keeping hate now. You won't be good with keeping hate when heavensward comes out, unless SE changes the rate in which we gain hate [possible]. But until the release PLD is only getting damage options, which people that can't maintain hate won't be able to use as much if at all, and party buffs.

huh. i have no problem generating AOE threat against multiple targets against full dreadwyrm, and can easily hold hate against a single target in the same scenario...

this sounds like a personal problem.

Not to sound like too much of an ass, but you're not playing the job correctly if you lose hate that easily. Sure, WAR generates hate faster, but if you know what you're doing you shouldn't have trouble establishing and holding hate with PLD. I don't have any issues at all, and PLD was the first class I leveled when I started this game. No issues for me.

WARs opener is slower hate then a PLDs. It's not until their 6th GCD that they pull ahead.

I only played MRD to level 15 so I really don't know the ins and outs of it very well. I just figured that with Overpower generating hate and doing dmg at the same time would make hate generation faster compared to Flash. But like I said, I don't know really lol

Very large difference between MRD at 15 vs level 50 rotations.

You're actually correct in that at level 15 MRD with Overpower against dungeon mobs is going to generate much larger threat than GLD, but it's got nothing to do with an opener for a raid.

Interesting. When I'm playing paladin, I have no trouble at all keeping threat. When I'm playing WAR, I have no trouble at all keeping threat.
Protip: GIT GUD.

It was mentioned earlier in this thread, but I'll repeat it. If you just came back and have lower ilvl weapons, you're going to be tanking on hardmode for most group activity. I'm with my ATMA weapon (ilvl 102 ave) and as a WAR, I still have a little trouble sometimes with the DPS that brings the BOOM. Just hang in there till the expansion resets everything and you'll be fine.
