But there is no need for the tank to be at full hp, they have large hp pools, they can get hit and drop a little.

Once you work out how hard they get hit, its more efficient to use the time it takes for them to go from a safe HP value to 'not so safe' to dps which as a SCH can be ages thanks to fairys. The shorter the fight, the less healing etc is generally required.

I understand stoning the other party members in the absence of a WHM, but you would be better off adloing as a SCH, and keeping stone skin up on the tank (excl levi) is extremely inefficient.

That being said, I prefer to play as a full on healer instead of worrying about healing/dpsing as most healers do. It may not be as efficient as others, but it also means taking less chances that could potentially go badly in unfamiliar runs. I still throw out an aero from time to time for a little quick damage, or a shadow flare for the attack speed debuff, but overall, I just like to heal when I'm healing.....

I use Stoneskin when I feel like it. I usually use it to prebuff the party, or just the tank, and sometimes I use it in the middle of a fight. I just do what ever I feel like. Like if I throw on Adlo and it crits, I am damn well going to follow that up with a Stoneskin.

Fair play, at the end of day if you get your party through the content alive you are doing your job in the party.

I only DPS because I get bored at times and learnt this game with a bunch of elitist donkeys so some habits have stuck with me :)

It's not wasteful in that the Stoneskin won't get used up, because it will, but it's rarely the best use of your time. Especially for scholars, the result is pretty weak given how long it takes to cast and the amount of shielding you get.

There are lots of exceptions, most of which fall into the same realm as when WHM tend to use it. There's a few threads floating about on that topic.

This highlights the biggest problems I see with whitemages in this game.

Sometimes knowing when not to cast ANYTHING is the best option for your group.

If your bard has to play mana song, and noone died.
Your doing it wrong.

If you're a WHM commenting about the WHM use of stoneskin, this isn't the place to do it. SCH stoneskinning won't starve you of MP, it's just inefficient in a great many scenarios when compared to adloquium, unless it is used as a pre-battle buff.

So in Shiva Ex, the adds spawn, i turn on cleric stance, presence of mind and spam holy until only 2 of them are left standing. Nobody died because my healing partner did all the healing in that part of the fight, but i'm very low on mana. So the bard has to play mana song from the moment the adds are all dead until we get broken out of the ice.

You think i'm doing it wrong?

Those general statements never hold up.
