Flying ruined WoW, so yeah. Mostly positive feedback on the restriction.

Jokes on you I've been predicting the era of players not knowing how to tank for MONTHS now. It's going to be like launch tanks all over again.
Hell the reason why I mained tank classes was because I got sick of having to deal with poor tanks.
The expansion content all being locked behind the main story is gonna be the biggest scandal this game had since it was so shitty they took it down to redesign it.
to the loudest voices there (aka the raiders and hardcore wow players) that 'ruined' it for them and since most people paid attention to it then hey spread it around that the game was ruined by flying mounts, that idea got so popular that in the recent expansion they restricted flying movement just to get the opposite backlash from there loudmouth community but it didn't spread as much as the freely flying
its the same as when they brought out death night they said starting as lvl 55 would ruin the game and for a while thats all people thought.
using the same logic with ffxiv, when BcoB got a nerf people acted as it was the end of the game, when SCoB and FCoB got there echo/nerfs people acted like it was the end of the game, basically people think every small change will 'ruin' ffxiv like flying mounts 'ruined' wow

People entering the game on 3.0 release in general will be.....

I suspect the servers might blow up. LOL
would love to see Male Au Ra eats lalfells for breakfast.
It's been mentioned in the 2.55 patch notes, and will be mentioned again in the 3.0 patch notes, and the 3.1 patch notes.
The problem isn't people not keeping up with the community, the problem is people not reading the patch notes that are advertised with big pretty pictures on the launcher.
The patcher is something you get AFTER you buy the game. I'm tellin' you guys, people are gonna be real mad to find out they have to get to 50 and gear and do several instances before they get to tool around with the new stuff they added, including popular classes.
I only predict unability to join servers for about 3 days. Well atleast I won't be disappointed.
Whenever this gets discussed I feel like a lot of youse guys are disconnected from the emotion people would feel when they'd discover that they can't fool around with any of the expansion content they got by paying for a new expansion. You will completely deflate someone excited about the new stuff added when they realize they'll have to do a ton of stuff before they can even look at it, and if they come back or to this game because they wanna shoot guns or use a big sword they will balk at the idea of going through a ton of stuff to get there. "Yeah but it's not a metric ton, it's a short ton" is quibbling over a barrier's size when it's the presence of the barrier that's gonna kill momentum and be quite a rude surprise to new comers and lapsed olders.
I think you are projecting yourself personally rather than simply assuming what a new player would feel or even understand what is happening and why. If a new player bought the expansion they also too bought the base game, because without it they cannot even play the expansion. Knowing this, they either have no knowledge of what an expansion means or they bought it knowing full well they would have to play the base-game first and level up into the expansion.
Empathy isn't projection, but whatever dudes. Maybe I'm wrong. But I cannot foresee a way this doesn't get players very upset who haven't been in this FF bubble for as long as the forum has.
If you feel better calling what you are doing empathy, by all means (it's really not, but it's also not the subject at hand). If a new player understands that this is an expansion to an already existing game, than they should have no issue with leveling, completing the story and moving on to the expansion if they choose to buy it.
When I bought FFXI, I couldn't do the Zilart stuff right away (NA players did not get the game when it was only XI vanilla, we had only the bundle) and that didn't bum me out...There was plenty of stuff that kept my attention until then. Also I main'd DRG in XI and I couldn't play it right away, I had to get to 18 first, unlock my subjob, level another job to 15 so I could level my first job to 30 without being gimped, then do the DRG side quest to unlock it; only then could I play my DRG (I honestly did not level up ANY other job in XI until COR came out 3-4 years later as none of the other ones interested me). Not to mention leveling up in XI was a royal PAIN IN THE @$$, leveling up in XIV is a freakin' joke, in fact out of boredom until the expansion I've started leveling up my other jobs in this game, and it has taken me 4 days (5 hours a day) to level from 1-40 on my Ninja, and with the way N.Than Fates dropping exp like popcorn chicken at Popeye's I can probably get to 50 within 30 hours of playtime.
Main story line takes roughly 50-60 hours to complete from 2.0-2.56. So new players will have to deal with roughly 80-90 hours of catching up, at 5 hours a day (I assume is the average play time for most people), that is up to 18 days or 2 and a half weeks. The first stuff (besides leveling and jobs) starts to drop 2 weeks after the game launches...so they will only be a half a week behind assuming they play every day for 5 hours, oh wait Early Access, so they can actually be on par with the content release if they really try, if not they will only be slightly behind.
Why is everyone acting like base FFXIV ARR is some deadweight boring piece of gobbue dung you have to deal with before you get to the nice and shiny Heavensward? If new players had the ability to completely skip it most of them would do it just to be with their friends faster or they would be pushed to do it by community. I think that except the filler quests FFXIV has a nice story and I also believe that atleast half of the players here love Final Fantasy series especially for the story.
Expansion comes from word expand which doesn't mean to delete original content, but rather enlarge it so.. if people don't understand that, they should stop buying expansions. :D
Um, OK I'm gonna go out on a limb here...
See, a player who buys FFXIV as a NEW game...will have never done any of the content at all. It's ALL new to them.
Hell, with all the mixing of coerthas stuff from 2.4 onward, it might even be hard to tell where 2.0 ends and 3.0 begins without knowing about the 2.55 cutscene. It's all integrated with tons of foreshadowing.
i agree think its not gonna be as big as a problem as certain groups of people are making out.. heck if i hadnt played ff14 n brought the bundle id be excited to play a new game not go OH NO!!! cant access dark knight or heavensward right away?? not gonna bother playing this game then... really ARR is a beautiful game with tons to do majority of new players wont even care about stuff being locked behind HW expansion.. its not the 1st game to ever lock content behind somethin ._.
I expect a ton of bad tanks upon release. Mostly from people who don't like/want/know how to tank, but want to lvl a DRK because they just want to take "le epic screenshotz" with their new Au Ra (or their old miqo'te) holding their shiny new greatsword. I expect the other two classes/roles will have similar problems, but not to the degree of the DRK.
Aside from that, I expect just normal launch problems that are usually the result of too many people.
FFXI expansions added content for low lvls too , COP only asked for lvl 30 for Promyvions , and then 40 for the next zone and 50 for next one...
Heavenward is a expansion that focus on 50-60 content
New players will enjoy 2.0 because everything is new and fresh for them. However ppl returning that are already at 50 and stoped playing in 2.2-2.4 that will QQ the most , why im forced to do moogle, ramuh , Chrysalis , Shiva , Steps of faith and all the mundane quest in the middle.

I predict more ghost cats.
Umm but why?
It has already been mentioned several times and from different sources (se included) that you will need a level 50 class and have the 2.0x storyline complete to get access to the content of the expansion.
If the player does not read up on it or has avoiding doing the main storyline only they are to blame...
Cool they can compliment the already bad healers, tanks, and dps we got all over the NA servers.
Let people play the class they like and judge them on how good they are before doing all this lolDRK bullcrap before the job is even out. I'm sure there will be dark knights that are way better than half of the already existing paladins.
These responses are pretty funny, and sadly I'm sure many of them will be true regardless of how satirical, genuine or purposely idiotic they are...
But in all honesty, I actually look forward to the new life that should be brought in to lower populated worlds (like Goblin...) when the influx of new/returning players can't create on the big servers, and will take any amount of asinine forum whining as compensation for actually feeling like I'm in a world again, not a forgotten civilization. SCoB era destroyed Goblin. Static fights (many), people leaving from Hunts (nothing else to do; no static)...I watched a lot of friends switch servers or never come back because of one thing or another and it just hasn't been quite the same since.
I'm hoping to revitalize my FC as well with new/returning players and hopefully give people a reason to stick around this time :\
I never sad there weren't already bad players and I never said people shouldn't play what they want to play. DRK seems to be the most anticipated class (I could be wrong, but that's just the vibe I'm gettin as I browse the forums, reddit, and whatnot), even for people who don't normally tank, so it would follow that if many people do in fact pick it up, sure, there will be some people who do great, but there will also be some who don't do so good and I expect the latter to be the majority in the first week or so of release. Yeah, I get it, it's a new class and people need time to learn and I could end up being completely wrong, but this thread is literally about making predictions.
Ya i get what your saying, I just hate the job stigmas unless they REALLY are imbalanced. People rag on smn so hard even though my smn comes withing 50 dps of most melee ive seen on the server, and usually beats most black mages.
It seems every class is getting overhauled with new rotations, abilities, and gear so im sure we all gonna suck for the first month or so.
Could have sworn at NicoNico they said it would start at 52 and would be more than 5 new abilities for each job. There were a lot of Japanese viewers who were posting numbers (on the fly-by text) that was something more along the lines of 52 54 55 56 57 59 60. I have a feeling it will be somewhere between 6-8 abilities.
