Every Race has only 4 Faces.

I Agree with most points.. but this.. (bold letters)
Comical? manga/ff style maybe ;)
Im really glad about these cool Au Ra hairstyles.
I mean... eh... remember Seymour from FFX? ;) :

I've been critical over Au Ra for several things.
After playing around with the character creation, I can say that I have made an Au Ra face that I do like.
However:
- The horns on said face are extremely bulky and look...off with it. Can't change that without changing the face, so nice job there SE....ahem.
- All of the facial options look cute when I feel strongly that there should at least be some options that look fierce, and some that do not look like they belong with either Miqote or Hyur facial options. That said, the character I chose was pretty yet "rebellious"looking, though that still is no substitute or excuse for the lack of variety.
- Still not enjoying that shortness. 5'2 is the max height, really?
- Scale designs and colors need more options. Why this isn't already a thing, who knows.
- Body shape looks too similar to Miqote, though it does look a bit less skinny to me? Might just be proportions causing this illusion.
- Not liking the emotes. They are not mysterious or intimidating, and rival Miqote in cuteness
A few random good things:
- I didn't see any clipping with helmets, and there are a few Au Ra hairstyles that make me really want them
- The eye options are a nice touch
- Skin colors look fine
- The voices for the most part sound much more natural to me than many other races' voices
Still not feeling the urge to change. I put my Hyur in the creation to try on the new hairstyles and still liked her more than any of the Au Ras I made.
Good:
Male Au Ra dance is perf, please do not change
All Female are models
Bad:
Why can't I make a short male I want one the height of the females :(
Sexier than I thought. Muscle tone for me is just right (not too much) There could always be a slider for that, though. Can never go wrong with sliders.
The default Xaela Male that appears is really really nice looking
Some of the things I agree with, some not so much.
Like the scale colouring, I think it's fine as it is.
Tail colour, nahhh... Miqo'tes tail colour go by their hair colour.
Extra horns on some hairstyles bother me so much also! (more on females than males)
I'm happy we're able to affect if they have lot of scales on face or not.
Males hair is really funny. Too much flying caused them to go up so much? (or Cloud's gravity defying hair?)
Females /angry is RIDICULOUS. LOL
I just might change to Au'ra. Maybe.
They are shorter.

First is min height min chest.
Second is max height max chest.
after playing around some more i wish the male's tails were longer and went to their ankles. that said i'm also glad they are not locked into a horizontal position like the male miqote's tails.
I wasn't too fond of some of the /chuckle either some don't even sound like chuckles but like my character is dying from coughs, it's not /laugh though but after seeing their /angry I'm honestly frighten to think of my Au'Ra laughing. lol.
I agree with the horns and the face as I think a few options would of looked nice if they were separate and not tied. Horns on hairstyle... I don't rp so I am a little biased on that because I am not too affected beyond the point of if I like it or not.
I also agree with the males having a few hairstyles looking meh on them, it could be that they are pretty amazing. o-o I fell in love with the males dance though, It is too funny It's like the running man mixed into dancing. xD
I'd love to see the horns be their own category and not tied to your face option.
I'm getting increasingly concerned the more I read these XD
I've seen some Au'Ra's that I've liked at this point and I still need to play with the creator after work, but if the emotes are as awkward as they've been implied I might be switching back to kitty fairly quickly afterwards.
Also it kinda feels like their scale coverage is similar to miqo'te face markings. From what I remember a miqo with more facial markings is considered "older" it's hard to tell from just these screenshots but it kinda feels like Au'Ra's follow a similar pattern for their scales.
My opinion is that it's not that the emotes are awkward... the voices used are. One chuckle sounds like a cough, another does /angry like they are trying to scream someones ears off... maybe the horns made the Au'Ra race tone deaf. :P
But the emotes themselves look great on both genders to me.
Edit: I think the biggest issue for most people (myself included) is/will be that the horns are tied to the face options.. so you can't exactly pick the face you want without having your 'ears' change along with it.
I've learnt to deal with that at least (the edit). Fem Miqo's have a similar problem with face type and facial markings imo.
The face type I picked (two markings on each cheek, two markings on forehead) has a noticeable smile when idle which I adore. I don't really like the forehead markings at all but I'll take it over the markless face which doesn't have that natural idle smile to me.
As for the voice/emotes that's pretty much what I mean. Every race I fantasia'd (or made an alt) to so far had several voices that don't match the emotes and some voices that were a perfect fit to their respective emotes. If I can't find a fitting voice for me it's gonna kill my desire to personally play one. But I'll settle my final judgement in 3.0 when I actually fantasia and get to play around with all the emotes.
I pretty much agree with everything in this thread.
But...
http://www.mrinitialman.com/OddsEnds...ft=5&comp_in=2
Pretty much is why I will never play a female Au Ra. I would feel like some sort of deviant. It just looks and feels wrong ><
Overall, I love the females (didn't check out any of the males). I love the size, faces, skin color choices, eye choices and the hairstyles.
However, I'm extremely disappointed that the horns are tied to the faces, that there are no length sliders for the horns, and that you cannot control the amount of scales on the body.
Nice thread, for me the biggest problem is the color of scales and no customization on face/horns.
They said that Au Ra will be more customizable, and they aren't.
Yeah my biggest complaint, as others have said, is that the horn options are tied to the face options.
Please make these separate options.
This is just a benchmark not the real game after all so how do you know that this is how it will be when the expac is launched. For now it might be the horns are tied to the face but nobody knows if that's how it will be come June 19th. So I for one am not gonna worry about the horn face thing until then. Since this is basically just a test for PC users.
I always play male, but I'm still really annoyed with how all the female voices make them sound like they try their best to contain their feelings.
All female Au Ra laughters: "Hnng... hnng... HNNG teehee."
Then I started checking out the cheers, and after two "Hnng... Hnng...........Yah!", I quit lol.
So naive..
They have 2 months before expansion release and they will wave their magic wand and change whole race customization.
I have seen these "I will wait to see what happens, they have enough time to change it. It is not a final state." attitudes lots of time and it never changed. :)
They might change minor things here and there (colours, maybe alter hair appearances slightly, etc) but it's pretty much set in stone for the face/horns being linked. It's exactly like Miqo'te facial markings linked to the face type, just less prominent in comparison.
To go through the effort of linking them then going through the effort of unlinking them would be way too much of a hassle.
I was only able to muck around for a very short time this morning before running off to work, but I def agree on some points - the horns being tied to the face/head type especially. I only poked about the male creation, though, due to time (as I have interest in making a male Au Ra alt).
- I wanted a particular face-type, but the horns are very.... covering. He has no face from a side view. His face IS horns (the back and front horn selection). I wish the horns and face types were not tied together.
- I wish there was a back-facing horn set, like the females have, without forwards grown, also (like the males have) for the the exact reason above^ Sideview of that horn set is just.... it covers the face in it's entirety. I can't imagine what that must look like in some of the cutscenes. A bunch of horn just nodding. Or unable to see any expression at all, depending on the cutscene angle.
- Agreed - Dat dance >_> It's both amusing and.... well..... I automatically said, out loud, "...Did you seriously just do that? o_o". *Laughs self on floor and promptly gets the broomstick treatment from downstairs neighbor* (last part didn't happen, but you get the jist). Oh well, it's certainly... different.
- All the eyes look so severe. I get to choose from Angry, angry, angry and 'haven't slept in a month' (in ref to the last facetype with the droopy eyes). I tried to get the least angular eyeshape in the eye selction, but from a distance, he still looks like he's about to rip your face off for no apparent reason. I get that's a race thing - the angularness - but "-___-" would be their only expression o_O
- Also agree on the voices, I managed to find three I liked and couldn't choose easily. Normally it's only one that 'remotely' fits what I'm looking for, when I was creating my non-Au Ra alts. Ugh.... 4 or 6 (I believe it was). I can't decide...
My only complaint on the char generator in general is the backlighting... it's hard to see the skin tones (or even the facial features) unless I look at their back for a more accurate idea of the tone. I know it's always been like that, but it still bugged me xD;
At the FATE this weekend in Japan, Yoshi-P stated the Character Creation that came with the Benchmark would be the full release one "because they finished it up in time for the FATE."
I really hope we get at least some kind of official response addressing these issues. Screw the horns being tied with faces, it was a horrible idea.
I'm actually fine with their horns being limited. I wouldn't be against further customization, though. I'm pretty happy with the female I created. Although I noticed the female voices were pretty terrible too, lol.
Wish the expansion was sooner now...
As cool as the limbal ring option is, I feel if only a finite amount of selections were possible (as seems to be the case), it would have been better to let us choose the type and/or size of the horns instead.
Females:
They have some cute hairstyles, but IMHO too many of them (8/10 new Au Ra styles) have full bangs. >.<
Males:
The long ponytail they get is ten kinds of awesome and I want it for females and for male Miqo'te (minus the horns, of course) too! Pleeeaaase? -puppy eyes-
They would benefit from slightly larger irises so as to avoid the soulless staring look that another poster mentioned earlier in the thread.
I had read that the Au Ra would allow for greater customization than what we see with the other races... I really only see that in the skin color, eyes and hair styles. Everything else seems pretty on par with the other races in terms of customization options. On top of that the only difference between the two clans I noticed were skin color palette, -slightly- different voice options, and white/dark scale coloring. Pretty much identical in everything else.
I quite like the Au'ra but definitely agree that having the horns be separate from face selection would be ideal.

Face? What face? Au Ra don't need no stinkin' faces! xD
(I'm agreeing with you).
My poor Rush.... he'll have no face from the side if I stay with those horns...
My only issue with the female voices is that with some of the emotes (yes and no in particular) one of them just sounds so out of place from the rest of the voice. Like a complete difference in pitch.
I'm actually kind of surprised that having face and horns tied together ended up bothering me less than I thought it would. It's nice going through the picture thread and seeing no face or horn style left out. What actually bothers me more is the inability to change the color of the scales at all. At the very least I was expecting to be able to use the two colors each clan has for both male and female characters, but we can't even do that.
I am very disappointed in the females - they are far too cute and delicate looking for my tastes. The face is bland. They basically look like sweet young girls with an unfortunate skin condition:(
Shame the horns are attached to face. The horns are one of the defining features the Au Ra, it's a shame that it tied with face.
So now, if there's a face we like, but it has the horn we don't like (and vice versa) we'll pretty much have to compromise
No he did not. He said the very opposite.
-Yoshida, Famitsu Interview at PAX East.Quote:
Y: Similar to the character creation benchmark software that we released for A Realm Reborn, we'll also have character creation included in this benchmark with the Au Ra race's characters added. Since we're using up the last bit of time we have to add more features to the Au Ra, the number of selections might be a bit limited, but you can still save the data and use the appearances you create once the game is released. Once we have all of the options programmed, we plan to update the benchmark.
Make the horns separate from the face please. I love my Fem Roe, but after playing with the benchmark I may change. I really like the scales on the legs. Also change the small clothes.
Needs a muscle tone slider.
