And former 1.0 players should get Tanaka to serve as a personal foot massager.
Or legacy tattoos for all our characters instead of just the "survivors."
Or a lollipop.
I will settle for any of these things.

I think a new player that buys 2 games, ARR and Heavensward, in a pack for better price than buying first ARR and later Heavensward, would like to play ARR fully and later Heavensward, and enjoy while he does it. He will learn the class or classes and jobs and experience the story while enjoying it. Not seeing it like a chore he has to do ASAP.
People that ask ARR main story to be made quicker don't realise that.
Other thing is the new player will be able to catch up without a lot of difficulty. Leveling up to 50 is quicker now, dungeons and trials go faster with experienced people doing the roulettes, and once level 50 it is much quicker to get geared up. So even if you level while you enjoy you will eventually catch up in a reasonable time.
That quests that ask you to fetch things or ask around the place to NPCs etc. are a way to make you explore the different places too, and also go learning the lore. The class and job quests also have that type of activities, not just the main story. They serve also to have the sensation of advancing, not just arrive at a fight or dungeon, pass it easily or maybe get stuck for some time there, and immediately advance to another one.
I don't want to go punching things just because someone says so, like in other MMOs where I was constantly asking myself WHY did I had to kill this or that, or if I was just a serial murderer with too much free time (or when did I rest).
Considering how they're going to stagger content in Heavensward so that people can enjoy the story without any hurries, I think it's safe to assume that willing to finish the story ASAP doesn't sits very well with what Yoshida wants players to do here. And, as someone that enjoyed the background that ALL the quests gave me, I'm glad about it.
There's an excellent quest pre-Praetorium that gives you one of the reasons for the fetch quests. Do you remember the reasoning as to why we were bringing food to the soldiers in Northern Thanalan? Heck, even the cheese quests pre-Titan had a reasoning, if you read what they told you when you finished them (and even Y'shtola was complaining about it). I personally find that this enriches the overall experience of the story and makes it more believable.
These forums seem primarily full of people that love the story and lore, but then there are a lot of players that just don't care about hours of endless quests running back and forth when all they want to do is the non-story content, whether it's crafting, collecting gear or doing challenging raids. Most of these people also do not care about game forums. I for one, do not play an MMO for the story, if I wanted a story I'd read a book or play a single player RPG, and yet this MMO more than any other I have ever played, seems to punish me by giving me countless hours of content I just do not want to do and sadly can not avoid if I want to do anything else. Think of it like PVP, it's optional, if you don't like it you can skip it and still do everything else, the raids and primals are locked unless you do certain content first. All the OP is asking is that this game stop locking content behind hours and hours of content quite a lot of players just do not care for, make it optional, why is that such an unreasonable request?
`Alot of the newcomers need to do alot of boring stuff, before hitting 3.0 content" is so far only things that already playing FFXIV players are typing on this forum. OP, why do you think newcomers dont want to do the 2.0 quests? My friends are going to start playing this June when Heavensward hits the stores and while they are disappointed that they can not play certain jobs, they are hyped and pumped for the storyline and the already 10 jobs that are there for the taking. The only thing a newcomer should be bothered with is if the new race or jobs are gated behind 2.55. We now know the jobs are, but they can still play as a Au Ra character.
FFXIV has a slow start, but the storyline is worth it and Heavensward will probaly have the same amount of fetch quests, so skipping the currents ones is pointless. So please let the newcomers speak for themself and dont assume that all newcomers want to enter Ishgard instantly.
The quest the OP linked was narratively actually pretty significant. I caused us to touch base with a number of key figures in what would play out in 2.55. I very frequently find people completely miss things that are infact significant to the narrative cause the dialog is rushed past.
That's not to say there aren't generic fetch quests but I don't think they are as narratively unimportant as a lot of people seem to think.
As long as they give exp in 3.0 I don't see a problem. Infact it will probably be nice to hit Ishgard with a level or two under your belt so you can leap right into the new narrative without potentially having to slow a bit to accommodate leveling.
