"Laws of dramatic storytelling", pardon my french, ain't shit.
You're not wrong, of course, but it's not worth leaning on "this is how things happen because it always happens that way."

I dunno, never lead me wrong before.
Which bums me out, because it makes enjoying TV, movies, video games, comics, and a lot of books (though not as many as the other mediums) a lot more difficult when you can predict plot developments that happen halfway through the story at around the fifth chapter/episode.
Most of the time it's tropes or cliches, but the adherence to them (or, in a lot of more recent American media, the active need to subvert them to the point of creating new ones) is...taxing.
She's not actually dead, servant is actually good and was working with nanamo to expose the corruption in her hierarchy. Ppl all go wtf and raub still has only 1 arm, wears a tacky cloak to hide missing arm and goes like " i am the night.. The dark knight. " lolll
Doe the amount of lalas SE wanted to kill off in that 1 cutscene was a delight to see!
Yeah, I figured at a minimum we'd get treated to his saying 'Gods DAMN you! Gods DAMN you ALL to HELL!' a half dozen times, which is always fun, but seeing him go all Kill Bill was a nice touch.
Just wish we had a way to partake in the slaughter. Like maybe if at some point Ul 'dah gets a section where all the NPC's are bad people or otherwise dislike you, and you can just stroll through killing them on a wholesale basis like they were defenseless practice dummies, taking your revenge. Or maybe have certain NPC's added where if they say something accusatory or derogatory towards you, you can just kill them and they'd regenerate with a random appearance when you leave and return.
I'm just glad I won't have to listen to her whining in every patch anymore.
Let's take a moment to remember the first time we ever met her. https://twitter.com/TessaJalloh/stat...01424124170240
the 1.0 quest 'There Might Be Blood'.
They needed a strong enough reason to make the Warrior of Light go to Ishgard.
Saying, oh we got some primals over here.. wanna come kill em again sir? Would be junk. Someone had to die. It had to be a big enough scene to force the hero to move to Ishgard. So sorry, I cannot see them saying it was all a fake.. if they did, they'd need to come up with an amazing reason to why she's not dead.
All witnesses were silenced, and the public believes the Sultana has simply fallen ill. This suggests they either intend to force the Sultana to do their bidding like a good puppet (requiring her to live through the poisoning but perhaps be frail/incapable of resisting) or they may intend to replace her with a look alike. (which would not require her to survive, and is highly likely). Either could be used to move the player to action, and Raubahn to lead civil war for ul'dah's reclamation, ushering in a new age for the jewel of the desert in the image of Nanamo's dream.
She is likely very much dead. But we're dealing with a world in which death is just an inconvenience to be overcome, and a little hope never hurt anyone.
Another common trope in Final Fantasy is the need for Royal Blood to activate some form of super weapon, this would need her to still be around so that the monetarists could become supreme rulers and remain unchallenged by their enemies.
there's also the fact that the lady in waiting was a servant of lolorito. I remember the lore forums mentioning a dagger in his possession that could possible bring back the dead. If not that a poison that feigns death to give lolorito time to brainwash the sultana. ..
a friend and mine have a theory on this
we think that in this case the 'assassination' was planned with Nanamo, and Adaleji just jumped on to the plan due to the very easy way it could make him money, the reason the scions were framed was to just move them out of the way to help ul'dah's change from a sultanate (or monarchy) into a republic but the scions would of sniffed to far into what happened, and so would roughbahn, i think his anger was planned, and thats why ilbard told him he killed nanamo, this all follows under the rule of cinema no body no death, besides we have seen people come back from the grave *cough hildebrand cough* *louder cough neal dues darns and louisoix loud cough* so me and a friend think that nano has gone into hiding to give herself a normal life while ul'dah can change slowly, the reason we saw lolorito look upset or angry was because of a few things that didn't go to plan (adaleji's death)
I wholly believe she died, but I just think it's interesting, the ONLY two confirmations we have of it was the Adeleji, who simply glanced at her and went "yep, bros, she's dead" and Ilberd who said "I killed her", neither of them are exactly credible characters known for being truthful. We don't have a body. As for the scions dying, I have a feeling some, if not all survived, there's an npc in Ul'dah that remarks on "several arrests" the only one we actually saw was Raubahn in a cell, one man wouldn't have counted as "Several", and then there's the Sultansworn saying she's violently ill, the only decently credible npc in the game that remarks to her standing, says ill, not dead.
Yeah, I was thinking along the same lines.
Nanamo confides in you that she's going to step down and then she's "assassinated". Then we get Raubahn being goaded into "killing" Adaleji, who looks suspiciously like the Lalafell in the final scene, who definitely isn't dead. It just doesn't add up currently. It seems to very much be a case of "the plot thickening".
Yeah, found it now. Stupid mobile site.
Also, is it really Lolorito~?
I think Teledji would have foreseen Raubahn's reaction and it seems like he was deliberately goading him into attacking him. He just doesn't seem stupid enough to throw it all away considering how involved his plots have been.
On that note, does it kind of irk anyone else the way the story ends, what with Heavensward three months away? If we were going right to Ishgard, the necessity to move would seem more urgent and real. As it stands right now, we're able to move freely through Ul'Dah and Revenant's Toll even with the stigma of regicidal assassin over our heads. I just wish there was something that added gravity to the situation. It doesn't really feel like there were any consequences with us pawing outside the Gates of Judgement until Heavensward with Midgardsormr flapping beside us going, "Am I bugging you? Am I bugging you? Am I bugging you?"
Scions definitely aren't dead, they wouldn't kill one of them off without actually showing it. Not oh hey yeah he got crushed in the tunnel, you won't be seeing him again. I wouldn't be suprised to see a FFVI type story line where we travel the world to find our friends in hidding to open heavensward.
I guess I can take my shrine down now...
My shrine is staying up.

I dunno... Lolorito waltzing in, explaining the whole story, clearing WoL's name, and reinstating Raubahn to his old position without even a token trial for the MURDER of a syndicate member, all seems a little too pat. It pretty much makes a mockery of the drama at the end of ARR, in my opinion.
I'm holding out hope that there's SOMETHING interesting SE's keeping from us... Maybe the current Nanamo is an imposter of some kind?
I'd be really depressed if the whole ending of ARR was created purely as a shock tactic to get folks hyped for Heavensward, only to turn around and say, "Okay, now that we've got you hooked, back to the status-quo we go!"
I don't hate Nanamo - really I don't! - but I was so hoping for a bit of meaningful storytelling, with lasting consequences...
