This is where I went with it.

Have you played Perfect world international?
It has all that stuff and cat girls
Just don't make your character bust size too big, ppl will get pissy.
I have and honestly I like ffxiv character creation. We don't need pokemon professor Ivy looking characters.
The set sizes are part of the characters make up. You don't see miqo'te the size of a doll.
even if i'd love a miqo'te with j cup, such deep customization isn't always good.
I still remember the terrible super-deformed and mignon characters in aion <_<'
It doesn't have to be mi'qote with a J cup (besides, maybe someone wants the A cup). The system is already there. A variety of breast sizes already exist. The size is changed according to which face is selected. If only it was not tied to which face is chosen..
And it's not just about the breast people... This thread is about more character customization options. That is not just anatomy size but also different hair styles (4-8 max?), how the highlights are implemented (like you like how one highlight looks but you can't get the same high light with a different haircut) Could be make up or more things to set you apart like tattoos (yes mi'qote have them but again you can't do the combination you like. The face comes with a tattoo and you can't have a face of your choice with a tattoo of your choice.. it's either 1,2,3 or 4) that just is not enough.
Agreed, I'd also love to see more character customization options eventually! Especially hair. It's like when picking the hairstyles for hyur females, SE was thinking, "hmm, which hairstyles can we use that are the most utilitarian looking and the least cute?" >.<
I'd imagine that sliders would be fine for some things if they are only within a set range. For example, instead of choosing either shortest/short/average/tall/tallest for height, you have a slider bar that lets you pick any height that would fall between the shortest and tallest for that given race and gender. It'd be nice to have a similar option for breasts. But on some level I find it amusing and strangely fitting that Mi'qote -- known for being the "sexy" race that more males play as than females -- have a more boyish figure and only one bust option: small. xD It is actually one of the reasons I picked Hyur, they can be curvier.
I suggest just to start us off by not dividing the options by race/face. If we were able to go down a list of scars or hairstyles that didn't depend on race/face than things would be a bit better. I would wan't them to still add new options but that could at least be a start.
It would be cool if you could select a side of the face and choose what scar and tattoo you wanted from all options we currently have. Also, to be able to choose any hairstyle we wanted regardless of race.
well some people actually like playing ugly characters, gasp what a surprise.
Having played aion, and apb (and really a million other mmos) yeah i'd like to see better customization across the board. No i dont think this has to be exactly the same, but having seen plenty of people with the same hair color and style we should probably eventually get a barber shop and a few extra hairstyles/faces/accessories.
honestly you have have a game with 100 hair styles 100 colors 100 ways to highlight and 100 high light options and still will see a clone. Full customization takes up space. DCUO has full creative control on your characters outfit. (for tghe most part and that game turned out pretty small. I'm for more options but you also gonna consider space and it adding up quick. And sliders are not always a good thing. It can be hard to make a "pretty" character Some ppl can do it some can't.
100 hairstyles sounds so darn good to me :D
Champions Online and City Of Heros were much better examples, just saying.
Space is a consideration yes but keep this in mind, the space used in CO/COH by costume pieces was saved by not having armor/weapons to model.
In DCUO they took a hit to costume customization to add more gear for players ( a decision most people playing that genre didnt like)
in FFXIV gear is already seperate, we wouldnt be customizing the whole character from head to toe, just their physical features.
(Though i guess APB had/has it both ways so i dont know what to say)
I'm not sure how you would implement a DoH Barber/hairstylist?
constructive...
I might have imagined this but I remember hearing a barber shop for XIV was considered at one point or was going to be added in. More hair styles would really be appreciated, I don't think we'll ever see sliders because SE likes control too much :p But more options for color and style, I don't see why that can't be added in later on.
Well there's a few ways i would imagine but i think to shoehorn it into our system you could do this
1) divide the hairstyles into tiers so 1-50 stylists could do more things as they level up (We're gonna need more hairstyles for this to work obviously)
2) make each tier require certain crafting components
3) before starting it opens the character creation window for both you and your client, the client tells you what they want and you do it for them.
4) crafting minigame
5) voila.
6) make it doable on yourself or certain npcs (for leves) so you can level it
>oh but everyone will change their own hairstyle
Just like everyone crafts their own stuff right? :p
Yes more hairstyles badly!
I discussed this in a post on Zam before the official game even launched. If I was SE I'd add sliders but you could only size them down :p
More hair options/barbershop implemented would be fine, but I'm not entirely sure how well hats and the like are designed to work with hairstyles so this is something to take into account.
I am a woman and my cat is lovely!! How many men are playing females and want the bigger boobs and Bottom sizes?
I would have liked more hairstyles and more skin colours and voices, the seeker of the moon are lovely but their skin and hair colour choice didn't suit what i wanted my character to look like. As for body shape i would have liked to have been more curvy but not ridiculously out of proportion like i have seen on some other games.
I wanted the end of my tail too match my highlights.
I failed =( and would like a do-over.
Yea see... It can't be too difficult to give you all the color options of highlights/hair color for the tip of your tail. They are already available, the colors could just be enabled to use with things like tip of tail as well. Also more interesting markings for seeker of the sun instead of american football player lines... But that might be more difficult to do.
Make up (eye liner/some lip color) would be nice as well.... Men will probably not like that but hey, more options is nice ^^
All this is supposedly being limited by the PS3
But I really would like to be able to control the color of my armor x_x
I seen that done in AION where you can buy dyes from vendors or gather them or have them as special drops and dye your armor.
I saw an improved version of that in GW2, where you would unlock colors for your character and then be able to from the 'profile' page (or whatever page you see your armor etc) select each part of the armor (main part/base /secondary layer/third layer) and select the color which you have had to unlock prior to being able to use. (a whole lot of content there. quests, bosses, grinds to unlock colors)
Cosmetics in game really matter. I mean that's why SE spent so much time trying to make the game so beautiful and eye pleasing. :)
Can't say I've ever seen my exact same character running around, at best I might see someone with the same skin tone and of course the same hairstyle but meh maybe Hairstyle just isn't that important when you're fighting a tentacled beasty that spews out debilitating acid at you lol
As for sliders no thanks trying to make characters in games like Oblivion and Fallout3 were a huge pain in the rear because the characters where just so hard to get proportioned right when you had to worry about things like jaw lines, cheek depth and nose bridges.
And you can modify your "Bust" size in this game already I guess Butts shouldn't be that hard.
More hairstyles will indeed come.
Adjustable bust/hip? Please no, this is what makes MMOs look silly. You already can adjust them with certain face types though.
Height slider? Again this is what makes MMOs look silly, and exploitable if they have different hit boxes. (Tera proves why height types should just be left to a predefined selection.)
look , you can add options for more curves without getting into crazy land....the Miqote ladies are far less curvey than their Mithra counterparts. I think having a few body types for each race (slim, average, large) adds a great deal of variety to the otherwise "cloned" look of each race.
It does take some extra time to make sure weapons/armor clipping all fit properly. Even now some of the "smallest" size models end up having weapons that "float" off their hip and stuff.
There needs to be far more hairstyles, at least 50 more per gender.....and they need not all be race specific; there is no reason Hyur and Elezen girls could not sport the same doo, etc.
Anything to mix it up. As many have mentioned who play other mmo's the option as they are, are pretty poor in comparison to most modern character creation schemes.
Is it awful? No, but defiantly sub-par for a game of this caliber.
EDIT: anyone else irritated that we got A LOT of color choices for hair etc, but it was like 10 shades of the same 4 colors that differences are barley noticeable in game?
just askin'
More hairstyles, beards for male character's of course, more tattoos etc. There should be more options for creativity of your character down the road hopefully a barber/hairstlye shops be added.
Unfortunately, this is the fate of artists in every MMO. They release a small amount of options to begin, then the game requires constant care and attention to the "important" things such as battle and content, and our little hopes and dreams are crushed under them.
I would be astounded if this game ever sees any additional character creation options. I'm fairly certain it won't, and it's sad.
Okay, the people asking for J cups are kind of ridiculous and I can't take them seriously. e_e
I'm all for weight/bust/butt sliders as long as it remains proportionate and within the range of normal. D cup maximum...
Even if SE doesn't implement sliders (and I know they never will... ever see a fat or chubby FF character that wasn't meant to be disgusting in some way?), at the very VERY least I'd like some more hair options and facial details like war paint. More facial options would be nice, also... but I know that's asking too much with the PS3 limitations and all.
That's one of the main things that bother me: the fact that this game is restricted by the PS3.
If SE would've learned their lesson from XI and the PS2's limitations, we'd have so much more to play around with. In addition, the maps probably wouldn't be so bland and repeat...
I guess some people never learn from their mistakes. -sigh-
That's what I have been trying to say. There is no reason to shoot down the idea for more options in character creation window because of the fear that the proportions might be too big. They can always make the minimum and maximum something very realistic. The breast size already exist, I don't understand why it is tied to the face.
And to the person saying some people will make hips the same of a small car because they have never seen a real woman.. lol - I just got to say, plenty of 'real' women with hips the size of a small car, and double J boobs... Not everyone looks like a proportionality perfect model, but anyway thats real life and this is a game. Everyone can look proportionality perfect with a little variation.
Anyway - (If not sliders) as was mentioned few body type choices would be great. Petite, small, normal, athletic, thin, curvy etc
Maybe the next new crafting job could be "Cosmetic Surgeon" as i don't want to restart my character and if they did implement new character options it would not be fair for people who have already established themselves in the game. It would have to be a place you go to and get a new body option or hairstyle...trouble is what happens if i have my lips done and it botches!
On a serious note though makeup lipstick and eyeshadow and eyeliner would have been nice with nail polish etc.
