Blame Squeenix for why we all play as Miqo'te

Honestly, I'd probably play a Miqote... if they looked like cats. I can't get on board with the regular-human-wearing-ears-and-tail look that they are, though; they don't even have fur or a cat-like nose (at least Mithra had that). Au Ra aren't much better. They still look too human, but the scaly skin helps. I'll probably try them out at least.

I have a male Miqo'te. I play him because I like how he looks (maybe not how they have his digits curl up as if claws, or the way he runs). I don't care if there are a bajillion cat folks. At least I'm not yet another scantily-clad female Miqo'te or Hyur.

The furry look isn't overly popular in Japanese MMOs. Cute girls/boys with cat ears are. Thus, we get these miqo'te.
And as someone who doesn't care for the furry aesthetic, i'm cool with that.

I play a Lalafell... So do most of my friends, now that I think about it. Poor Miqo'te, so desperate to be popular *pats.* You'll be okay! In all seriousness, I love the male Miqo'te, but a lot of the time the females look super creepy to me... Something about their faces... Kinda noticed the same thing with female Lalafells too.

Not that I can talk, I made my male Lalafell so pink and fabulous that I often get mistaken for a female Lalafell to the point that I just stopped correcting people in dungeons since I won't see them again anyways. *Shrug.*

Oddly enough a lot of the RL women I know that play miqo'te dress more stripperiffic than i do.
To put it another way, one of these two female characters is played by a man, the other by a straight woman:

They're just catering to the jailbait/furry demographic. Says nothing about them except they want this game to sell lol. It does say a lot about the userbase though, especially since Au Ra cater to that same players. I mean, they're basically the same thing, they just have different ears.

I tried everything from Hyur to Lala and I found that I didn't like the movement animation of most species. Only Miq'ote animations seemed fine to me to this I add the fact that the only time I manage to make a good looking non Miq'ote character it was a female Highlander but the voice pool to choose from for a female Highlander weren't to my taste so I went Miq'ote instead since not only I liked the movements, I also manage to make a good looking character and to find a voice I liked. I'll at least give the Au Ra a try on the benchmark at least and might change for one depending on the same things that made me go for a Miq'ote, then again I got quite used to my character so I may not change at all since I would feel bad about it ^^; .

So... did no one bring up the census data that shows that Miqo'te are actually NOT the most common? The most common, actually, are Midlander Hyur males.

although the au ra female is a result of people preferring short and cutesy females based on data and feedback from players.

I just wanted a realistic tough female warrior without hulking out, so highlander suits me fine. I'd have like the option for a similarly athletic build for Au Ra, but I guess everyone else wants to play pretty princess dress up with their stick thin anime waifs. Ooooh well...:(

variety is nice but the amount of time it takes to design a new race is daunting enough. adding in completely different builds is a design nightmare for the armor teams.
There's a reason hyur are the only race with distinct racial body type differences between their subraces.

Edit: I was a miqote since sep 2013, went lala for a month around june 2014 then back to miqote, went elezen for these few past weeks, then landed on Hyur Highlander. I was determined to make a non-ugly Highlander male. I like looking at the highlander females walking about too.

Looking at the pie charts, this thread shouldn't be complaining about too many Miqo'tes. It should be complaining about too many Hyrus.

However, seeing as how Hyrus are effectively the Human race in this game, it shouldn't come as a surprise that it's the race that's most abundant. After all, all the people playing this game are human. Then there's of course the popularity over characters who are only slightly beastly and said features are that of a cat, so I'm not surprised to see them as second most popular.

By the end of the day though, we all chose the race we wanted to play as because we felt like it. I went with a female Miqo'te in this game because in pretty much every other game I play, I'm always maining as a human dude. I simply asked myself the following question:

"How often do I get to play as a cat girl? Let alone choose to?"

So I went with that, just to be different from my usual routine. Besides, I've always had a slight interest in cat folk.

Male Hyur Midlanders are only the most common out of all the race/gender/clans because that is the default option all the botters use when creating their characters, some get bored and will choose another race/gender but still with the default look. I'd say in my experience though, roughly 90% of bots are the same default male midlander.

I also think that Midlander Hyur is so common in database because of botters. If you look at how many botters/RMTs are there, you'll see that almost every single one is the default Hyur with THM class. And that's enough to fill up data about which race is played more.

I can say that every single DF roll I do there's at least one Miqo'te on the party. Sometimes the whole party but me is composed of Miqo'tes. I know that on theory Hyurs are everywhere, but on practice I can say that I see about 3 or 4 Hyurs for 8 - 12 Miqo'te.

I'll admit my experiences are similar, although I can't say exact numbers or percentages. Hyur definitely do not feel as common as the census implies. Lalafell also seem to far too common in my experience to only make up 14% of the population. Elezen also seem a fair bit rarer than Lalafell, despite having the same percentage. That said, I suppose a lot could change in the first quarter of 2015... :p

I chose Miqo'te because I was Mithra in FFXI from 2005 to Nov 2014.

Hyurs are obviously the best playable since gear is guaranteed to look good regardless, no tails or ear sheaths or being too small to even see details.

The master race overall is actually the Garlean race, they are Aryan in appearance and are technologically superior to us eorzean savages.

I know i will rub many of you wrong way, but those who I did rub for their almost insta any animal'esque race choice in any mmo I definitely think that ppl fantasy choices in mmo games is influenced VERY heavily with media they consumed in childhood. Typicaly western is very heavy animal charaterizatin in child books cartoons etc(major part imho in that plays disney and his animals), thats why 'furry' fetish, which i think is just pure zoofilia in disguise, is major choice for miqote, if there was catwoman race in all its beastiality I garuantee that would be major choice in for many, especialy americans and western europeans. SE is not to blame for miqote majority but something entirely different. Before you rage on me think very carefuly how your childhood media has influenced your thinking for fantasy/scifi, why do you make choices you make.

Besides, they're hardly furry... remove the ears and tail and you have a human.

Like for real, all hyurs are super ugly.... only highlanders have any sense of looking good. Nice, buff women... the men can also look ugly but at least they have their muscle tone going for them (not to mention the ones who are supposed to look older in appearance look fine).

Err, I actually hate cats lol. I'm troubled as to why people think the Miqo'tes are 'cute'. I won't argue their opinion, since it is their opinion afterall, but it still strikes me odd. Most Miqo'tes I've found where men too lol.

The problem is simple. The miqo'te just have the best figure for their height, most of the armor seems to be made for them and they are very anime-ish.

Also, look at all the cloth armor in this game, There is hardly any that shows figure (except the stupid amount of swim suits they throw at us)

Take for example this piece from aion, you don't have to have your character half naked to make a decent looking character.

And that is the problem, all the models look like teens, not adults (except maybe the roes and highlanders)
The miqo'te look the part the best, thats why there are so many of them.

They need to make more stuff that matches the races, take elezen for example....

I had to do 38 ranks of pvp for the swamgrace stuff just to make my elezen look elegant...

Personally I think Miq F emotes and idle poses are the worst in the game. And their eyes are disproportionate.
