I tend to call them pwnies. :3 When they don't have a horn, that is. If it has a horn, it's aunipornunicorn. Unless it's a lala riding it, in which case it's a punycorn.

Captain Planet > MLP. I went there, come at me bronies.
Ponies are awesome. I guess that makes us bronies. HAHAHAHAAH I'm so funny.
Actually, only the unicorn and Nightmare have horns (and Sleipnir, but he has two, different thing).
Personally I don't call them neither horse nor ponies, because as I am an horse trainer IRL, I am kind of a nazi when it comes to horses in videogames, and the elemental steeds have just too many wrong physical traits to be defined horses. I could spend a hour here talking of their joints, their split hooves (yes, like cows) and many other things. The EX-primal steeds and the PvP steeds are NOT horses nor ponies, and it kind of disappointed me that SE made it the lore for the PvP mounts to be Far Eastern horses, when the Uma kabutos showed something entirely different (and CORRECT) for how Far Eastern horses should be.
As of now, the only steed reasonably similar to a horse is Sleipnir, if you can ignore the horns and the buffed muscles. I struggle to, but until I am given a horse more similar to the Uma kabutos representations in-game, I'll stick to him.
A pony is not a baby horse, it is a horse below a certain height, specifically 14.2 hands at the withers. So for people who are smaller stature in the game, Lalas and small Miqo'te etc their horse will be scaled down to pony size. As for the horns I can only think of 2.5 that have horns and, at least on my server, those are not referred to as ponies. The pony term only applies to the horses, not the unicorns/Kirin (Kirin being the .5).
