Given that, like BRD vs. NIN, MCH has a different implied aesthetic, although different than the difference between NIN and BRD: Whereas NIN needed to be "secretive" and BRD "flamboyant/Artistic," MCH's is "tech savvy."

This thread once more shows that stats (and the job system in general) need a revamp. I am all for it!
Revamp to remove primary stats entirely.
All Secondary stats remain the same (including Piety because, let's face it, it's just a secondary stat that happens to be in the primary stat list).
Vitality becomes a secondary stat the same as Piety is currently treated; only grants extra max HP, and no longer adds physical defense.
Replacing what's lost:
- Role boosts account for bigger differences in damage dealt, damage taken, and healing potency
- Max HP/MP scaling by level (base regen still = % of max) + VIT/PIE bonuses and various role boosts (tanks/melee get increased hp, casters/healers get increased mp, bards get their increase split between hp/mp)
- Physical/Magical defense scaling by Physical/Magical defense ratings on equipment and tank role boost
- Attack power scaling by weapon power + DET and dps role boost
- Healing Potency scaling by weapon power + DET and healer role boost
Summoner and Scholar no longer need to deal with splitting their stats. Gear drops can still be separated by category (tank, melee dps, ranged dps, caster dps, healer) or by specific class/job but now any segregation beyond role is just for vanity, and accessories can be categorized as simply tank, dps, and healer, instead of splitting dps accessories into STR/DEX/INT varieties all the time. Caster gear that's all Spell Speed will still suck for SMN until they also revamp it, but if they're going to start anywhere it should at least be there.
Any abilities based on the primary stats should modify the role bonus instead. Ex: Cleric's Stance would change the healer role boost to the dps role boost. I...don't recall off-hand if any other abilities are based off the primary stats like that. Tank stances, for instance, wouldn't need to be adjusted.
There's no need to completely remove primary stats or add stuff like Agility and Charisma. If SE wants to revamp the stat system they can easily work with what they already have and instead make heavy changes to gear stats:
- New stats should be added that enhance specific job abilities or spells, that can appear on gear, like "Enhance the effect of Berserk" etc, etc.
- All gear should be meldable and convertable to materia, with very few exceptions (I'd say only relics).
- New materia types should be added to the game that give "Enhance job ability XXXX" traits. These should have a high chance of being obtained by converting gear that has the trait.
