This is actually bugging me so I'm going to expand a bit on my previous post.
While Bayohne didsay that it's not a screenshot contest he also said that both digital and physical artwork will be accepted. I don't personally believe that if someone draws a picture, scans it and then proceeds to plays paint by numbers in photoshop that it makes that art any more valuable as a gift or any more "digital" than if someone takes the time to plan out a screenshot (especially if they play FFXIV as a couple), bring it into photoshop and manipulate the image with the right typography and phrasing.
The end result of both mediums, regardless of how it started, would classify as digital art and I'd be highly irked if I saw anyone's screenshot turned v-day card/poster etc. entry rejected based on the fact it started as a screenshot. If you state you're going to accept digital art then it needs to encompass ALL digital art.
megalo response
No offense but art (whether digital or RL) is quite hard and strenuous compared to someone adding typography/editings pics. Now if you go to the great lengths of editing your pic for like, hours on end, I can see it falling more into the field of art. But if you're gonna clump someone's 5 mins photoshop edit to someone that most likely spent 3+ hours (usually way more) drawing/coloring/layering a digital picture, I'm gonna have to sorely disagree with you...
Alot of artists use digital art because it saves on supplies and having to scan in art work into their computers, and why does it make it any less valid than real art work? Also we've had two past screenshot contests, and this one is a way for other people's talents to shine through...and just not allow people to take kawaii screens again, cuz honestly anyone can do it if they try hard enough lol.
Mod also delete the post above this one, thought I could edit lol
Really... you don't think that someone's submission that might have started as a screenshot might not have been as strenuous... then I challenge you to go gather 5-10 people, configure every single outfit/emote for each player, find the perfect setting (location/time), line up the PERFECT screenshot, take it into photoshop (filters etc.) figure out the exact message and pick the perfect typography and put it all together.
CONT'D
That sort of effort to me could take just as much time as someone drawing/painting digitally. In that scenario the end result is still digital art. The time that it took to make that art is no more or less valuable regardless of if was screenshot based or hand drawn (via tablet).
It's not right to assume that someone who draws/paints digitally spends any more/less time then someone who's end artwork started out screenshot based. What looks like it might have taken 5 minutes in your eyes might not have and the person behind it might have tried really hard to create something special.
It really doesn't matter if you don't think someone whose art starts as a screenshot is less time/effort the plain fact is that the mods came on and said they WOULD accept digital art and technically those modified screenshots should still qualify whether you think they are worthy or not.
Hello ^^ I was just curious if I could still get a prize if I underwent a name change (and had already entered the contest)? Would I just resubmit the entry, or should I just wait?
Oh man...
So just a heads up I won a screenshot contest on the forums...here's my portfolio: http://imgur.com/a/mWpbz#1
Here's a few shots where I had to coordinate a bunch of people...NPCs no less as well: http://i.imgur.com/Wccm0yl.png

So yes I have experience doing all the thing you listed above ^ and what I can tell you is that yes, photoshop and editing are a bit hard to do at first. It takes awhile to learn and perfect it all...but once to get the hang of it, it becomes extremely easy to memorize and use actions/filters, things that are pre-loaded into PS that someone else made so that you can easily make your screenshot look cool.
The photos I took above took me an hour max, the hardest part actually coming up with an idea, or waiting on quote on quote 'perfect weather.
Now as I said in my earlier post, I agree that if you spend hours upon hours editing, your edited pic is a piece of art. But what I will say that as someone that has dabbled in all the fields you've stated, Digital/Real Life art is STILL the biggest challenge for me, and I give anyone that has the patience or mentality/talent to draw a huge thumbs up.
Ya know why? Because you are starting with a blank slate that YOU need to create by hand-drawing it. Now the same thing could be said with a screen in game, you are starting with a blank slate, but you have pre-rendered graphics helping your favor. You yourself don't have to come up with the models, just the idea.
As I stated in my post earlier, this particular contest is a way for people that DON'T have screenshot/photography talent show everyone their other talent, IE cooking/artistic abilities. If the mods did not allow digital art, they would look really mean to all the artists that have converted over to digital art...tablets costs normally between $100 to up in the thousands, so instead of those artists blowing $ on Real life supplies, they used it on their tablets/pcs because that is how THEY want to draw. Stop throwing digital artists under the bus just because you're mad that the mods won't accept your pre-rendered shot as an entry because you missed out on already awarded screenshot contests....give the rest of us a change to shine.
TL;DR:
I know wut I'm talking about art is hard and the mods don't want another SS contest so plz stop QQing kthx
It's not even remotely rage, nor is it QQing, and it's ridiculous that you think so. I've also won several screenshot contests, including the last one, so this to me is about fairness for everyone posting in that thread.
Again, you're putting emphasis on someone's time creating their art being more valuable than someone else's. Sorry but I've see a few of those images that you classify as digital art in the forums (the "blank slate" ones), and I thought "huh, that didn't take long in paint", however, I don't think they are any less deserving to participate/win.
My whole point was that the mods stated that they will be accepting digital art so in the spirit of fairness that should encompass ALL digital art regardless of how it started.
You accuse me of not seeing the other side but you yourself are so blinded by your own opinion that you refuse to see my points. If this was judged solely on your prejudice then the most recent entry for example, at the top of page 29, should be disqualified since it incorporates part of a screenshot and might not have taken as long to create as other digital art.
I have very clearly stated that I am aware this is not a screenshot contest, however, I don't believe that someone's submission that started out as a screenshot/uses parts of a screenshot should be discounted as the end result still qualifies as a type of digital art. That is my opinion whether you agree with it or not and since this is a discussion thread I am well within my rights to express it.
As I stated previously, no one persons time is more valuable then someone else's; if you don't agree with that that's your opinion and you're entitled to it. There is really no point in arguing with someone such as yourself who quite clearly refuses to be open minded to other views.
I also find it entertaining and a bit sad that in order to attempt to hammer your point home you bring your FC member (Talking Wind) to verbally attack me in this thread.
Does it say how many of the earrings they're giving away? I couldn't find that in the details.
^ I was wondering that too.
So everyone who does all the requirements.Quote:

Ouch. I notice some of the entries don't have the identifiers in the actual image. I just signed up today just to submit to the contest! It isn't a screenshot contest so this got me super excited. But I don't got a laptop anymore so I resorted to using the wii U of all things. Haha

Since the EU has not gotten a Valentione contest yet, does "the European" contest refer to the cooking contest that just opened up? If so, that is incredibly disappointing; I had been looking forward to sharing my sculpted work that I started in anticipation of the approaching EU contest. If no EU version of this contest was coming, I wish it had been stated outright so that no work had been started in vain, because the way this post is worded it sounds like an EU-specific version of this competition would be held.
Thank you, I did not see that comment! It must have drowned in the all the pictures I had to scroll by :/ I do think that not giving the different regions the same contest this time was a disappointing and confusing decision, though, since the other contests has had one for each.
I don't know about you all but I never got anything out of this contest: I submitted my participation but still nothing. Anyone got a prize out of this?
It is stated in the 'sticky' rules and disclaimer thread:
