SE will just let Summoner's go extinct in the expansion like Blizzard did with the Warlock. After the expansion the Summoner population will plummet to 0.3%.
Honestly just an acknowledgement that SMN has some issues that need to be resolved would be great. If nothing is fixed by 3.0 I expect the majority of the remaining SMN population will switch to Machinist and we'll be left with BLM as the only magic DPS...
What's the line that's always bleated, "less than 5% of the population has beat T5". The problems affecting Summoner affect a small portion of the population. The job isn't going extinct, and there won't be a mass exodus for SMN to BLM or Machinist.
You guys give me a lot of hope for SMN -.- i for one wont be switching to other job. All SMN need is a way to get full mp just like BLM without it being overpower. So give them Sublimation:Stores MP while reducing HP this way we have a way to get full MP while in battle and allow us to keep our DPS up.
Then fix some of our dots spell maybe lower resurrection cost due to the fact that if you do end up using it. You pretty much going to be useless due to low MP
TBH they can get rid of the pet part and give me contagion and few other spell and i enjoy SMN more :) "Joke btw" But just show you how useless pets are i not sure what more they can do to make them worth it in ffxiv.
Let's hope SMN get a update on this issue by a dev team before patch 2.5 part 2
The issue with comparing DRG to SMN is that DRG had AWFUL magic defense so in the final coil it was getting destroyed by magic unavoidable aoe's that no other job in the game was being affected by. Hence the need to buff its Magic Defense, i'm guessing since they was tweaking DRG at that point anyway they decided to balance it's DPS a bit more considering most bosses spin around a lot and DRG was being crippled by missing heavy thrust and impulse drive because of positioning.
SMN's issue is not a survivability or massive DPS drop off, it is just currently weaker than the others because it was the strongest and then all others have now been buffed so its the only unbuffed class (not including BRD which was nerfed for good reason, I accept SMN was nerfed when thunder was removed from cross class) plus they have to be doubly careful about SMN because any changes to Arcanist's skills will directly affect SCH and could then negatively affect WHM. So they are limited in what they can change right now and might not want to tweak the pets due to a potential new EGI coming in the expansion which would need re-tweaking in a few months time.
Finally SMN can complete all content in the game from now up to the expansion (as there is unlikely to be anything more difficult than final coil from now to expansion) and the gear is accessible to the point where it is unlikely to be overlooked by any other job for any content. DRG would still be excluded from final coil today if they didn't buff it due to its harsh mdef penalty it had. Buffs are needed but it is not essential to this period of time and post expansion it could be anyone's guess what the jobs are going to be like.
REAL Smn's are smart. they warp back to town, then switch to Blm. i leave the game, come back and people are STILL crying about smn. make me hate the job even more when all you see is /whine all day about the class. yes we all know the issues, if you have not figured it out by now, SE dont care...
The mass exodus from Summoner to Black Mage has already happened at high end game raiding and when Machinist comes out the Summoner population will go extinct. Shame to see SE let of the most iconic job in final fantasy history has been reduced to the worse DPS job in game even a White Mage does more damage then the Summoner when not healing.
*looks through patch 2.5 full notes*
The silence continues and will not be resolved until expansion........ =_=
There is actually word about Summoner you just need to use Google translate to find it.
- For job balance but I think that it varies greatly in "Ishugarudo of the Blue Sky", Do you have a job that is scheduled to be adjusted in the patch 2.5 series?
In particular, I think that's a Summoner who's often have been in care, but while you are doing the currently still adjusting. Originally Summoner to add a new action in the "Ishugarudo of the Blue Sky", it was going to adjust the MP fuel consumption around the Summoner including the additional action. Indeed to 3.0 is that the long period of time, we are carefully adjusted.
Now it with the approximate prospect and around each content, and we see or not too strong. Since we would also affect the carefully done unless 3.0 of design, we think that as soon as possible, but I would appreciate a little more for your time.

Yeah, ok, that's great and all, but do I have to look into every single Japanese article/interview to see this? Why do SMNs have to wait at least 3-5 months for a fix? There's just something wrong with this. All I wanted, at the least, was a piety increase and enkindle CD lower. Is that really so hard to ask for? I know MP won't solve everything but that's the very smallest thing I wanted to see if SE cares.
I'm bitching so what? I actually played this class through t10-13; I didn't down all the turns until a month ago, however I know how this class is in end-game content. My opinions are that this class is somewhat weak and needs to get some sort of change now. It shows in the hardcore/highly progressed community that there aren't many SMN left. I only know 4, including me, and 95% of all statics that have casters will be BLM. The class is dying and the only people who are playing it are ones who likes the class despite all these apparent flaws or can only play this class cause they can't play anything else. And I would fit into both those categories, more likely the latter.
My static-mates do really high dps and I compare my dps to them and to hardcore players since better results gives you more insight to what each classes are capable of doing. My static DRG and NIN does at least 500-550, even though they're at low ilvl 120, and my BRD sometimes does equal to how much I do even when playing songs, granted he's at around ilvl 126+. I do around 450-480 dps, but I have to try so damn hard to do that and I'm not even sure if that's good enough.
When I tried t10-12 on BLM, I didn't have to try or think so hard. It felt like I could relax more playing BLM. I'll probably just switch to BLM once I get a better weapon cause my static knows I'm decent at both caster classes. I'm pretty much done struggling with SMN; it impacted me more when I had to do progression with it...
I agree 100%
yes we know you rushed the Summoner job Yoshi-P, just admit there was a mistake and move on.
Hell we wouldnt need to have these threads if they would just come out on a public place and freaking say "that they have something planned" or " yes we are looking into it please look forward to it" instead of trying to push the problem under the rug.
I am starting to like them a little less everyday the longer they remain silent on the issue.
the Dev silence is making the problem worst and people are just going to keep being frustrated until something is said Officially to the public not just a few interviews available to a select audience.
Funny, Shizuna! You might go to BLM to have it a bit more relaxed while I want to play Summoner to have a bit more of a challenge! :P I agree with what you say. I used to be a BLM in first coil, a Summoner in second coil and again a BLM in Final Coil. Have also completed all the turns and Summoner just isn't able to bring the numbers in the same way other classes do. A lot of people don't understand what it feels like to master your class but to be outclassed greatly by those who master other classes equally well. I am absolutely disgusted with SE for not even saying a word about it.
The problem with the Summoner is a combination of content and Job design. Summoner lacks in key areas needed to be an effective DPS in challenging and hardcore end game content. Summoners lack in sustained damage, single target damage, bursts damage and AoE damage. DoT classes make great bubble healers but poor DPS. Towards the end of 2.4 Summoner's disappeared I'm on the Leviathan server and I don't see any Summoners by now SE has to realize that the job is inherently broken and should overhaul it.
I still see Summoners on Diabolos. They appear in Frontlines, DF T6/T7. People still play the job.
I am also on the Levi server and it is quite a scary feeling being the only Summoner sometimes in CT,ST,WoD etc.
Square Enix, Yoshi-P or whoever needs to open their freaking mouths already this is past the point of acceptable.
Coming from 1.0 Summoner was the Job I was looking forward to and to see the way they are treating the Job is not right, and pretty soon this behavior will move onto another job that they are to lazy to rework/rebalance. Im not looking forward to Heavenward if the New jobs will get too much spot like and the Jobs that have any sort or issues to be left behind.
(e.g WHM doesnt have a better way to regain MP solo, PLD is Too cool for School, SMN is everything, etc.)
Here are items I think that could use improvement. While some may affect scholar these are some major key points that drive me nuts.
-Bane - 3 target limit, why does it only go to 3 targets. BLM gets all, DRG gets all, wait all classes have multiple AoE's that hit all targets.
-Tri-Disaster - Does anyone use this? Needs to be gutted or tweaked. Maybe complete overhaul which would make SMN's potentially more viable.
-Fester - Amazing ability but would be nice if it had a contagion like effect. Hits for potency of 100 for each effect and adds an additional 5 seconds per each effect on target.
(Or maybe a flat 10 seconds to each effect on target)
These are just some basic thoughts even though I think the Fester idea is brilliant as it doesn't effect SCH and helps with mana issues of reapplying dots. I love using SMN but like everyone else I find it easier to use BLM in dungeons. So I use SMN for all my maps including solo'ing Peiste and leave BLM to dungeons.
I leave my White Mage for dungeons which is easier than the Summoner. Something is obviously broken with a DPS job when its easier to go healer.
And yet still no dev response...
I hardly see any smn at all anymore. I guess they dont care ; ;
After putting in much thought into this decision. I've decided to go ninja. So good job Dev team, you win. I hope the victory is satisfying.

I'm sure the job balance will be greatly adjusted when Heavensward is released, but do you have any jobs that you plan to adjust during the patch 2.5 series?
Y: In particular, I think we need to consider Summoner, but we're still working on the adjustments. Originally, we were planning to add new actions to Summoner with Heavensward to adjust MP consumption. However, since 3.0 is still a ways off, we're thinking about other careful adjustments. As we release each piece of content we see which jobs are too strong or not strong enough. We're also focusing on carefully adjusting things for 3.0, so we'd like to make adjustments as soon as possible, but please wait for a bit longer.
Can I add remove stun and silence from pets abilities on that list? Titan's fine but Ifrit and Selene have no real use for it.
Thanks for this. I wish our forum team understood that we don't have access to Japanese relate magazine and article so we need someone to translate and post this information to help claim the masses.
Wait. So we're getting a buff....???
With 2.4 i changed my main job from smn to nin. I hope SE fix soon smn for the people that are playing it. Not only mana issue, they still needs to fix spell speed on smn, it only affects to garuda... titan and ifrit are affected by skill speed.
I hope that with 3.0 smn starts to change from a dot job with a weak pet to a pet job only.
As soon as we lost thunder..it went all downhill from there.
I think Miasma II should count towards fester now. Since Ninja's have an attack for 500 Potency. 400 petency on SMN and can use it like every 15 seconds should that would be kind of broken lol
I would love if bane can hit all target within Range but you will never see melee in dungeons anymore. With all dots up and if the SMN is geared, it will tick for about 550-700 every 3 ticks which is a lot of damage
Jsut like someone said SMN would either Top or below. I dont see a middle ground for them. If the Devs can do that than Kudos to them
The middle ground is very easy to achieve. Small buffs to MP regen and minor damage buffs would bring them into line.
You can accomplish both of these things with one change:
Give Fester a 50% chance to allow your next energy drain to cost no aetherflow.
This fixes MP regen issues while also giving them a sight damage buff from additional energy drains.
Easy peasy.
You have to look at the potency of both Ruin spells and give summoners Thunder back.
Make Tri-Disaster usefyul as an aoe and dont limit its potential as it has been thus far.
