New Race Announced! The Au Ra

They look like the Qunari a little bit from Dragon Age, I can't say this is a bad thing imo.

I still have 2 of them free ones, my legacy one and the 30 day sub one.

Hopefully we'll have a choice of horns. So far the patchy scales are a turn off.they looked diseased

Their looks are pretty disappointing honestly. Inevitable clipping aside, I'm kind of annoyed they chose to make the difference in sexes so...much of the same thing we always see. I was hoping the Au Ra would be a more bestial race overall. Yet here we are, with females who seem to be a cross between a Midlander Hyur and Elezen, almost showing no draconian features. (I mean those horns are barely there, and the ears are pretty delicate, easily unnoticed with headgear or a hairstyle change.) And the males yet again with broad builds, much larger than their extremely petite counterparts, and slightly more bestial. But barely even. Coming from a fantasy game, it would have been so much more interesting, so much more fun to see them step away from the need to keep them "just human enough" to treat as an enlightened race (as the game calls our current playable races). When planning was it thought that anything else would be unlikable ? (cont.)

To be honest that one April Fools Joke is almost more appealing.

Not to say they aren't both beautiful, but this kind of sexual dimorphism is just so obnoxious after awhile. They managed to start off pretty okay with the Elezen, the Roegadyn, and the Lalafell, so I kind of had high hopes we'd have an even more varied playable race. A group that was a little more standout and high fantasy. I do hope that when the character creation is accessible, that we can have a little more freedom with our character's looks. Hopefully there are options aside from what was shown. Perhaps they're like our current classes, like how we have Midlanders and Highlanders, so we'll actually see more later.

How tall are the Au'Ra ladies compared to existing races? I told myself I would change from cat for anything except something close to Padjal.

They look to be on par height wise with Miqote, and the males on par with Highlander Hyurs. Frankly, this race is the closest thing to Padjal players will see and is probably why they went the horns route because I've seen many who have been interested in Padjal, but lore-wise that's impossible.

And just because they're from Othard now doesn't mean that the race did not originate in Ishgard with Shiva and Dragons, that was like a thousand years ago and with the predjudice who wouldn't hop the ocean?

Odin obtained his sword from an Au'ra. Odin is much older than Shiva.

Honestly...I would have preferred having different body types before a new race. :/

Just because Odin is older than Shiva doesn't mean that he has had his sword that long.

The difference in height between the sexes is veryvery jarring. Like they aren't even the same races at 1st glance.

Not a fan of the male's look thus far and the female seems like it'll have very girly animations ala midland females.

Guess we'll have to wait and see

Hrm. I have mixed feelings. On one hand, both males and females look quite good. On the other hand, I really dislike the large difference between the genders. It is like one person wanted to do a race with cool tough guys, and another person wanted to do a race with petite elegant girls, but they could only do one race so they combined them. :(

But I won't lie, I will definitely consider switching to one of the females. I love my Midlander, but it'd be nice to play something more exotic. It is hard to tell their height without any basis for comparison, but so far they look quite petite and lovely.

They also have height choices. I picked the tallest Miqote and notice I am a lot bigger then people who picked the shorter ones.

I would like them more if the males weren't so much taller than the women. What on earth were they thinking?

For anyone interested on Sargatanas, I've started a fan LS for Au Ra future "Au Ra only LS".

Maybe what we're seeing in the previews are males at max height and females at min height? I sort of doubt it, but it -is- a possibility.

I don't mind the look of either but the size of those horns on the males. Meh. I'll stick with my current race.

I wonder if they are going to be like male miqotes in the beta where they were basically everywhere. Bunch of people will change to them when they first come out then get bored and want to change back to their old race. SE makes more money on fantasias lol

In the beta? Lol Miqotes are everywhere ingame, I can't walk 5 steps through any City-State without seeing around 10 of them. Should rename this to Miqote Fantasy XIV, with all of them out there.

I dont like how the horns are coming from the sides of the head where the ears would be. Horns are typically closer to the top of the head above the ears. Do they have ear holes in their horns?

Also... You know all those cutscenes where Yugiri was outside and her "horns" were flopping around in the wind like bunny ears? Ya hopefully SE gets that fixed now that we know for sure they are supposed to be horns under that hood.

Yea I noticed this too but there was at least like 50% more Miqotes in the beta.

Oh, right... Yugiri... Now I know why I might not change race... If I thought ear pockets on Miqo'te were bad horn pockets are going to be worse...
