The Unfortunate Nexus: PLDs Who Forgot to Soulglaze One or the Other

I just made this mistake. I have 1.4k Light on my sword.

I understand that upgrading have different item slots on the list but the soulglazing, I didn't notice it.

Call me stupid but I've done as many Light runs as every other class who only need one weapon to enhance...

To those saying there's no item in the Zodiac glass and that we should notice it... Paladin is the only class that has two relic items that should appear in that glass so it's not as if we can compare it with another class.

As a reminder to everyone about it being "unfair" if paladin don't have to farm the items at the same time, the relic of paladins has its stats "split". For example, Gae Bolg (one item) has STR 31 and VIT 35 while Curtana has STR 22 Vit 25 and Holy Shield has STR 9 VIT 10 so yes, Paladin do need -TWO- items to get a "full" relic. Curtana and Holy Shield work as one. It would make more sense to split the 2000 Light between them instead of both requiring 2000 Light.

I don't have the novus on my PLD but i feel really sorry for that, for we know the nexus step can be a real pain. I hope for a change, doing 4000 lights instead of 2000 is ridiculous, for a small mistake.

Maybe the zodiac glass should, by default, show two slots for paladin relic. If the Holy Shield is not upgraded, then the zodiac glass should show a notice below Curtana and state "Your Holy Shield has not been soulglazed" or something similar.

I'll keep farming those 2000 Lights but I hope something that helps other paladins could be done. It's easy to miss because no other class has two relics that work as one item.

I still have to confirm from a fellow paladin but... is it true that Curtana and Holy Shield have to both be Nexus to get Excalibur and Aegis? That makes it very different from the other zodiac quests except Atma. While it is the fault of the paladin for forgetting something like this, doesn't it also show a badly handled relic quest line? If Curtana and Holy Shield are supposed to be upgraded TOGETHER to get to the end, then just state it from the beginning instead of making quests that upgrade them separately.

Because at this point, having Curtana and Holy Shield which only have stats equal to ONE relic means you have to farm a total of 4000 Lights unlike other classes, just to get the final zodiac items.

But if the amount of light was split between the two relic then the PLD only need to farm 1000 light to max out both sword and shield.

This is primarily an issue with not paying enough attention. I understand your pain but ask yourself "who's fault is it for forgetting or not paying attention?"

Someone suggested in the first few pages that the Light would be split between the two items and only one item will gain Light when equipped. Curtana will take precedence because it is the main hand. Example: They get 1500 and 500 respectively, Curtana's will count as 1/1500 after a FATE while Holy Shield will be 0/500.

I'm not griping about the amount of light that I have to get. I'm griping about the fact that, while previous stages of Curtana and Holy Shield allowed us to obtain them separately, the Excalibur and Aegis stage requires -BOTH- to be Nexus. There is no indication in previous relic stages that indicate this, as most of the stages allowed us to obtain them separately. If the latest stage of relic is still Nexus, then I have no problem because I can get one Nexus at a time and no indication of ever needing both Nexus at once to get to the next stage is understandable. However, with the implementation of Excalibur and Aegis, was it ever indicated in any of the Paladin relic quests that you need to upgrade both weapon and shield to eventually get the latest stage?

Just to add my own experience upon this step:

This step is misleading about the soul gaze. Let me explain :
- In the previous step as for further game element, the shield & sword cost are always divided. For instance in the previous zodiac step, you had to buy 2 scroll:
> one for the shield for 1 special ink
> one for the sword for 2 special ink
(3 for any other weapons).

- It's said that you can soulgazes only ONE weapon at a time.

So yes, I saw the Holy Shield option however the logic would have been that the sword requires only 1500 light & the shield 500.

So no for everyone calling paladin stupid for not selecting another soul gazing option when it's clearly written one at a time, this step is misleading as hell.

Whats going on with all these weird necros recently? Are people so bored by bluemage and eureka that they're now digging deep, deep into the forums to bring up old sekletons?

And btw: I've mained a paladin since 2.0, ergo I did that quest when it was current content and I have to say: While the step might have not been super clear, it was easy enough to figure it out and pay just a tiny bit attention. I managed to do that - special because previous relic-steps had sort of taught me that my shield needed special attention (like the whole "do some of this for the sword and some of this for the shield")

To give a proper answer despite the nasty question:
I found this thread while searching for an answer about the shield & sword using Google (2nd link) & I thought about giving my personal experience with this particular step. There is absolutly no need to be as aggressive as you are.

I played since the 2.0 but had a 5 years break & decided to get the zodiac weapon as a glam. However the quest itself is still available as the "problem" with the soul gazing selection, meaning the subject itself is not outdated. I only did 2/3 dungeons before realizing the problem so to me personaly ,there is no harm. However I can see, giving the logic in all the others steps & relics the problem with this particular step & gave a simple feedback.

I don't see how relevant is your answer and we could throw the question back at you as I'm wondering what leads you to answer in such a way to something you consider outdated ?
